Great LEGO Sets

There are a lot of good LEGO sets out there, but share some of your favorites here (even if you don't own it). In this thread you can also talk about what sets to get if you are trying to decide what one(s) to get. Feel free to put your own review of LEGO sets here as well.

I really like the Mines of Moria set. It has really useful pieces. As a set itself, it has great play functions and awesome details throughout the set that make it look somewhat in shambles. The minifigures are great too!

The 2013 Republic Gunship!

Parts:
It's loaded with amazing elements, and has a great figures!
It also includes new pieces!

Functions:
*Moving turrets
*Flickr-Fire missels
*Opening crew compartment doors
*Opening ammunitions doors
*Deployable speeder bike
*Cool wing thing cockpits

I got this set for my birthday and was completely impressed!
It was challenging, but not annoying as far as white on white goes.
It broke it down into PERFECT steps, and was definitely fun to build!
(Especially if your watching Star Wars;)

That is a great set! I plan on buying it when I go back to the States in a few weeks.

I really like Orthanc and the Black Gate. The Black Gate has a lot of nice pieces and the minifigs are just boss! Orthanc is...well Orthanc and what's not to love about huge towers with spikes on top? =P

8110:
Need I say anything more? Tons of functis, motorized, amazing looks, massive size (around 25x70), and great pieces (if you can bear to take it apart)
79109:
Amazing detail, due to the excess of small detail pieces. This means that the size isn't that big, but it has a lot of useful pieces and looks excellent. Plenty of playability, including two exploding walls, a sign that folds down to reveal a cannon, detailed interiors (for the sheriff's office anyway), a sign and light fixture that can fall down, and an opening safe. In terms of pieces it has lots of tan, dark tan, and dark green, as well as 18 light bley masonry bricks, 4 dark tan masonry bricks, two dynamite sticks, plenty of gold/silver/dollar bills, white half arches, and more.

I actually agree with that. I don't really like Star Wars, but that set is pretty amazing. Too expensive though, I don't really get huge sets like that.

I'll leave out the question of how you can possibly lose a huge piece like that.

Now I just use the set for parts, which it's great for. Especially the three leaf plants and tan/dark tan 2x2 tiles are in great abundance.

Kits one through six: Excellent sets, got me out of potentially experiencing a Dark Age, and got me customizing, as well as me beginning to experience the online LEGO fanon.

Kits ten through twelve: It could just be bad timing that I got these when I was reintroduced to BIONICLE, but I've not been able to do much with them.

Awesome!

Yeah, I like the sets as well, they were the ones that got me to actually mix my collection and build MOCs. Before that I NEVER took apart a set (unless I wanted to crash it and build it again). My first "real" MOC was my I-MEL starfighter built from the pieces that were found in kits 1-3. Now I build a set and then take it apart to do MOCS XD

Ah okay. Probably timing. I'll certainly find uses for the pieces because I build in a wide variety of themes except for anything Bionicle. That's because I don't have a single Hero Factory or bionicle set. I don't want to start over by trying to collect a bunch of those kinds of sets.

If you've read Wertman 8's reviews, he has a "MOCing Value" with his ideas of how good the sets are for pieces. My only disagreement with him is on Dragon Bolt, which has more Technic-oriented pieces good for custom builds.

Eh, normal beams aren't really as useful as half-width beams (plus I already have tons of technic :P)

Breez is decent. She has some nice armor/equipment in trans green and silver, but not very useful for Technic parts (half-width or otherwise.) The other two have some nice Technic parts though. I only wanted Breez for the helmet.

I don't really need technic, other than for those new 90* connectors with the pin hole in the center and the two axles. (I already have a lot of Bionicle Titans and several large technic sets - see my brickset account)

That's what happened with my X-Wing. (from the 2004 Dagobah set) mom did something wrong when building it, so the cockpit wouldn't close with Luke in it, and the next day (or so, my memory is fuzzy for 9 years ago :P ) I remember I was making escape pods with the white white sloped pieces. (The ones from the nose and sides of the cockpit)

A few of my favorites:
Creator Rescue Robot, for its interesting pieces and fun alternate builds.
Helm's Deep. I don't own it, but it looks amazing.
Tower of Orthanc. Again, I don't own it, but it looks sick!
Mirkwood Elf Army. I'm picking it up next week, along with a Goku figure off Amazon. I apologize for bringing my obsession with Japanese fighting manga to MOCpages. XD
Scorpio, the HF set from about a year ago. It has some pretty sweet parts, and comes with an abundance of armor AND Technic doodads.
Last, but not least, my first three Bionicle sets. Lewa Nuva was great, I got it as a gift from a friend. It stands as my favorite pre-2005 Bio set. Vakama Metru, for his cool mask and interesting weapon, is pretty sweet. And, of course, my favorite Bio set post-2005,(possibly ever)... Visorak Keelerak. All of the Visorak sets were great for playability and interesting aesthetics, but the Keelerak was my favorite, mainly because it's green, (petty, I know :P) but also because of its pincers and the fact that its legs were the most satisfying to me. I lost my entire collection of Visorak a few years ago, but I recently picked Keelerak up off Ebay, for nostalgia's sake. It remains the only Bio set I still have built. <3
