I just fixed one of our $10,000 graphics printers with my pocket knife. Had no clue what I was doing. Now it works, I'm a hero, no big deal.

You should see me with a Leatherman. Ain't nothin' I can't do with a Leatherman. Intake manifold collapsed last week. Leatherman + zip ties = fixed manifold. Really, I'm quite unbelievably impressive at times.

Yeah, sorry, no hillbillies here in the mitten. We just have white trash. Oh wow that was a bit harsh. Fixing cars is just sort of a biproduct of growing up here. You know, wake up, go to school, come home, do homework, bore out your cylinders, no big deal.

As long as you don't have a knife set and chloroform in the back...I always keep duct tape in the car. It's an all purpose emergency aide. Lacerations tourniquets, splinting bone fractures, just ask Lee. I bet he's had to cut off plenty of duct tape splints over the years. And not just at parties.

But seriously? No, your builds were much more complex. As you used SNOT, and crazy cheeseslope techniques.
You certainly deserved the win.

In different stores, if you ask the "nice employee" then you have a pretty good chance of being able to attain a box. They are a really good bargain considering that about 6-7 canisters can fit in 1.

I bought 4 large PAB cups of a mixture of bricks and two sets while in Chicago and didn't have any room left in my pack and my bank account was running on E. However the regret I have about not going crazy in that Lego store gives me sleepless nights I must admit. Wish I hadn't spent so much money in Vegas now.

Ouch, that stings, the Vegas vs Lego thing, but you can always buy more Lego anytime. And flying all the way back to NZ with bricks in your pants wouldn't have been very comfortable, that's for sure! Although it's fun digging through the buckets, I think BL is still the best way to go.

Aw Leda, I have to admit I too am curious about the Large PAB Boxes. With NZs currency how it is now is the prime time to make some Lego Toolkit expansion :) So far I have spent close to $3'500 on BL and recieved close to 26'000 pieces. This is darer than those boxes isn't it? At $100NZD a box that would equate to around 30 Boxes inc shipping??

I think its worth it. I am mad that Lego is just so hard to come by here. The closest store that sells it here just opened up yesterday after being closed since the February quake and they had 30% off toys. I checked out their Lego section and there was one half shelf with some SW stuff, some City and Police and Ningago... where was the new Harry Potter sets?! the Pirate of Caribbean? Where was the creator sets? the 16+ Cafe corner style sets? Nothing!

It's not just in NZ, lots of stores, especially smaller private ones, rarely carry any of the big sets. I guess they're too expensive to have sitting around. It might be worthwhile asking the owner, negotiate a special deal.

The store Boss gave me a heads-up so I can finally meet him. Maybe it would be good for me to find out what our importing deal is, would be nice for NZ to start stocking PaB Cups and Boxes, or doing us a 1-off order.

If they want to know just how popular Lego actually is here, all they need to do is go to Trade Me and type in Lego. Nearly 5000 items. The series 5 minifigs alone are up for around $12.

Im sure small pvivate shops are forced to go through middlemen. The store where my mate works says they get an allowed quota at the start of each series, based on their sales throughput. I've asked his boss for special deals and the boss generally gets turned down based on the numbers that larger store chains have ordered - for example, Pharoahs Quest was only given to The Warehouse brand. When NZ was under-shipped the HP sets the Warehouse brand also took 90% of that. Smaller chains simply don't get the opportunities to sell.
It wouldn't surprise me if this was TLG's method world wide.

What about online retailers there in NZ, other than BL that is? Are they competitive with the old brick and mortar stores?
