Hey guys, while you're working away at your entries for the 11th contest (or maybe not), feel free to comment here with some thoughts about how this group is progressing.

1. How effective do you think the semi-monthly contests have been at keeping your interest and maintaining a dynamic group?

2. Currently, members require approval to join the group. Does this make ABS Forever seem better to you, or is it just a hassle to wait a day to get in?

3. We've become the fifth largest group in under two years, and are highly ranking in creations added as well. Can this growth continue, or is there a plateau in the cards?

4. Any suggestions you have on how to improve contests, new ideas for keeping the group fresh, etc.?

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts, hopefully you're enjoying this group!

Well, for the one day I'm active this week, in a group I rarely visit nowadays, let me answer ;-D

1)They were working. No though, I feel like there is a drop in participation. This may have to do with the rise of Flickr, or members getting older and not having the time, but either way, it is working, but's time is slowly going away.

2) Well, approval makes sure we have members that will be active or can participate. I say keep it.

3) Plateau, I'm afraid. MP doesn't seem to be growing as a whole, at least it isn't for the old guard. We've seen MUCH less activity from AFOLs, and that all funnels down to us TFOLs and YFOLs. I think ABS Forever has hit a peak, and it's starting to show some age.

4) Uhm. Well. Maybe more categorized competitions (such as a Military competition, or architecture competitions, etc).

1. Haven't participated in any yet, but they definitely seem interesting (and have reminded me about this group a few times). They're a good idea, but maybe they should happen less often than every month; less frequently so they're more special. So more people participate when they're going on.

2. I'm with Achintya. Besides, a day or two isn't that long a wait.

3. Plateau in regards to members and mocs? No. In regards to community participation...yeah, it seems like it. After all, this is only the second response to your questions and it's been several days.

4. Perhaps a few new convos on, maybe, sharing techniques or shoutouts to good builders.

Thanks Kai, I have been thinking of reducing the frequency of contests and adding in something more tangible as a prize. Interesting idea for the tutorial shoot-outs too, thanks.

1. They've certainly kept me returning to the group, but I agree that participation seems to be down lately. Not entirely sure why, though--they're always creative and thought-provoking. Maybe people are simply forgetting to stop by and check them out. That being said, the reminder on your home page is a good idea.

2. I definitely think this should stay--it ensures that members will stay active and/or are serious users of MP.

3. If the group stays as it is now, judging by the participation in contests we may see a little bit of a plateau. Not that I have any ideas to reinvigorate interest... I would suggest contests, but they're already in place. Sorry Luke, I got nothing for ya here...

4. Same as #3, I'm kinda blanking out at the moment. That being said, I'll brainstorm.

Thanks for taking the time to do this! It certainly shows that you're looking for ways to improve the group.

Thanks A M, I always appreciate your comments and this is no exception. I am indeed hoping to maintain a strong MOCpages community, and am always seeking creative ways to keep things fun. Cheers!

1. Well, they definitely have kept me interested. They are very creative and thought out, I love them. They definitely keep this group dynamic. The only reason I have failed to build for them is time, but they are great mini contests!

2. To me it makes it better. That way you can approve who joins, and make sure they are appropriate.

3. I am sad to admit it, but I think that there is a plateau in the cards. All the good AFOLs and some great TFOLs (like Simon S. :( ) have left, and more are still, while a lot of "kiddies" are joining. Again, sad to admit, but I think we are leveling out the plain.

4. Well, I would keep up the contests. They definitely help people to become active again. You could even start topics that require thought, not just "Cool!" That would help to keep it active and fresh. Maybe even a "Hurt and Heal." :)

1. Quite well. The categories are actually interesting, and the only reason I'm not building for it is because of bball.

2. I don't think approval should be necessary as long as you are keeping an eye on the members. But I don't think anyone will do anything st upid.

3. A group takes people to get bigger in all the stats! The more people, usually, the bigger the stats.

4. Keep things going, make sure people know about the group.
