Round Two Matchups and Categories
 Group admin
First, please do not "reply" to this comment as some of the words in it trigger moderation.

Welcome to round two of the 2012 MocOlympics! This is the first of the "one on one elimination rounds." Below you will find your matchups with your opponent and your category.

Dates and Times:
Round two starts NOW and will end at 11:59 pm, MOCpages time on Sunday, October 7th. No entries will be accepted after this time. If you do not have your entry posted AND added to the group by the deadline, you will forfeit your match and your opponent will advance.

Title:
Your entry must be titled: MocOlympics (may be shortened to MO) round 2 "you" vs "Your opponent." You may title it anything you wish after that but that must be the opening of the title.

Category description:
Near the TOP of the entry you must state what category you are playing in. Feel free to simply copy and paste your category from this thread or type in the title of the category, your choice.

Links:
Preferably near the top of your post, you MUST have a WORKING link to your opponent’s page. If you post first then linking to their homepage is fine. If you post second, please link to their entry. You do not HAVE to change the link to their entry after they post (if you post first). That is your choice. You do NOT have to have a working link back to the main MocOlympics group. You’re free to add it if you wish but it is NOT required.

You must add your entry to the group pool. Once you add it to the group, that's it, it's OURS and NO changes may be made. We were easy on you in round one in regards to changing text but from THIS POINT FORWARD, NO changes may be made. If you make a change and we find out about it, you will be disqualified and your opponent will advance to the next round. We STRONGLY suggest that you get feedback from others and make any needed changes BEFORE adding it to the group. The judges will NOT look at it until it's added to the group.

Once you and your opponent have posted and added your entries to the group, the judges will vote on the mocs. There will be three judges for each matchup (divided by the brackets). You must receive 2 out of 3 votes to advance to the next round. The judges are NOT required to write full, detailed comments with their votes (but may if they choose to). The only thing required by a judge is which moc he’s voting for. Each judge’s decision is final.

Your judges are:
Brackets One and Two: Chris Phipson, Paul Vermeesch and Sebeus I.

Brackets Three and Four: Shannon Ocean, Chris Roach and Cody G.

Without further ado… welcome to round 2 and good luck!

Bracket one:

Stormbringer vs Matthew Oh
Eye Candy: Everyone has a favorite. Snickers, M&Ms, Crunchie. Build us a super sized replica of your favorite candy bar.

Paul Romano vs Legolord
Life size object: Choose a real life object (anything you wish) and build it in brick! Please include a picture of yourself, or someone you’ve conned into helping you, with the object so that we can see the proper size.

Brick Savage vs Kyle Peckman
What I did on my summer vacation: Now that Summer’s over (for us in the Northern Hemisphere), tell us what you did on your vacation? DisneyWorld? Hicking in the rockies?... sat on your (bleep) and played
video games and built with LEGO? Tell us (build it) what you did during your vacation.

LWC guy vs Quad????
Holiday Landscape: Build a landscape depicting your favorite holiday! (Halloween, Christmas, Easter, etc) Be sure to include WHICH holiday you’re building so we don’t have to guess.

Lego Junkie vs The invisible mime
How to train your dragon: Build us a scene (dio size) showing someone training their dragon… and yes you must include the dragon. Is it a serious scene readying for battle? Or a funny one where the dragon is “having fun” with his trainer? The choice is yours.

Giovanni vs Lee Muzzy
Creature Feature: Ok, not exactly what you might be thinking for this category but… Build us an animal, insect, beast or anything else that is/was a REAL animal on Earth (yes, extinct species are allowed).

Lego Obsessionist vs LukeSC Overlord
"Cross the ocean": create a boat, ship, raft, plank vessel...anything that floats and convince the judges that it could cross the ocean. Think of this as the "will it float" category from past games. The difference here is we're asking for a specific kind of vessel, one that could cross an ocean. Please include a picture of your creation floating on water.

Tom Remy vs Cedric Picher
It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine: Some (crazy) people say that in the year 2012, the world will end as we know it. Create a disastrous scene showing what might happen when the world ends!!!

Bracket 2

Leda Kat vs My name is Annonymous
A long time ago, in a category far, far away...: Ok you Klone Komandurs, now's your chance to show us what you can do! Build us a
Star Wars moc (dio or vig) based on any one of the 6 movies or Clone Wars TV show. We've left this wide open so let your imagination soar
and show us how strong you are with the force!

Mark Erickson vs Justin M
City block: Build a city block complete with storefronts and all the goings on of a regular, every day city.

Max Pointner vs Flare
Underground: What is living beneath our feet? Anything from a macro version of an ant colony to Mole Men bent on the destruction of the surface dwellers.

Rinse Jan vs Roger Brickjet
Under your bed: What's hiding under your bed? Is it piles of socks, drawers of Lego, 3 month old cheese burgers... or something more
sinister? Originality will play a key role here.

Mike Johnson vs Freeling++
"Don't underestimate my power" make a scene where a minifigure performs an incredible feat, the key lies in the posing of the figure and adapting the environment to the action. Is he lifting a car off a toddler or shoving someone out of the path of a speeding semi?
Come up with a moc of a NORMAL person performing an incredible feat!.

Parrington Levens vs David Alexander Smith
The Darwin awards: There’s a thousand ways to die, and an equally high number of “geniuses” to figure each of them out. Show us someone meeting their maker in the most “are you kidding me?” way possible.

Superspy X vs Gabe Umland
"Heartlake City. Dystopia:" The take on this category would be something along the lines of "The Stepford Wives" (Yes, the (bleepy) remake with Mathew Broderick) only instead of the women being the subserviant subjects, this time the shoe is on the other foot. Give us your version of a dystopian society where the women are in control and the men are objects to be owned. (If you have "Friends" minifigs use them. If you don't, NO deductions will be made to your moc)

Stuart Delahay vs David.
"Just one of those days..." Have you ever had a day where nothing went well? Maybe you got fired, maybe you could only find one sock, or maybe the machines rose up and took control of the planet. Show us your idea of the worst day ever.

Bracket 3

Nick Barrett vs JS Can
Build a better mouse trap: It’s the inventors curse and challenge all in one. Build us a new and ingenious mouse trap. No, you don’t have to show us the thing actually trapping a real mouse but do please show us how it works.

Lando L. Jackson vs The Timinator
Monocolour MOCcing: Build us a vig, dio or whatever. You can choose whichever Genre you wish to build in but here’s the catch. You can
only use ONE color. Which color you choose is your choice but only ONE!

George G. vs David Wang
Famous historical figures: Abe Lincoln? William Wallace? Sir Edmund Percival Hillary? Who is your favorite historical figure? Give us a moc showing us your choice doing what they’re famous for.

P. Voranc vs James Mckinnon
Wild West: Give us a scene from the old west. It could be a shootout at high noon, a prospector in the woods by the river, a saloon
complete with a drunken brawl... your choice, just set it in the old American western style.

Stuart Lucas vs LegoBuilder JUNIOR
"Bionicle Universe" Build something related to Bionicles, whether it's part of the official
storyline or your own fiction. You may use as much system as you want, but your creation MUST have something to do with the Bionicle
universe.

Ru Corder vs Tyler Halliwell
X marks the spot: build a scene where brave adventurers might find some loot. The treasure’s yours for the taking!

TheBricks vs Sir Blamorgineas
Underwater: Build us a moc that is set underwater. A simple enough concept but do you have what it takes to take it to the next level? Any "underwater" theme will do.

Nick V. vs Halhi 141
Life size LEGO object: Why should minifigs have all the cool stuff? Pick a LEGO “hand held” item (anything from a gun to a broom to a
briefcase or a screwdriver, anything made for minifig hands) and build it in real life scale. You must show a picture of someone holding the item (to show proper scale) and also include a picture of the item next to the minifig sized version of the piece that inspired it. (No brickarms or aftermarket stuff for this category. Choose a LEGO brand item)

Bracket 4

Blake Bear vs Thoy Bradley
"Melt Down" : HELP! It's so hot everything is melting ! The sidewalks, the buildings, the pigeons... This one may be a bit tricky
but build us a moc where everything has melted.

Adam L vs John Moffatt
Supersize: Choose a Lego element (brick, plate, tile, whatever) and build it at a larger than life scale (no minifig handheld items for this one please, that's a differrent category)! 2x2 bricks probably won't score
you many points but working hinge bricks... now there's an idea.

Legopard vs Joshua Christenson
The Renaissance: A genre the Lego company has never produced? What would it look like in plastic bricks? Choose a scene set in the
Renaissance period (different from the middle ages and typical "castle" stuff so choose wisely) and show us your take on it.

Riccardo Zangelmi vs Grant W
Lord of the Rings: Think of this as the generic "castle" category but set in the Lord of the Rings universe. Simple enough, build us a scene from the LotR mythos. It does NOT have to include any "official" figs (feel
free to use any figs you wish) and it does NOT have to actually even be a scene from the movies or books if you don't want it to be. As
long as it's part of that "world" you're good. In contrast to the MocAthalon category, we're not looking for "set designs" here.

Raphael Heusser vs Josh B.
Kind of a strange old hermit: Build us some sort of dwelling in a far off setting where someone has chosen to live outside of regular human contact. Is it a cabin in the woods, a tree house mansion, a cave dwelling, a tunnel system dug under the desert? Show us a place where “regular people” just don’t normally choose to live but some do.

Heath Flor vs MortalSwordsman
From the Works of Charles Dickens: Choose a scene from one of Author Charles Dickens' classics and bring it to bricky life!

Annie Corder vs Ian Spacek
Three squares a day: Pretty straight forward on this one. Create a life size Lego "meal."

LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist vs Legofreak2444
Famous album covers – (cd covers for you youngins) Build your own version of an album cover (mosaic or 3D, your choice). Please include a picture of or at least a link to the original artwork so we can compare them.

I'm going to atempt an effect that I have never seen anyone here do :)

May I say, it is an honor to be in the second round. Also, regarding my category... does the person have to be...old, necessarily? Like would Steve Jobs count? Well, do inventors in general count?

I was thinking about this too mate! For people such as Neil Armstrong or Barrack Obama, who are very modern but played massive roles in history. (I wasn't planning on doing such person, I'm just curious!)
Also, good luck David - let the battle commence!

Got it in one... but 'Nehru' was a genuine mistake, from dim memories of the names in old Lego catalogues, thanks for pointing that out!
Still, I spent a couple of hours reading the Bionicle wikia last night, so now I've got a bit more of a feel for it... still think I need a 'Mask of Bionicle Knowledge' to get all the plot lines and characters straight though!

Alright, quick question here.
While some of you might see this as me being a sore loser,(And yes, my ego is slightly bruised) but I've got a bit of a critique/question.

For my category Vs The Invisible Mime, it says for the category description. "How to train your dragon: Build us a scene (dio size) showing someone training their dragon… and yes you must include the dragon."

What I'm curious about is this, seeing as Mr. Mime's entry was a creature, and the category specifically says "Dio Size" and "Scene". How much do the categories actually apply when it comes time for judging?

I mean no offense to my opponent, his build was undoubtedly gorgeous. I'm just curious as to the guidelines given when judging the categories.

Thanks in advance!

I see your point although I must say I my opinion the dragon in Invisible Mime's entry was a landscape diorama on itself.
If he would have built a much smaller dragon (even if very nice) he might not have gotten my vote.

Remember that there can only be one of two that can proceed to the next round, you didn't do bad at all, don't forget that ;)

You have to remember that each judge will see things differently. It can be argued that his dragon is a dio in and of itself.

For me personally (and I know it means little in the grand scheme of things), I voted for yours as I thought yours both fit the category better and I thought your dragon was a better dragon (nothing against Mime's post of course, he did an excellent job). That being said, again, each judge will see it through their own eyes. I think for them it was more of a "different take on the category" thing that swayed their vote. But I'm not them and couldn't say for sure.
