45 kids in the school. We have classes of about 3-7 kids.

Man, I thought my old private school (RIP OLA) was small, but yours is just 45. We only had 200 at the most during the 35 year lifespan of the place.

WOAH!Your school sounds awesome though! Well, this year we go a few exchange students, bringing us up to about 50. My principal is trying to double the school to 100, so he's opening up a middle school... I don't mean to be rude, but that isn't the smartest idea. The kinds of things we talk about in class are not appropriate for those grade schoolers... for example, just the other day we were taking notes in chemistry on naming substituents in carbon chains when somehow we ended up talking about would a person be charged with murder for accidentally putting their babies head in an electric meat grinder... yeah.

Well actually, that was with a middle school included. Two story building with about 20 rooms for everyone. I loved that school because I practically group up there since my dad was the main math teacher for 28 years, and we never lived far away from it. Then after it being open for 35 years, it shut down at the end of the 09-10 year because of the economy. :'( RIP OLA.

Makes sense, less peer pressuure to lose your old ways at home. Even private schoolers are more likely to not do anything with LEGO anymore. I've noticed that in my time here on MOCpages that there are lots of home schooled kids on here, makes it kind of hard for me to relate to them.

I've never been to someone's page and seen "Put this on your page if you go to private school!" and then have a poorly exicuted picture made from text next to it, only home schooled. I don't know what private school you go to, but the one I was at, only two of us were still involved with LEGO, and he only joined MOCpages to basically bother me cyberly, same with YouTube. I was just trying to make the point that there is still peer pressure in private school because there is more than just family members with you, and people can distract you from what it is you do, or who you really are.

I've only been in public school one year my whole life, and I have always felt as the outsider. I'm an only child, have gone to Lutheran Private Schools for 11 years, dad is a high school math teacher, only one other kid my age in the neighborhood (And he never does stuff outside anymore.), don't play video games, have no need for Myspace Facebook Twitter, and am the kid whole still has and plays with LEGO. So yeah, I know how an outsider feels.

Well I got to public school over seas. And I feel like an outsider when kids at my school tease me saying " wow, you play with lego, what a dork. Who still plays with toys,(snickering)." Yeah,I would glady switch schools with someone, especially when I get teased by italians! And I don't understand them! That is why I stop coming on here, because people at my school tease me so much that I basicly forgot lego, sucks to be me.

I understand where your coming from, but that is quite rude to make a general assumption like that. If you said, something like "a lot of private schools" , or "the private schools I went to...", I wouldn't have written that, but the way you phrased it was very rude (to me, anyway). If you must know, I know several people in Toronto who go to private schools like U.C.C, or Metro Prep, who are on my robotics team, and still build Lego. My friends Michael and Sam, who both go to private school, still play with Lego, but they haven't joined the pages... yet. All the kids at my school (all 45) know I build with Lego, and they are cool with it. So, maybe in the schools that you went to there is a lot of peer pressure, but I can assure you, there is not much in mine. Public school is very different though...

Oh, The pages! Yeah, but I wouldn't say peer pressure. I,again, have friends I know that check out the pages. They don't have accounts, (I dunno?) Maybe for other people, but not for the people I've met. Either they are too busy, or afraid people will hate their creations. But your right, it would look kind of stupid is somebody had a private school sign! :)

Well I came up with peer pressure.
Public: Up to 4000, sometimes. A ton of peer pressure. Yeilds 10%
Private: Depends on what type of school.
~Private-Private: Up to 1000 kids sometimes, similar to Public School. Yeilds 5%
~Private-Christian: Up to 450 kids sometimes, more similar to Home School than Public. There is more understanding, and just overall respect for likes and dislikes. Yeilds 25%
Home: 1-3 kids, on average. Only peer pressure would be kids in the neighborhood. Age also makes a difference, too. Lots of understanding, respect, and support, especially from family. Yeilds 60%

Well, MC Legoboy gave a pretty solid explanation. In public school, there is a lot of peer pressure from kids to be cool and (stupid) adult-like. Texting on phones, dressing like wh*** (excuse my language 8( ) so on so forth.... I would know, I had to deal with kids telling me I was a loser for playing with LEgo.... MC Lego is right. There is a lot of people who put you down for playing with LEGO. In private school, it's probably that some are like public school kids, and others are just to caught up in studies to really worry or play with LEGO. So, if you're home-schooled, then you're not under as much pressure because no-one is really there to judge you. What, like 2 other kids are really going to bother you? Your number seems right. But again, it does depend on the private school :)

Peer Pressure. (<-Just to clarify) I can't believe we forgot about those guys. AFOLs are a big part of this site. Good for you for bringing them up. Although now that I think of it, maybe we were just focusing on TFOL considering this is a TFOL group. But good point though.

And I dont see why you should worry if poeple laugh at you because you play with LEGO, Sean Kenney is an adult and he builds with LEGO.

Humpf, Well at my school, thats only the beggining. In my middleschool, they include 8,9 and 10, graders. When I was in 5th grade my friend( who was new and everyone teased him before they knew he played with lego) built his science project out of lego, it was awesome! But who decides to come? the 8 and 9 graders, They pushed him, calling him a dork and his project went bam! And then he gets a f in science. I can see where it's hard for people who go to public school to play with lego( like me and my friend) You just have to ignore it, even though it's not easy.

He made a profession out of it, so nobody is going to make fun of him unless they have no common sense. I think that it shouldn't matter. What do the people in that group do as hobbies? What if you think that they're hobby is stupid just because you don't like it? I say you get your friend out of their group, and become outists of the fads and trends of the world, and not listen to what people tell you to do with your life if you know you won't enjoy it. The ages on the boxes mean nothing, LEGO is for all.

2 words, peer precure(I don't think I spelled those 2 words right). But don't forget that there are alot of AFOL's in college or who are done with school all together.

I agree with Jason. Lotsa people I know homeschool and (used to) play with LEGO. I kno no one outside of my homeschooling friends that play with LEGO

I have to change another school. AGAIN! My school life has kind of been terrible. When I first went to a real school, I went to a Private Lutheran School. It taught PK-8. I went there for K-6 and then left because my mom got a new job that wasn't near the school. I didn't get to "graduate" with my elementary friends. Then I go to the school my dad teaches at which taught 6-12. I was there from 7-10. Then the school shuts down. I go to Public schhool for the first time for 11th Grade and it wasn't that bad, and I got to still be at the same school with my dad. Then he gets a new job at a Private Christian School and we can't afford to send me there for my final year of school. I now have to go to the school I'm zoned for and they don't have the classes I want. I can't be in band because I refuse to do marching band and you are forced to be in marching band if you want to take a music class. They don't have any of the creative classes I want and AP 3D Portfolio is still questionable. I have to take an Drawing class and I hate those because I am always restricted from creative freedom because I have to do everything the way it's supposed to be. The school doesn't even offer a study period for me to work on my AP Calc and Honor Physics! Why can't I go to the Media Center and work on my homework? I don't even have a home school I can return to because they're remodeling my elementary school and my first high school is now a small College. I won't even get to graduate with any of my friends. I don't really make any friends in my class when it comes to Public School. They're all either older or younger. There are times when I feel like I should just do everything virtually like one of my friends.

I go to public school, but have always thought it would be nice to be home schooled for a time. One of my friends (Who loved Lego!) went with me to a public school in 6th grade. He got his mom to home school him. I had lost contact with him for about a year, until I saw him at our local library. He invited me over to his house, and boy, was I in heaven! Lego everywhere! He had a huge castle layout he had built, every single Mars Mission kit set up in a diorama, tons of Bionicles, hundreds of minifigs, and a lot more! I unfortunately have lost touch with him again. He was a cool kid.

have you noticed that aot more homeschoolers use lego then public shcoolers?

A lot of its because us public schoolers don't have a lot of time on our hands. I usually don't have more than 30 minutes of spare time because of homework, band and Cross Country.

I wanted to be in Jazz Ensamble, but they said, you can't do that unless you are also Marching. Well, I could not do the practices after school because I need to go home, I was enroling at the school two weeks before school started which is the worst time to join Marching anyway, and I want to have fun playing my instrument, not make it a committment that I would be stressing out over. Of course, I play Trumpet, and they're always needing more of those so even if my parents and I were to raise enough stink to get me into Jazz, I'd be seen as That Kid and one with a valued instrument.

Ah I see. Yea joining their marching show would've been pretty tedious. I think marching is fun...but I'm a percussionist so that's pretty much a given. Jazz ensemble is really fun too! Especially when you get a really cool instructor..

That is not a public school. That is a charter school, more likely private school, and probably a christian one at that. A public school would have K-5 and then it would split to a middle school going 6-8. There wuld also be a few thousand kids and your class would have been split into groups of 25 kids.

Eh, I find that hard to believe. The county I live in has a school for half of the whole county just to make it a big enough size. Unless you're in Colorodo or Wyoming or some other state with a very low population and distant cities, I find it hard to believe a school would be small just because the town is.
