I know you didn't technically ask but this is the thread for this kind of stuff so...

But since it looks like we can only nominate one, I nominate Ben Cossy. :D

You can "nominate" 2 to 4 people/mocs. It's when we get to voting that you're only allowed one.

We have this discussion every year. I don't mean to offend anyone of course but LDD is a computer program. We're awarding Lego building. Now, don't get me wrong, LDD is a GREAT tool for designing mocs and figuring things out but it's still basically just a drawing. We're about the tangible here.

That being said, there HAS been an LDD moc nominated before. But to be considered it has to be a REALLY good digital design.

In short, no, there won't be an LDD category this year.

Hey guys if you do not mind, I made a new thread for Bionicle MOCs, I know that a lot of people have them so post nominees here.

Bad form dude... bad form.

I can see you've not been a part of this event before so I'm not getting "angry" so to speak, but please do not make any new threads.

Thank you.

Bionicle falls in with Scifi for the most part. If it's something that doesn't fit in a scifi theme then it can go under the misc category.

I have to be broad with the categories for a few reasons. Mainly because if I give bionicle it's own category, then I'd have to do the same for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, PotC, Prince of Persia, blah blah blah and so on.

Any bionicle just file under scifi please.

It's annual but it's always done right around Brickworld time (June, give or take). I've done it before brickworld in the past but there was just no time this year. I like it being just after Brickworld as I can concentrate on one thing at a time this way.

Had to cut down on categories this year. IF (and that's a big if) I can offer prizes (ie: get a new contact at TLG since my last contact doesn't work there anymore) I don't want to have to ask for 20 or so prizes from them. Also, if I CAN'T get Lego to sponser it like they've done in past years, I MIGHT (BIIIG might) try to cover it myself. If that's the case then again... can't pony up too many prizes on my own.

And no, you can't have a salami

That was actually a mistype from when I was getting things ready for the group. Coulda sworn I deleted it. That's what I get for trying to type this out in between calls at work.

Thanks for pointing that out though Gio! I'll go change it.

MAYBE. It's not decided yet and as things are going right now, it's leaning more towards the "NO" side. I will let you all know if there's any changes there but for now, think "no prizes."

Mr. Phipson! Mr. Phipson! I have a question! Okay, the MOCer of the Year: Is it all about the person in each age group who has the most impressive collection of builds, or is it more about the person, who in spirit and action, has done the most to promote the hobby on these pages? Just wondering what your thoughts were on the distinction. Thanks, Chief!

Yes.

It's a combination of the two. Still not sure how the hades I won that last year based on the first criteria...

I'm looking forward to turning the title over to a new AFOL for 2011!

Sure, nominate as few as you wish. And if you find more later that are worthy of nomination you can always edit your comment then. We won't start counting up nominations for a while still so you've all got time!

It's "supposed" to be join date but since the general public isn't privy to that info (say the person joined but didn't post anything for a month after creating the account) what we'll do is go by first post date.

Hello Chris just wondering:
I find really unfair there's special categories for quite everything... But NO SEA VEHICLE, so they have to be in MISCELANEOUS.
Why always spaceships? Why always starwars? Sci fi?
NO BOATS, NO SUBMARINES! :-)

Those would fall in the City category, just like historic military.

BTW, there isn't a SW category, someone jumped the gun and made that thread.

Hey Jay,

Yeah, like Eric said, those would fall under "city" for the most part. You could put them under misc if you'd like or if it's say a pirate ship, that actually falls under the castle category (since pirates are in there as well).

Just put it in one of those and if the moc is nominated I'll make sure it ends up where it needs to be.

Thanks!

Actually, the number of categories is limited. You'll notice that I lumped pretty much all sci fi and bionicle into one and then castle and pirates and other "old timey stuff" all into one as well. This was to cut down on the number of categories overall.

Photography is really part of the moccing process so it's actually part of ALL the categories.

On a personal note though, I think that photography is one of the most important parts of the moccing process and is something that I also really have to work on. But as stated before, doesn't warrant it's own category.

Thanks!

Quick clarification. If my first (and most pitiful) creation was uploaded to the 'pages on June 13th of last year, would I still be considered as eligible to be nominated for the "Best New Buy/Girl" category? I know you had briefly glossed over a form of this question earlier, but how exactly does this apply to me?

Chris sets this up very much as an Awards event "by the people for the people." As a result, categories selected are those that tend to be most popular with builders, or see the larger volume of creations. There's also a bit of history involved with Lego categories as well, and the ones selected for the MOCies are traditionally common categories in other award events (such as in other on line contests, Lego conventions, etc.).

Hmm...

I have a question on categories: are there enough ?

I'll take one example - there are many people on the site who like to build lego cars, me being juts one of them - yet I can't think of many categories that seem appropriate to nominate somebody who has built a car in. Would we nominate them for mini/macroscale, depending on the size of the car, or would it go into town/city, even though it is neither town nor city ?
Or is there simply no automotive category because Firas Abu-Jaber would by default get (and to be fair, deserve) an amount of nominations that would just overshadow every other car builder ?

I agree, I tried nominating Firas for a microscale, but apparently his builds are not microscale, but keep in mind Dan that Firas only builds in one scale, (I think its around 1/17) your 1/9 TVR would have a shot if there was a category for that :)

Most of Firas' cars would be macroscale I believe (and you're right, the dude's awesome!)

As for most cars, they would fall under the city category.

I know that people all want a specific category for their favorite thing (I even had a kid suggest a best colored clone category...) but I have to keep it as general as I can otherwise not only would I tick off some OTHER specialist category that I overlooked, but I would then be overwhelmed with 40 odd categories that I would have to present awards to. You see where this is going right?

So yeah, long story short, just pop em in the city/micro/macro categories depending on where they'd fit best.
