Round One (9/4-9/13)
 Group admin
Welcome everyone, to round one of the 2011 MocOlympics!

Be sure to read EVERYTHING in the following post. If there is something NOT covered here that you have a question about then feel free to ask. If it IS answered in here, we will simply ignore your question.

Round one is a free for all, elimination round. All players entries are going to be scored on a 1-10 scale. The higher your points, the more chance you have of advancing to round 2. Only the top 64 players will advance to the "player vs player" rounds.

Title: Please title your moc "MocOlympics (may be shortened to M.O.) round 1." You can add to the title after this if you wish but please open the title with this.

Your entry MUST include a link back to the MocOlympics group homepage. To learn how to make a link, click on the "learn some simple HTML" tab on the upload page when uploading your moc. Remember, a link WILL NOT WORK in the introduction area of the upload. You must put it in the main body of the post. Then you MUST add your creation to the group. Your creation must be added no later than 11:59 PM on September 13th, MOCpages time (that's Eastern US time). No entries will be accepted after that time. We will lock the group so that no entries may be added after the cut off.

Once you have added your MOC to the group, it is an official entry. Any change made to your post or pictures after this may result in disqualification.

Once all the entries are in, the judges will then score all of the entries. NO ENTRIES WILL BE JUDGED UNTIL AFTER THE CUT OFF TIME. After the judges have scored all of the entries (we have spreadsheets) then you will be given your total score by one of the judges in a comment on your moc.

Categories: You may choose from one of the following eight categories to build in. Be sure to include which category you have chosen at the top of your post.

Spring
Summer
Fall
Winter
Earth
Water
Wind
Fire

That's all the information we're going to give you. Let your imagination run wild here. Please don't ask "Hey for fire, can I build X?" We don't want to hear it. Whatever you feel fits the category is what you build. Do your best and good luck. You have ten days starting...

Now!

Like Mr. X said, pick one. Even if your build could be interpreted to be in several categories, YOU have to pick ONE. There's no extra credit for multiples or anything like that. Good luck!

"Self-plagiarism is the reuse of significant, identical, or nearly identical portions of one's own work without acknowledging that one is doing so or without citing the original work. Articles of this nature are often referred to as duplicate or multiple publication. In addition to the ethical issue, this can be illegal if copyright of the prior work has been transferred to another entity. Typically, self-plagiarism is only considered to be a serious ethical issue in settings where a publication is asserted to consist of new material, such as in academic publishing or educational assignments." from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagiarism#In_the_arts

Pay careful attention to the last sentence and proceed as you deem appropriate.

Does that mean I can use it if I redo the whole thing? What Ive started is a rebuild of my Seaport Field with a much bigger scale, no buildings behind the park, and pretty much evry aspect greatly improved or new altogether. It just uses the same basic shape for the seating and thats it really.

I suggest taking your time with your build, and really do an over the top job with it. Thats what i'm doing cause if I make it to round 2 I want to make sure I go up against a lower player not someone who can kill me not even trying. I also would suggest waiting to post so it would be hard for someone to top your build at last minute. Thats some stuff I noticed from looking at last years group.

Honestly Star Wars is a bit overdone, and you'd get nothing original for that catergory. City isn't completely overdone, but the point of the olympics is to build outside your comfort zone. Also I have to say building in these catergories are alot more fun cause you get to be creative, and experiment, and you may find one of these topics as one you may really like.

We can do LEGO city and Star Wars. The only thing judges want with the categories is originality. Even in unoriginal themes as Star Wars you can make something involving air or summer or spring or fire.

Well seen point! It has come to my attention too, that the point of MOColympics and MOCathalon is not only to recognise talent and see great works, but also to show the masses that there is more to LEGO than Star Wars and Halo.

I need someone to challenge.
There are 212 mocers competing for 64 places in round two. Isn't that challenging enough? :)

I knew there was a few, but I didn't know there was that many! I'm not so sure about making it to round two anymore.....

Don't rush your entries everyone, you only got a week left (which is more than enough time in my opinion). Even though this is Round One, I'm not taking any chances here.

Try to put some effort into your builds and surprise the judges, this is what they want to see.

I agree. I didn't "Rush" mine, but now that you mention it, I think I could have changed a few things first before entering it

I will have to rush making my entry. I'm leaving on a short vacation during this weekend, and I won't have much time to build next week.

You just need to add your creations to the group, you don't need to add them here. Checklist: Joined Group. Add name and link in Sign up Thread. Make Creation. Add link to Group in Creation. Add it to the Group. Hope for the best!

If i changed a small sentence is it okay?

Depends on the sentence and where.

If it's in the "fourth wall commentary" (as I call it) and it's NOT the link... then sure. Anything else needs to stay as is please.

Thank you for asking.

For others, I strongly suggest having friends look over the post BEFORE you add it to the group. Heck, you could not add it to the group till the last day just to make sure everything is as you want it. Once it's added to the group, that's it. Make your changes before please.

Because then you can also interpret it as falling fall

As long as it's not been added to the group yet you can do whatever you'd like to your entry. Once it's been added to the group then it's ours... OURS I SAY! MUHAHAHA

Nope. You don't need mocpages to build. If the pages have another hiccup over the next day or so then there MAY be a day extension but as it stands, no extension.

I'm very sorry that I won't be able to enter, I had an entry half done, but with school and homework I didn't have too much time to finish. I was hoping to finish it today but I was loaded down with homework. I'll definitely watch to see how the contest progresses!

I just approved your membership and your posts are now visible. I will open the group so you can add your post and you will be allowed to participate. Our slow moderation should not be the cause of you not being able to compete. Please add your creation as SOON as you read this so that we can lock the group again. Thank you.

(Oh, and to anyone who thinks they're gonna "sneak in," I know how many creations there are and who the last one was. All other entries WILL be deleted)
