Two Week Challenge 1: Microscale
Join to comment
 Group admin
Sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry. I almost forgot about this. (' )~( ,)

Anyway, this is the first of hopefully many Two Week Challenges. This week, microscale.

Basically, anything for a Microfigure or smaller qualifies and we will have a 16x16 stud area limit. You may create anything you like, and just so long as it fits within 16x16, but if you choose to be all mathematical and geometric, it has to be built on a base. There is no height restriction however.

This is to see your use of pieces creatively. Anything goes so a city block or a starship or anything in between. Although this makes it broad, we're looking for the use of the pieces.

The deadline for your new creation is FRIDAY, JANUARY 18, 2013 so please have your entry in by then. Judging will comence the following day, and not a day sooner but maybe a little later, life is funny.

Only one other requirement. We do not need comments saying you will participate, all we are asking for is the link to the entry. Just adding to the group does not help, it has to be in this conversation topic.

The winner will be promoted to Moderator and will be asked to take part in judging in other challenges or contests. They will not be obligated to judge everytime though because I have not particularly enjoyed judging every contest and not been able to enter in any of them myself except to get the group's picture.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask. Happy building.

Do we have to say in the title:

2 week challenge 1 abbreviated 2WC

2WC 1: then whatever you want here

Then add a working link in the description right?

Title and link are optional. You must, in this convo thread, give a link to your entry, so that it's easier to find.

Yes, and like Halhi said, Titles and links are optional. Just so long as the link to your creation in here in this topic conversation.

I think it just depends on how many enter on whether or not I would need help judging. George just offered to help if I needed it, too, so I say you can build.

Okay, thanks. About the Lego interest. Don't force yourself to build. If you are losing interest, just let things be. If you force yourself to build, then it will only fuel the disinterest because you are no longer building for the enjoyment.

Thanks, those are some real words of wisdom, but I don't think that I am forcing myself to build, it's just I don't have any real inspiration. I start on these projects that never actually turn into anything, like apocalypse scenes and mecha hangers, but they fall apart (Not literally) half way though... I'm in the middle of working on a short star wars storyline, so maybe posting the fist chapter will push me to finish the series! Hopefully I can have it out by today, or at least a character guide...

If I build in SNOT, I assume that it has to be close to the 16x16 space limit. Correct? No promises, but I'll try to enter something.

My entry is well within the 16x16 requirements (at its widest it's only 10x10 with 1.5 studs of overhang.
It doesn't however, have a base. It's intended to be suspended in the air, so the whole thing is connected to a trans antenna and two trans 3x3 round shields. Is this okay?

It it is completely obvious, then a base it not needed. It only has to fit within a 16x16 space. Say you thing ended up being 17 studs long, then you would need a base and make it fit within the 16x16 area because it would have to be at an angle. Limit overhang as much as possible, but you already said that it is well withing the area, so overhang is fine on you.

Okay, I seemed to have left out categories of how I will be judging, not like you care right now, but it is out of 20 points.

5 Originality - What you built in microscale
5 Presentation - Set up of your page and pictures
10 Build/Quality - Clean, Parts Usage, etc.

Results will be coming shortly.

So we've had a bit of a snag in the results. There happens to be a tie for first and second and even third place. I'm in the middle of contacting Beetle for help because his entry honestly didn't stand a chance, and he's already an Administrator. But yeah, ties for the first three places, that's how good these entries were. I cannot justify changing a few scores by halfpoints just so we can have winners right now because they are too good.

So what this means now is LB Senior is the winner and can help in judging. He will now become a moderator. Also, he gets to choose a medium for the next 2 week contest. When he has decided on one from the the Contest Ideas section, we will comence with the next contest. Thanks for all the great entries everybody. Oh, and thanks to Halhi for finding all the builders.

Thanks for hosting this contest, and well done to the people who entered! It was fun and a great start to future contests.

So, do I host the contest, or just pick the theme? From the "Contest Ideas 2" thread?

Pick a theme, host it, make rules, judge. Pretty much whatever you want. If you just want to pick a theme and I make rules, and you help in judging. It's pretty much free will. I would ask that you pick an idea from the list just so that we can use the ideas people came up with.

How about a sig. fig. vig. contest? Build a vignette to go with your sig fig. So if your sig fig is a knight, build a scene of him battling a villain to save a damsel in distress. Or if your sig fig is a Star Wars figure, have him in a Star Wars related vignette. And so on. I kind of branched off from the "custom minifigure" idea. Hope that is fine.

When should I start?
