Quoting The Object of Legend
Hello! I looked at the Heroica products, which seem cool, but how is the playing experience of the game itself?
The games are fun but they are pretty quick. About 10 minutes for 1 game. One thing that was a little disappointing was that all the battles are either instantly win or lose. For example, it only takes 1 good roll to beat both the weaker monsters and the same for the stronger bosses. Another thing is that it seems like you have to go directly for the boss if you want to win because if you go explore and pick up items you will fall behind and lose. I actually made some new rules which would hopefully get rid of these problems or make them less annoying. I'll post those up here soon. Permalink
I found the rules online, and built my own game board based off LEGO's with all the weapons and such. I have noticed some of the problems you pointed out, and, like you, think it could be made into something epic! Permalink
The gameplay can be a little disappointing. If the rules were altered to be more like DnD, that would be awesome. Also, it would be awesome if you got, like, 4 of the same set and super-sized it. :D Permalink

I made up my own set of rules designed to make the game a little more exciting, I'll post them up tomorrow I think. Permalink
Hello! I've currently only acquired the Draida and Waldurk Heroica sets. As I built them and played, I remembered that the Lego Board game Atlantis treasures used many of the same pieces that are used as games spaces in Heroica. I located the game and created the 2 Heroica sections that I've included under creations. The large piece is based on 2 2x12 blue pieces with a 1x10 blue piece on either side of them. The small piece is based on a 4x4 grey piece and had the centerpiece of the Atlantis game.
I determined that the 'seaweed' entangles anyone wading through the watery path and act as strength 1 monsters.
The 2 pieces link together to the Draida board right next to the start zone. I place 2 additional of the green 'weeds' on the path and have determined that they are impassable coral. The coral can only be destroyed by locating the statue of Poseidon in the water off shore. Poseidon's trident can destroy one of the coral pieces, and Poseidon's crown can destory the other coral. Three 'seaweeds' must be destroyed to be able to reach the statue of Poseidon. A hero may only obtain one of the two treasures from the statue of Poseidon, a second hero can obtain the other treasure. Permalink

Nice work, Vern! Thanks for sharing this. I guess we will have to pick up the Atlantis game! I like it that you built whole modules which are designed to actually add right on to the existing Heroica world!
Greg and I picked up the Ninjago game, figuring to use the microfigs for heroes and monsters in Heroica as well. I'll share when we have stats created for them and an area built for them. Permalink
I've finally acquired the Fortaan set, so now I can build bigger maps.
I also picked up the Lego game Frog Rush which has 21 'Space' pieces, a dozen 'rocks' and a dozen frogs figures like the one in Fortaan. I'll be using pieces from that game to make some new Heroica sections in the future. Permalink

I don't know whether this has been brought up before but, does anyone find it strange that the characters do not get any benefits from using weapons that they are most suited for?
Yeah, I noticed that. There's no reason for, say, the Ranger to buy the bow. One rule I made up is monsters have hit points and heroes have 1 strength, 2 if they have a weapon, and 3 if they have their weapon. Another idea is the hero's ability is improved if they have their weapon (i.e. the Barbarian kills all adjacent monsters and move forward 2 spaces instead of 1). Permalink
I am currently playing that all heroes start out with no special abilities. They only get them when they get there preferred weapon. I am not happy with the sight of a druid running around with an axe :)
Also in treasure chests i'm thinking of having potions and weapons as treasure when you roll the symbol. Currently my son doesn't even go for the chests because every time he opens one he keeps getting hurt. For just two gold he doesn't think it is worth the risk.

Looks like Lego updated the herocia site recently. Has 5 new 'clickable' places on the map, which I assume means there will be more coming out. There is also a behind the scenes video. The first part is pretty boring (just showing them combining sets). But at the end the show a massive map. Unfortunately, I can't tell if it is just a ton of the currents sets together or glimpses of the new or different ones. Permalink
Hi everyone, I'm glad to see the group is still active. I've been really busy at school for the past few weeks and haven't had much time for MOCpages. I really like everyone's ideas and custom maps! Permalink
This isn't related to Heroica (except that it's a board game), but I'm making a Death Star game! You will be able to play as good or bad, use the Force, have lightsaber duels, complete objectives, and blow up worlds with the death ray! By the way, I'm gonna post the giant Heroica board I made soon. Permalink

No it's not Heroica, Ben, but it does have movement tiles, TONS of star wars 'figs, and RIDABLE VEHICLES! What if Heroica had horses, or chariots, or dragons, or stuff that you could ride, eh? Anywas, I just got Fortaan. Best board. I've already started a custom board. I'll post some new rules I made up...
I was talking about my new board game, not the Star Wars game coming out soon. But yeah, ride-able steeds in Heroica would be AWESOME!!
Ben's Idea for Halo Heroica just might work... Hmmm... Ben. You could use my Deathmatch rules, make RIDABLE WARTHOGS AND SCORPION TANKS, AND ROCK THE WORLD!!!!!
But seriously, it's a cool idea. My deathmatch rules could work to make it multiplayer, you could make rules for Warthogs, such as:
-Holds up to 3 microfigs
-Roll movement dice twice
-Turret can shoot at enemies within (#) range, rolling dice. If skull, sword/skull, you miss. If you roll Sword, you hit. If you roll shield you do critical hit.
-Turret's regular dmg is 2. A critical hit would be 3 dmg.
What do you think? Be sure to check out my Deathmatch rules, or Wave system to hold off against the Covenent!
That's cool! I started working on a prototype Halo map (The Storm from Halo 3). I also plan to make a multiplayer map for Slayer and Firefight (Your rules would be perfect for those!). Permalink
For those in the USA that do not know, Toys R US has the new Heroica Ilrion set available online, and it was available in he store in my home town yesterday as well.
The set has the Wizard, a Prince, and a Sage as characters. There is also the King who is an NPC that needs to be rescued but has no health or movement at this time.
Enemies include Zombies, the Vampire Lord, and the Giant Vampire Bat. Instead of Treasure Chests, the set has Coffins. You may not move across a coffin, instead you stop there and roll the die. You may find gold, or you might get knocked back and unleash a Vampire Bat (same stats as a regular Bat) which you must fight. Bats are strength 1, Zombies are2, the Vampire Lord is 3, and the Giant Vampire Bat is 4 with its own strength bar.
There is a new potion, the defense potion, which allows your hero to take no damage for the next turn. Permalink
Well, any content related to Heroica (example: can be a sculpture of a microfigure. Could be acceptable) and/or can be played with microfigures, hero packs, and the LEGO Die is acceptable. If it is not Heroica related, I don't really see a point. If you're asking does it have to be medieval, it can be sci fi, or any other genre you can think of. Permalink
