So for the first contest, we make a group picture? It can be anything?

Question: Will this contest run into the MocOlympics

Well, actually, this isn't a "timed" contest. This will have many contests, keep people posted on other non-group contests such as the MocOlympics, and will hopefully stay active for a while. So to answer your question, yes, yes it will, but you don't have to enter every single one of these contests.

By looking at which contest has not ended yet. Right now, The "Group Picture" contest is going on right now, but that will end on the 31st. Hope I helped!

Hey, are we allowed to make more than one entry for the same creation? Like say I made three different designs around the creation, would that be legal?

Even though I would love to see all three designs, you may only submit one entry. Also, submitting three entries would be unfair for the other contestants, as you would have three times more chance of winning. So, please just enter one. Thanks!

Is it not going to be judged by a points system because that sounds more like it would be a random choice which also does not seem fair. I will stick to one design though.

I just read over my last comment, and maybe I should have worded that differently... But no, it is not just a random pick. Remember, this is not a normal contest, I will be choosing the entry that I believe will fit this group best. In future contests, they will be based on point systems though.

What do you guys think about having a list of the winners, their entries, and the contest on the front page of the group, as a motivation for participation? I think something like what LVC does with the ABS Forever group would be nice: http://www.mocpages.com/group.php/18786

Hello! This is an invitation to all of the admins of this group to join the "Connecting the Best!" group (invitations have already been sent out to the admins of this group).

I know you may have a lot of discussing to do, but I hope you consider joining. Please note that i Brick did not start the group, and please note that i Brick is not the host of the group. It just so happened that I (an i Brick admin) thought of it.

In the invitation you received, you can see the group even though you haven't joined yet, (it's a private group) so please read the description to see what it's all about.

I hope you consider joining the Connecting the Best group.

This is not an advertisement. Reading the group description in the invitation should explain it all :)

It's not random. It never gets updated! But it must have gotten fixed at some point if we're there and some other one that is not normally there. There used to be an old MocOlympics, a speederbike contest, and that Halo thing that had also ended.

Well what would there be to talk about? Unless we had a spammer kid, and we almost do, or there was some mega issue that only we would need to keep private, then we would use one. I've never really been a fan of Staff Groups anyway because other than remembering to go, sometimes nothing is ever said.

I agree with you, BUT there definitely is some pros to having a staff group. We could talk about the next contests away from the public, so people would be completely surprised about contests and not have plans about builds already formulated in their heads. We can discuss members if need be, away from the public so no one gets offended. We can also discuss new mods and admins, and not offend anyone when we give a reason why someone doesn't deserve the title of admin/mod. There are a lot of pros to having a staff group.

Alright everyone, its come to my attention that many of you do not know what A Game of Thrones is. So I'll explain it, with as few spoilers as possible. So basically, this is whats given in episode one.

A Game of Thrones is a very popular epic fantasy TV series based of the novel series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin. I follows the story of a number of different families of noblemen, all attempting to take the Iron Throne and rule Westeros (the continent in which most of the series is set).

First, there's the Starks. The Stark family are the wardens of the north, and the father of the family, Eddard 'Ned' Stark is good friends with the king, Robert Baratheon.

The Lanisters are the wealthiest family in Westeros, partly because they are joined by marriage the the Baratheons, the royal family of Westeros. The eldest member of the family is Tywin Lanister, father of Jamie Lanister, Cersei, and Tyrion. Cersie is the queen of Westeros

The Baratheons are the current royal family. King Robert Baratheon won the Iron Throne in battle from the "mad King" Aerys II, against the old royal family, the Targaryens. Robert has two brothers, Stannis and Renly, who apear mush later in the series

The Targaryens are the previous and first royal family of Westeros. All of the Targaryens were killed when Robert took the throne, except for Daenerys and her older brother Viserys. The Targaryens are said to be immune to fire, as their house symbol is a three-headed dragon, one head representing Aegar the conqueror, who forged the Iron Throne, and the other two being his two sister-wives.

So thats loosely what A Game of Thrones is. Unfortunately, if people haven't watched all 40 of its 1 hour long episodes, well, a challenge based around it wouldn't really work.

Pages 3 Top Right, 13 Right, 19 Right, and 32 Left. I've had sets using those techniques, and they work just fine. I know Jamie makes great sets, but I've had sets that use these techniques and are perfectly compatable, except for 32. 32 makes no sense as being legal.

Page 3 top right: The technic brick's hole is slightly higher, it is noticeable.
Page 13 right: That one too is dangerous, since it can be pushed in further than the normal cylinder, which isn't good for the piece. It can be used, if reinforced and everything, but it's risky.
Page 19 Right: Definately illegal. I got that cone stuck on one of those rods for years because I did that (I think the cone has to be transparent for there to be a problem)
Page 32 Left: I think that one is legal. If held at a slight angle, as it is naturally put into, it's fine.

And I'm telling you that those illegal connections have appeared in sets that I own, and that even though I read the text, I disagree with what they say, and they remain as legal techniques. Even tiles inbetween studs used to be legal way back in the day. Illegal techniques in my book partain to the uses of clips and seperate minifigure pieces. I tend to avoid them unless absolutely necessary for what I want to achieve in my build.

Yes, but this presentation is about techniques that are not found in modern sets. The reason that you'll find them in older sets is because the designers didn't know better, they didn't go to so many tests to test the proportions of the pieces and everything...

As do I. I use the occasional loose hand or technic pin in a brick/plate, but I avoid them whenever possible.

for the post apocalyptic category, does it have to be a single scene or multiple scenes like a short story or something?

Single scene, I think.

With all this talk about illegal techniques, I have to ask, is there any rule against them in these contests?

Generally no. Occasionally they may not be allowed, but if they aren't allowed (typically in "Design a Lego Set" contests), we'll specify in the rules.

1. i'm new to the group, so how long is the time limit for each compettition,or does each have a different length depending upon subject?

2. i'm primarily a technic or alternatives builder, so could we do something themed on that as a contest, like the alternative contest, the super-sized brick compettition, or the "build something that would normally done in system in technic/bionicle" topics??

Welcome to the group!

1. Typically two weeks.

2. One of those will probably show up eventually, you'll just have to wait for them to be chosen.

Thanks for joining!

Thanks for the swift reply!

two weeks is great as i generally take a while to settle on an idea i like, and i'm quit busy at the moment, so i'll happily wait till a suitable category pops up!

Hey George I would like to ask you something quick. I am starting a group of my own (maybe) that is a contest group which will work quite differently from yours. There will be one theme picked every three months and there will be different contests for that theme and for every contest you win you will recieve points and by the end of the year the person with the most points win the championship or what ever I'm gonna call it (Maybe I'll name it after you if you really want to sponser it :P). Blah... Blah... Blah... I could go on for hours anyways... I was wondering if our groups could be in alliance with each other. It would be greatly appreciated if you accepted but I understand if you don't. Thanks for your time. ~SS
