Lego Fans: Friends/Siblings

Out of curiosity, do you have any FOLs (Fans Of Lego) IRL?

Do you have any siblings into Lego?

If so, do you think this is good or bad? (if Ru Corder sees this he will say, 'BAD!' :P)

I have 2 FOLs on the pages, and numerous other not here.

I have a little brother who is also into Lego.
It can be both good and bad.
Good that I can sorta help him, and hey, he's another FOL :)
Bad because he wants to use MY lego :P

Only one friend with a LEGO interest and we don't do much anymore. I kind of want all his LEGO he's stored under his bed. He's got a nice selection for one who hardly does much with it anymore.

I have one friend that I don't think he uses his Lego that often anymore, but I at least know he used to. And another friend that's into it, but we only see each other on occasion, which is at soccer tournaments every now and then. My brother used to build, but lost interest and handed down his Lego to me for my birthday. But overall, I think it would be good to at least have a few friends or siblings that are interested to keep you building.

Not all that bad if you ask me. It's not like everything you say and think is LEGO, right? You'd be seen as more sociable, but then I guess you would be seen as the LEGO kid. I don't know.

Most of my spare bricks and parts came from a family of former students of my dad. I've also gotten some from people that don't do anything with LEGO anymore that are my age. So generous and nice.

Sometimes you find MegaBloks, Tyko bricks, something with :-) on all the studs (WUT?) and sometimes you get some older faded colors, but sometimes you get lucky and there is just that one glorious piece.

I don't really know because legos are for "weirdos", so if I asked people would give me a strange look.

So that makes me a weirdo AND someone who doesn't know if anyone else in his life likes lego.

Yeah, in writing sentences. I almost got lost in there. Also, you don't just walk up to people and ask, "Do you like LEGO?" you just bring it up in a conversation of hobbies or intersts. It's still awkward, but if you are calm and don't come up as a weird kid, they'll respect you and your hobby more. I heard a story of a kid that was like that trying to get a girl to like him by trying to entice her with LEGO but was really creepy about it. Don't be like that.

I have a small room at my house and my LEGO box does not fit in my closet. Thus it is one of the first things my friends see when they walk into my room. Some give me a funny look and say "that's a lot of LEGOs". Although one time my friend came over to work on our reverse engineering project in which we had to pick a toy to take apart and improve. I convinced her that we should take apart a LEGO set and improve it so she came over and we got my LEGO out and improved the set. Bear in mind that we were both in high school so it was a little awkward. Most of my friends don't know about my LEGO hobby though and my family thinks I'm too old for it.

Well hello there! Finally, a TFFOL had the courage to say something in our group. We may have more that are part of the group, but they don't say anything. That seems like it was a novel idea. Did you get a good grade for it, or was that seen as just cheating since LEGO is a construction toy? Sorry to hear that your family doesn't support you. It's already bad enough that you are thought of as being to old for LEGO, but then also being a 'she,' it just sounds like you are plain awesome!

Thanks! We did get an A on that project because my teacher really liked it. It was one of my favorite projects in that class because I actually got to use LEGO for a project in high school which is really unusual. I also got a new LEGO set out of it and my mom paid for it, which never happens.

Yea my family doesn't understand it either. Since my mom reads a lot I'm tempted to have her read the Cult of Lego because it explores the many aspects of the LEGO hobby and why adults keep building. It also has some really cool pictures of MOCs . I also want her to read LEGO: A Love Story because it is the story of an adult who had built with LEGO as a kid and then had gone into his dark ages but when he was 30ish he got back into the hobby. He goes to BrickCon, LegoLand, the LEGO factory in Denmark amongst other things. It's a really good book. If you haven't read these books, I recommend reading them. I'm thinking that if my mom reads these two books she might understand the hobby better.

Both of those are great books. I think what got my parents fine with Lego is when I told them just how many adults are into Lego and the fact that there are so many other people besides me that are also into Lego. I guess that way they don't think I'm the weird one when there are alot more than just me. :)

Yea I don't think my parents quite realize that. I'm also going to try to get at least one of them to go to one of the public days at BrickCon this year to see all of the things AFOLs make. That might help.
