Welcome one and all to the first annual Amateur Lego Olympics!

First, DO NOT make any new threads please! This group will be getting messy enough without extra threads floating around. ONLY admins can make new threads.

here's a brief rundown of how things work.

First, sign up: Go to the sign up thread and simply copy and paste a link to your homepage as your comment. This will let us know that you are signing up and are ready to throw down. Please no conversation in the sign up thread (it will be deleted). You MUST have a MOCpages account to play.

Rounds: The ALO [Amateur Lego Olympics] are a single elimination tournament where players are pitted against one another in different categories. Round one will be what we refer to as the "free for all" round. In this round you will be able to choose a category from the ones we have provided and build your entry for that category (categories will be posted on the first day of round 1). ALL entries MUST be NEW and UNIQUE creations! NO using old mocs. EVERYTHING must be built NEW for each round. The ONLY exception to this is Figs. Your entries will be judged on a 10 point system. ONLY the top 32 players will go on to round two. Round two will begin the one on one matches. During the one on one matches, the judges will vote on which player will advance.there will be six judges per match (you will then need 4 out of 6 votes to advance). We will continue the elimination process until we have a single ALO Grand Champion!

Dates:as of right now the competition has not started yet but I am hoping that we will begin about Feb-10 or somewhere around there
Judges:Your judges are Luke the Swift, Matthew Oh,Jensen Anderson, Topher Adams, kaeleb appleyard,Isaac Cremer!,and last but not least Marcus Schultz

Yes there WILL be a price for the winner. the Prize will be awarded to the top player

LDD: While LDD is a great tool for design it will not be allowed in this contest. This contest is for real LEGO only. LDD creations will not be accepted as entries. Please feel free of course to use LDD as a design tool to help you in the creative process but your entry must be physically built in REAL brick.

Photoshop: You may use photoshop and other types of applications for BASIC clean up work on your pics. Using photoshop to enhance your build is not allowed. This is a building contest, not a computer graphics contest.

Brickarms: This is NOT a purist contest so feel free to use Brickarms, Brickforge, custom stickers or whatever other aftermarket pieces you wish.

If I’ve missed anything or you are confused about something… first, REREAD everything above. If your question is still not answered, there is a “questions” thread where your question can be addressed.

All that's left is for you to tell your friends and to get you and them on over and sign up! Good luck to everyone and let the games begin!

I don't know. What I know is that I am probably going to FAIL this contest. Like I FAILED every other contest I entered (except the 2013 House Contest). It's true: I never get higher than last place in all contests. This is mainly because I RUSH my entry.

I know, I have a similar problem, feeling like I HAVE to get it done. I've found that sometimes it helps to start way ahead of the due date or when you want to have it done. Then just take your time and build when you want, and if you start feeling you need to rush, step back for a couple of hours or maybe even days, then when you have some spare time just do a little, instead of doing a bunch at once. Hope this helps:)

Thanks. Are you in the LotR LegoAthlon? I'm still B-U-I-L-Ding and trying to expand my entry.

I have a question, can we build a new moc but have an old one inserted into the new moc like a diorama?

Um...you would have to wait and see if one of the categories even matched your old builds and you still would have ti modifie the build a little bit to make it qualifie =)

Since we hardly have over 32 members as it is, and 7 of them being judges, wouldn't it make sense to skip the first round? Just a thought. This comment won't matter if we get more people though.

Perhaps. I think we only have five judges though and we are hoping to get some more people.

I don't, I just used them for large models like http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/352524 and http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/351448

P.S. Don't tease me Jensen.

I'm simply echoing what others have said, I Me. You don't even know the categories yet, so why worry about brick totals? It could be something that only requires the bricks you currently have. Don't automatically count yourself out, man.

I actually meant for round 1. ;) You know, the free-for-all round.

um.. not sure what your talking about you will have to make a build that is within the six category's so your build might not match with one of them =)

Lol the one thing I can't do XD

I said that you could turn the category into a big battle. Not that you have to. I think we may have put a size limit anyway.

Sounds good, can't wait to see what spare categories you lot come up with. I'm sure they'll be great.

I am really looking forward to what you guys will come up with. I have a hint for you, most of the categories involve something called Lego ;)

haha ya we don't have a size limit so you could something small or big =)
