Welcome to Round 3 of the Middle Earth Lego Olympics! At this point we trust that you all know how things work, but if you’re still not feeling 100% certain, head on over to the “rules” thread and enlighten yourselves. Sixteen of you are still running! The theme for all Round 3 categories is “The Two Towers”. The short write-ups beneath the match-ups serve simply to provide tidbits of context. Don’t feel limited by them, though please stay on topic!
Round 3 begins now and ends at 11:59PM (Mocpages time) on 2/3/13. No Round 3 entries will be accepted into the group after that time.
Required for all Round 3 entries:
-Title your entry: MELO Round 3: [your name] vs. [your opponent’s name]
-State your bracket (Barad Dur or Orthanc) FIRST THING in the intro box. As there are two sets of judges, this immediately informs them if your entry is in their bracket or not. It’s a courtesy!
-Provide a WORKING link to your opponent’s homepage or entry (depending on which of you posts first), placed preferably near the top of your entry’s page. You can also include a link to the MELO homepage if you’d like (appreciated, but not required).
-State the category you’re playing in, preferably near the top of your page.
And now gents, without further ado, the Round 3 match-ups and categories!
Barad Dur Bracket: As before, your judges are Mark Murphy, Christopher Baldacci, and Ian Spacek. The judges are not required to give feedback on their decisions.
Playing in this bracket we still have…
Buurli Burri vs. Poggle 55
Category: "They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!"
Two of the haflings have been captured by a band of Uruk-hai and three familiar characters are in hot pursuit! By all means, show us the course of events!
Disco 86 vs. Kenton Lanier
Category: Passage of the Marshes
With the exception of some freakish lights, a bunch of dead bodies, and an obsessed/double-minded guide...it's your typical swamp! Show us the adventures of Frodo, Sam, and Gollum as they traverse THE DEAD MARSHES!!! *Beethoven's 5th*
Justin Knelsen vs. Martin Geistefeldt
Category: Warg Riders
They may not be your commonplace house pets, but you got to admit, they're kind of cute! RIGHT?! Okay, I guess I'm the only one who entertains that idea...never mind then. Anyhow, build us some Warg(s)!! And remember, your entries ARE NOT limited to mini-fig scale...just sayin'.
Dodge vs. Derrick Rose
Category: Helms Deep
When asked to name an epic battle sequence from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Helms Deep is probably one of the first things that comes to mind. Make your bricks epic! And for the record, there's 10,000 Uruk-hai...
Bricklink! *hint, hint*
Orthanc Bracket: As before, your judges are Michael Kringe, Max Pointner, and Aidan Moon. The judges are not required to give feedback on their decisions.
And playing in this bracket we still have…
Kyle Ransom vs. Jackson Williams
Category: Gollum and Smeagol
Perhaps one of Tolkien's most fascinating characters is the creature Gollum. Draw us into the duo sides of this poor soul's mind. Revisit his past perhaps, his decline as he serves "the Precious." Or, on a lighter note, depict the positive effect Frodo has on him. Lego can go a long way!
LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist vs. Toa Infernum
Category: "Wraiths on Wings"
The Nazguls' mounts aren't limited to horses! Undoubtedly a distant relative of flamingos, build us the fiend beast(s)!! And remember, your entries ARE NOT required to be mini-fig scale...just sayin'.
Grant Davis vs. Matthew Oh
Category: The King of the Golden Hall
The kingdom of Rohan is deteriorating. With Saruman's pillaging, Wormtongue's poisonous words, and virtually a zombie on the throne, hope is all but gone. Use your bricks to show us the rustic beauty of Edoras and the events therein.
Brick Tales vs. Jacob Nion
Category: March of the Ents
Saruman has overstepped his bounds and the forest is not pleased. The Ents are going to war, and Merry and Pippin with them. Orthanc is the target. Note: Try to avoid getting splinters. Let the building commence!
And there you have it folks, Round 3 is now in full swing. Get building!
[EDIT] Due to the up-loader problem, the Round 3 deadline has been officially extended:
