Round 5 matchups!

We're down to the final 8 players in the 2011 MocOlympics!
(hey, make it through this round and you're guaranteed a prize!)

Round five starts NOW and will end at 11:59 pm, MOCpages time (Sunday) November 13th. No entries will be accepted after this time.

Your entry MUST:
Be titled "MocOlympics (may be shortened to MO) round 5 "You" vs "Your opponent." You may title it anything you wish after that but that must be the opening of the title.

Near the TOP of the entry you must state what category you are playing in and you must have a WORKING link to both the MocOlympics group AND your opponent's page. If you post your entry first then their homepage is fine, if they post first then link to their entry please. (You do not have to change it to their entry after they post but it would be nice to them if you did. Again, not needed and you will NOT be docked in any way if you don't. Your choice)

You must add your entry to the group pool (no, you don't need to leave any links, adding it to the group is good enough). Once you add it to the group, that's it, it's OURS and NO changes may be made. We STRONGLY suggest that you get feedback from others before adding it to the group. If any changes need to be made please do so BEFORE you add it to the group pool. The judges will NOT look at it until it's added to the group.

Once you and your opponent have posted and added to the group, the judges will vote on the mocs. There will be SIX judges for each matchup. You must receive 4 out of 6 votes to advance to the next round. In case of a tie, a 7th judge will be brought in to break the tie.

Your judges are:
Chris Phipson, Matt David, Mr. Xenomurphy, Stacy Sterling, Dave Kaleta, El Barto

Alright, if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Here are the categories...

Thoy Bradley vs George G. in:
Theme Mash-Up: Fabulantis? Space Paradisia? What else can we smash together to make a new LEGO theme? Create a “set” to show the brilliance of your new theme.

Jason Corlett vs Antonio Silva in:
They call that a sport? :Think far off into the future and give us your take on what the national past time may be in the next century or so!

Gabriel Thomson vs Leda Kat in:
The last word: Build us a story, any story you wish but here’s the catch...
The first line of your story MUST read:
"After the canary died the mine was shut down, but that wasn't the end, only the begining."
And the last line of your story MUST read:
"And to this day, I still cry whenever I see a mocha frappuccino."
We don't care how you get from point A to point B. We don't care if it's two panels or 40, just that you have the lines make sense within the story. This category will be judged on both building AND story telling.

The Fisherman vs Giovanni Seynhaeve in:
Evil Scientist vs. Evil Scientist: Two evil scientists fighting each other, but not with just chalk on a board, but with crazy weapons they just invented.

I have some questions :)
1) For my category, the Theme-Mash-Up set, are we aiming to make a set that LEGO would actually produce (so slightly simplified with lots of features and no illegal techniques) or are we trying to pack in as much detail and as possible?
2) Can we produce a box for our "set"?
3) Am I the last remaining TFOL?
Thanks :)

Can I use "comic life" for my story? I don't know yet whether I will, (my idea might yet better suit just whole images) but before I go planning for a comic format I need to know if it is ok.

Concerning my cathegory: I presume this involves more than canons and bombs?

And do we each make one evil scientist, hence the vs? Or do we create a duel amongst two in one MOC?

1: I would personally just mash up two themes and build it to the best of your ability. If the other judges think differently they can advise you further.

2: Sure, why not. It'll only add to it in my opinion. Can't say how much it will "count" towards the judging but it wouldn't hurt in any way.

3: Yes... yes you are. At this point I think you (and Popcorn... who still hasn't gotten back to me) are the only ones guranteed a prize. If you advance, you get one for being in the top 4, if you don't, you get the furthest advancing TFOL prize so congrats!

Which brings up a question from me... After George here, who is the next furtherst advancing TFOL? If George advances he won't get two prizes so... who is it?

Another one I'll put to the judges. I'll be leaning towards a "no" on this since we've always been against too much "photoshop type stuff."

But, we'll put it to a vote with the judges and get back to you. In the mean time, assume it's a "no please."

I appreciate the compliment, and your level-headedness is very mature at your age. I'd just like to encourage you and say that you've done well at keeping your own this far into the competition, don't let me be a tool of intimidation. Your a great builder for your age and thats something no competition can take away from you :) Give this your all and show us why you are here George :) I look forward to your theme combination as I think this could go either way depending on who pulls off their mash-up the best. Great to hear, so it will be a big moc vs a big moc. Mine is currently at around 20%. I had to pull it mostly apart to add some playability, then I had an issue with not enough bricks for one feature so I had to re-pull it all apart and downsize it. But it will look good when its finished :) Cant wait to see what you come up with.

I don't have to have a parts problem, but due to my limitation of themes I have a limited parts problem. Most mash-ups I can make by the themes I own are boring and very much the same as they start lol...

Quoting George G.
I just popped into the group to see if Thoy had posted yet :) also, I'm on my iPod, not my computer, which means I can get to the group in about 5 seconds!

Bah! 5 seconds equals three to six more pieces added to your build! Anyway, good luck!

Well actually, my brilliant creation just fell apart on me and I wonder if its worth fighting to save... Might be a case of 'start from scratch'...

Well, that was much easier to mend than I first thought. Just gotta build the second part of the set and it will be photo time! Do I post today or on Sunday at 11:30 (Monday 4:30 for me :D )

Post it today! Then I can see how to change mine before I post it :P Well it won't really be today for me because it's Midnight here.
I haven't attempted to move mine yet, and I have to rely on it not raining tomorrow (mmmmm, yeah.... Britain) as there's no where I can photograph it inside!
