I seem to recall the worm has no payload.

Just check if your PC is trying to connect to an unknown website and stop it from doing so; you're the owner, you can pull the plug on the internet connection or the power supply or the router or whatever. The 1337 hax0r scr!p7 k!dd!3 who infected you has the software, but not the hardware.

In fact, if the worm isn't allowed to contact them, I remember that the hacker doesn't actually know the PC is infected and can't use it.

EDIT I don't know how much of the above I wrote is true, but I do know disconnecting your computer is a way to stop it to buy time for the repairman to come.

Have a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conficker#Removal
And this: http://www.microsoft.com/protect/computer/viruses/worms/conficker.mspx

Might be helpful.
It's not the end of the world, though.
It's just a worm. At worst, your PC will be converted into part of a botnet; send it to get repaired by a qualified repair company and POOF! No more worm.

Turning off your computer will not stop it.I am not saying the end of the world is coming(cause God will never do that).I was speaking in terms...you know...

Who said anything about stopping it?
All you need to do is buy time for someone to fix it.

OR you can just buy decent anti-bug software, Or if you can program stuff like most of us IT guys, then you just program a response worm that disables the incoming worm by bouncing the internet connection, until the worm is finally caught in a Spyware Protected section of you HDD, which is usually the WINDOWS, LINUX or MAC OS files, then your spyware just deletes it.

I'm guessing that the worm was just an April Fool's joke. Why? Because nothing really happened. I haven't heard anything about it since the 31st, so there were no alerts.

Oh, by the way, it's Apocalypse, not Apocalyps.

Thanks for pointing that out.
