Weekly Challenge: Idea

Okay, so activity has been extremely light recently, if you were not aware. And if you weren't aware, it's probably because you weren't being active. So I am proposing an idea to bring back activity.

Weekly Challenge:
We will take a suggestion from the suggestions page, and we will do a weekly contest on it. Every now and then, we will have a more in depth contest.

It's pretty straight forward. I'm thinking that the we will do something like every Saturday, judging will take place, and the next contest will be started the same day. The winners of the first few weeks will become the main judges for a certain saturday of every month.

So say Jimbob judges every 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month and Jimjoe judges every 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month. These people will be made moderators so they can creat topics and judge with a title. If we were to have a 5th Saturday of a month, that would be our more in depth Contest unless we already had one in place because activity has picked up.

We wouldn't be asking people to sign up, we would just ask for links to the creations. Should a judge choose not to want to continue, the winner of the contest of their week will take their place. If they do not want to, runner up gets the job.

So, what do you think? This topic is only to see if we like the idea, need to make adjustments, and then get everything straightened out as soon as possible so we can be active.

Oh, and anyone can voice their opinion on this matter. Even the other admins and moderators have been no-shows. That's how bad we need people to be active.

How reliable are Jimbob and Jimjoe for judging? Everything hinges on more than one person entering and the judge judging. Good thought though and I think it could work if we get the word out.

Aside from the slight flaw mentioned above me, this could be a great idea!

Sorry for me being scarce finals were rough but I'm back.

Sounds good, hopefully we'll get more activity this way.

I'm the contest coordinator for my local LUG, and from my experience, trying to do something weekly is not very effective. We tried doing that for a while, but it quickly fizzled. We now do a monthly challenge, and so far that's going well). We're a relatively new LUG, so we haven't been doing it that long.

I think having a contest group is a cool idea, as it gives people new ideas for MOCs, but I think that focusing on quality over quantity is also a good idea. Having a monthly challenge would give everyone a little more time to try and build something, but would be often enough to hopefully keep people interested.

I think the last few contests have also been victim of unfortunate timing, since there have been several other contests going on recently on MOCpages.

This is what I like seeing. I'm really not all too experienced in contests, so I don't know the best strategies. The group was basically dropped on me. I haven't been building much either because I'm constently just judging and then other stuff in life in between keeping me from building. Because of the inactivity, monthly contests have not been going well. A month gives people almost too much time because they have more time to forget. Perhaps every two weeks?

Defiantly two weeks. A month is to long.

Okay, so we have a clear idea of how it should work then? I think we should begin this Saturday, so any other concerns are welcome before then.

Then we'll need a category, build limit (if any) and a judges outline thing.

Sounds good. I should warn you though, anything that has to do with SW, I cannot participate in. I don't own a single SW set, nor do I like the theme.

We are the only judges, you know?

I'm confused.... haha! I'm saying for other contests in this group. This group doesn't have a contest yet....we didn't even have judges sign-ups in this group.

We do have judges. Right now, it's The Beetle and myself, and if he decides to return, George Marshall. In our earlier contests, they awarded people with promotion. I've made Halhi a Administrator becasue he keeps wanting to add people, and it is just easier if he is an Admin. However, I'm thinking that the winners of the first few of these will become Moderators and then they will be judges.

Who said you were a judge? You would have to win one of the first few contests to become one. Haha.

You're fine. This was quite the burst of activity for the group, so I've been a little jumbled just in here. (' )___( ')
