If you have any questions about or need clarification on the rules, ask them here. If the answer is obvious and plainly in the rules thread, we will (if we're feeling nice) direct you to that thread.

Please read EVERYTHING carefully before asking a question.

How do we set up teams?

1. Read the rules
2. Find 4 people you want on your team and that want to be on your team
3. No more than 2 AFOL's

All right, so this will be my first year doing this, so keep in mind I only have knowledge from the rules thread, some of these questions may sound dumb.

1. Are there designated days for entries to be posted? Can the builder choose what day to post his/her creation individually?

2. What are the boundaries of your entries to a certain category? For example: if a category's name is "Death by Carrot", are you supposed to make a vig/dio of a circumstance in which you may be killed by a carrot? Or can you take that category in any direction, as long as it stays true in some way to the category name?

And 3. Are comics or stories allowed, or does the entry have to be a single build?

Will we get points taken off for ideas similar to those of other builders in the contest. For example: The topic is "movie scene" and you decide to build Helms Deep from Lord of the Rings, but before you are done, someone else posts a Helms Deep. Will you get points taken off your entry?

My Take: From previous experience, you will be likely judged by the quality of the build regardless of topic. In fact, some of the categories will be very specific and people will likely build similar, if not the same, thing.

I ask the other judges to respond to this as well.

Say the cantagory was mechs, and I had already made a mech and I was making a 2nd version. could I use it as my entry?

Nope. NEW stuff only. If something looks strangly similar to something you've already posted, we'll hear about it and you'll get a zero for your score. My advice, ALWAYS go new.

I'll concur with what Shifu said. A lot of the categories are going to be really specific (and some not so much) so a lot of people will be doing a lot of the same kind of thing. Each entry will be judged on it's own merits (and flaws).

1: Once the contest starts you can post any time you want until the closing bell on March 30th.

2: Don't worry too much about categories right now. You'll see when we post them that everything will be explained. If there's a size limit, it will say. If there's something very specific we want, it will say. You'll see.

3: Depends on the category but most could really go either way. Again, when you see the categories everything will make a lot more sense.

In the past, Phippy helped contestants with uploading problems. If this occurs when the game starts, just contact any of the judges and we'll try our best to help you. It will be posted here one way or the other.

We definitely want all your entries here. It would make it easier to track them since we anticipate around 400 entries or so to judge.

I have a few questions:

1. Is Mr. Phipperton participating as a player?

2. Were the category lists for last year's MocAthalon! deleted?

3. Will the categories be more clearly written this year?

4. Is there a plan in place this time around to provide for teams with dropout players? If not, you might consider posting a reminder/warning about that situation, as many good teams were hobbled last time around.

Thanks.

I will answer what I can.
1. No
2. The categories are different this year, however, the list from last year should still be on the 2010 MOC A page. So many threads in that group that it may be buried.
3. As clear as we can, but as you are aware, there will no doubt be questions.
4. I will ask the other judges about this and get back to you.
5. Clint Eastwood + Lee Van Cleef = Great movies.

Bones got the others nicely so I'll just leave that. As for this one, no. There's no current plan in place if someone drops out and slaps the rest of their team in the face by leaving them a player short.

I suppose one thing we could do is after the games start, if there's late comers who join up (and can't play 'cause the game's already started) that they can go on a "reserve" list in case they're needed... it's a thought.

But as always, it's a good idea to choose team mates CAREFULLY.

Anything else you got my number slacker.

Thanks!

Thanks Bones, and yeah I understand that clarity is in the eye of the beholder. I found the list, you were right, but I couldn't find the category that gave so many peole fits last time. Something about a highway through a forest.

It was Landscape:
13) Landscape
Show us the beauty of the natural world. The build must have some sort of juxtaposition. Ex: a highway running through a tree laden valley.

It would be ideal if you divide equally. However, it's entirely up to your team to decide how you divvy up the assignments.

You need to play to the strengths of your team members. Remember it is all about strategy. It is a solid place to begin, each member chooses 6 categories, but the stronger members need to be there for weaker ones. A little give and take will help you succeed. Some categories will suit some team members, but not others. That is why team bonding and communication is so important in this game.

Thank you Leda for pointing out that we have 30 new categories. So looking at last years is not going to help much. Here is an idea, if your team is set, use your time READING the rules. You may find answers to a lot of your questions. Just work out with your team who is good at what and wait until the 28th for the categories.

30 days is a LONG time, and a lot of things happen over that time frame. I think teams should be stuck with who they choose, and not allowed subs. It wouldn't be fair to the teams that have their stuff together. Besides you'd start finding people dropping out on purpose and giving the team a "fresh" guy. Not cool for those of us still in it on the 25th day begging for mercy! LMAO

I agree Heath, that is why it is important to choose your team members wisely and also for all playing to not enter into this competition lightly. If there is a chance you might not be able to participate fully then please don't sign up. You don't want to let your team members down. Unforeseen circumstances aside of course, you should let your potential team mates know right from the off that you can only do a few builds.

If we haven't posted the modern one yet could we modify it to become a mid evil church or would we have to start over?

You're on the honor system, so if you want to cheat a bit and do that you will have to live with the overwhelming guilt that would haunt you daily, knowing that you cheated ever so slightly just so you could gain an extra 5 points. I couldn't even imagine living with such guilt! Just thinking about it makes me shudder with dread for your future as a jail inmate. After all, we all know that cheating in the MOC A's is a gateway to much bigger cheating. Pretty soon you will be cheating in Uno with your Grandma, or subtracting swings from your local put-put scorecard.

I say "SHAME ON YOU SIR!".

I read the rules to be sure about this and I couldn't find it in there so here I go. It says we cannot recycle old MOCs. Does that mean if we are building the creation ex. A modern church, and one of the categories is mid evil church. If we haven't posted the modern one yet could we modify it to become a mid evil church or would we have to start over?

Sooo, what you're saying is that if you post a church we should give it 0 points? Good to know, thanks!

I'm not sure what about this sentence is so difficult to understand...

"NOTHING THAT YOU HAVE BUILT BEFORE THE GAMES START MAY BE USED AS AN ENTRY."

(The ONLY exception to this would be sigfigs)

Aw, c'mon. I really want to know what a "mid evil church" looks like. The only churches I've ever seen were only bordering on evil. (Sorry, couldn't resist, won't happen again!)

Will the categories be posted today, or tomorrow?
