Hey All,

I am attempting to create a formula that will help individuals to predict lego piece count based on weight of project. This will help members come up with a piece count on MOCs or MODs once they are done with a project but haven't kept count on individual pieces. I know right now people just take an educated guess, but my formula will provide actual certainty (with hopefully small margins of error). All I need from members is an actual piece count and weight (in grams) of either actual lego models or MOCs where there is an actual piece count, not an estimation (I want things to be accurate). Any data would be greatly appreciated!!

I'll give you an advice. If you really want to make that real, you should answer for the weight of the creations without wheels because tires are too heavy. And personally, i discovered that a technic creation with about 600 grams has about 1000 pieces.

You could also weight some pieces very used in technic creations such as cross axles, beams and conector pegs.

Anyway, my Smart Fortwo has 556 pieces and weights 337 grams (without wheels). Good luck with your formula!

Hey Thanks for getting back to me!

Yea, I have actually started deriving the formula both ways, and I have found that keeping in large parts really does not make a difference in the results (large parts such as wheels and tires). I, like you, thought that they would, but they do not. Also, I thought, where do you draw the line? Large parts, not in technic sets, like large plates in and star wars ships models, or other such models also weigh quite a bit, but I cannot leave those out, so I have chosen to keep them in. The only parts that I am keeping out are PF elements such as motors and battery packs. Anyways, thanks so much for your contribution!
