Well for the qualifier the Hobbit is definitely an option. If you manage to get into the elimination rounds, then you'll just have to do a little research on your given LOTR category.

Although i suggest reading the books first, you could watch the movies to catch up, or just do something hobbit related

Hi Ian! First, thanks for the invite! I will closely follow this contest, but alas I won't participate... I'm a big fan of Tolkien's work so it's a shame, but I need more time before I enter another contest! And you may have noticed that the MocOlympics adventure isn't over for me ;) I have numerous projects (Lego and non-Lego), so I definitely can't sign for two-three months of building madness right now! Plus I would like to build some Silmarillion MOCs (I like obscure!), and that's not the purpose of this contest... Maybe I'll take a chance next year if you organize another one! See you soon --Tom--

Haha, no worries Tom! While I invited all four of you finalists, I wasn't expecting any of you would play (heh, I was already pretty weary of building by the time I got out back in round 4). As for the Sillmarillion, we decided to stick with the more well known texts. We wanted the contest to be as inclusive as possible. Anyhow, thanks for joining! Depending on how this goes, perhaps there will be another one next year. Maybe I'll even bump the start back a few weeks now that the word will be out.

Well this competition, has just made me to read the LOTR books again; also in Germany there is an pretty good talking-book series existing ( since my childhood) , and i am searching for that special scene, i started to built. I hope i find quickly an english version of the first book, to tell the story of the scene in authentic words...
I think, my entry will be uploaded on the last day of the first round. But i am impressed by the entries that have already been rushed in. I am very enthusiastic to see more of it, even if i should be eliminated.

For Round 1, we've stated that we're simply looking for good builds from LOTR/The Hobbit. My comments in regards to "obscure" were mainly meant to explain why we're not including a lot of the 1st/2nd age stuff, etc.

Obscure scenes are not well known, but all the judges know LOTR and the hobbit really well so we should know whatever scene you do well enough.

Hey guys, unfortunately I won't be able to finish and post my entry. I was working on the tower of Cirith Ungol, and I was about 2/3rds of the way through. I honestly don't know how you guys find time (maybe your age) but I have so many research papers, and essays to do and my work is just getting ridiculous already. There is no time for ANYTHING. Plus this weekend had gone terribly, and many things have been going on for me personally...I was really looking forward to this contest, and my entry was pretty cool looking. It lit up and everything. Now, it's probably going to be demolished, along with all my other attempts at creations within the past year. I hate it, I really do. I feel so disappointed in the fact that I didn't finish. There's no time to relax. I'm always rushing and stressing to get something done, and it's really overwhelming. As Bilbo once said, "I need a holiday. A very long holiday." Sorry guys.

That's too bad. It sounds like it would have been great. I agree that you ought to post pics of the unfinished build. I understand not being able to finish something so huge; check out my old moc from when i was a kid http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/345127 That's why my contest entry was only as large as it was (which was still a huge build for me and took a long time); you don't need to build something grandiose to have a good build, by the way. I actually prefer nice little MOCs that are like cutouts from a scene rather than one that is all-encompassing.

Hi Stephan,
I'll present your appeal to the other judges, but this is a tricky matter. While I think it's very likely that you're telling the truth, we have no proof of it. I mean no offense if you're being honest (in your defense, the up-loader has been reported to be malfunctioning lately), but your appeal could be viewed as an excuse for running out of time. We have to handle these situations carefully. I'll talk to at least one of the other judges for a second opinion, but I think it's unlikely that we'll allow you to enter. Sorry my friend. Like I said, I think you're probably telling the truth, but we just don't have any proof. We'll see!

So, now finaly tried the Java-Uploader, this time it has worked( should have tried to modify my security-level former..).

When I bend the rules too much, I understand.

But nevertheless it was fun built something from Middleearth!

I talked with a few of the other judges and they were unanimous. Unfortunately we're not going to permit you to enter your build. We're aware that the up-loader has been acting funny lately, but deadlines are deadlines. Thank you for understanding. You built a unique creation nonetheless. There's always next year (most likely)! :)

I had a friend of mine take some quality photos of my last entry (as my camera work is lacking). If you have some time, please stop by and take a look/comment.

As always, good luck to all still standing in round 3!

Yes, it looks like we'll have to. Tough luck.

I'll post an official thread about it shortly.
