Like what?! Debate can go on forever with no end in sight depending on the subject. I think we need to leave the politics, and religions out of this, because they will never end. But seriously, what do we debate about?

Definately for purism as can be.

Personally, I am against LEGO purism.

However, there really isn't anything wrong with building purist. I shall keep that at that...

But, what I think is bad about LEGO purism is that purists tend to be anti-non purist. That is a problem for me especially, being an LDD only builder. Can I not build something and have no anti-LDD comments?

besides LDD, which is another debatable topic, LEGO purism tends to disincourage creativity. Lets face this, as it is a fact: use of non-LEGO materials is creative.

Now, it is the builders right to use non-lego materials. Usually they look pretty good, too!

In fact, one of the best known builders on here, our very own Mark Kelso, used some non lego in one of his creations. It is still a LEGO creation, right? And a good one at that...

Now, megablocks are a whole different topic. I am 100% against megablocks. So much, even, that I am making sure I am not capitalizing it.

I tend to not really enjoy LDD Creations because to me it almost seems as though not using all the creativity you have, and I prefer building by hand, I had a hard timegetting LDD to work, but I do agree that some things look pretty cool, and you are given unlimited pieces and many colors some people may not have. I don't have things against all types on Non-purist MOCs, just the ones where every other piece is a personal mold or a Brickarms/Forge. I do see what you mean, after all LDD is created and produced by LEGO, correct, why are you not aloud to post the creations in Purist groups? And I am, too 100% against all thing MEGA BLOKS, TYKO, that one brand with :-) on the studs.

I am part of a big question in the Purist Group and it is, can you edit the picture to change minifigure expressions, or is that just a digital decalling of faces? I never messed with the LEGO pieces, but it does bring up the question, is this still decalling?

Actually, anti-LDD makes me so angry I cannot even express it. I mean, people are so against it that they don't even consider that the MOC might actually be good. People are SO against LDD that they go out of their ways to hate it. And I ask: why?

One time, on a contest, not long ago, A judge gave me a bad score simply because I used LDD. There was nothing wrong with the creation. DEDUCTING POINTS FOR USING LDD WAS NOT IN THE RUBRIC. Seriously, what gives? There is NO REASON that you should go out of your way to dislike a MOC just because it is digital.

LDD is developed and produced by LEGO itself. Though it does have unlimited parts that are pre organized, there are some serious drawbacks.

There are very few varietys of pieces availiable.

There are a huge lack of techniques.

These are pretty big drawbacks. Wouldn't it be hurting the builder to use it?

Um, well, there are cases when that is the only option. But does anyone ever consider that? NO!

Plus, isn't it the builder's choice to use it? If they use it, the only ones getting harmed are themselves. Not the bi***y viewer that cannot stand to view anything that is not real, but virtual.

Maybe they marked you down because LDD doesn't have the best viewing or isn't all that good looking to the eye.

So, this never really turned into a debate, but you know, at least we got to vent a bit.

I'm not a fan of it. Especially the minifigures. I've drawn on a 2 x 2 tile before, but it was for a Theology project, and I drew the Ten Commandments on the tile so Moses could have easy to carry tablets. It's not on MOCpages as it was not all LEGO, and I never have drawn on Lego pieces before or since then; it was only the one time.

Well the question never stated that we were debating over the themes LEGO has produced. I also am a bit of an artist and drew this awesome orintal training facility and littered it with a battle of red and black stickfigure ninjas, also drawn a ninja cat, ninja ninja, even a ninja baby. Only drew one pirate in a sketchbook I have with all those other pictures.

Then how come we're debating about pirates or ninjas, and off roading cars or sports cars? How come we're saying what our favorite movies are, or what our favorite type of music is? Not everything on this website is about LEGO. The place where LEGO has true domain is where the MOCs are, but the groups are where the people have true domain and the freedom to say what they please, under MOCpages jurisdiction of course.

True, his shot can not be caculated in real life. Saying this legolas gives away the effect of "realness" and takes it's turn on fantasy but Gandalf can be "fake" but he seems more real.

If anyone ever notices Heroes always win, Why? Because they have "fake" unreal abilities.( spin webs, fly, invisibility etc.)
The villain always have fancy gadgets or robots.
Except for sandman and the spiderman series.

Mix matching, using decals ruins the whole "lego" effect. When you mix match you use creativity, which makes you a better builder.

Though I use decals and am not a purist, mix and match wins. I only use decals when I don't have the right torso, and mix and match actually requires skill

The flesh colors are only for licensed themes. I used to not like them, but eventually I'd gotten so used to them, that I didn't care anymore, and they are the main color for humans in my LBHA creations now. I do like the yellow color as it is classic LEGO, but I also like the flesh colored guys, and it isn't nonpuritst to use them, so I don't see the big deal. What I really hate are the white highlights in the eyes. The minifigures look to cartoonish now. I don't mind the Clone Wars eyes though because with me, I put Star Wars sets on display in action scenes, and it is nice to know which minifigures go in which scene.

Back to your subject. I don't like when people through all the different colored faces in the same MOC without a good reason. If they're all the same human form, then keep them the same color to look right. That's why I have clones have yellow skin in my LBHA stuff.

Please don't ask me what LBHA is, just go to my home page.

That is only in the movies, Peter Parker had to build web shooting devices into his suit, and keeps refills for the web in his belt. I too go for villains because not only do they seem more realistic, they tend to look really cool. Perfect examples, Darth Maul and Savage Opress. They are my favorite all time Star Wars characters, and they're the ones who are villains. Go villains! ]:)

responding to the old, old post on purists....

Advantages of purism:

1. A forced way of creativity.
What I mean by this, is that because you cant mangle pieces when you are a purist, you are forced to come up with brilliant new methods for building.

2. Surviving pieces!
From what I've seen, when pieces are mangled, It becomes impossible to use them again. This devalues the piece because it's usability is ruined. Mainly, the reason why Legos are so cool is because they can be taken apart and rebuilt. Removing that function is to remove the fun from lego!

3. Staying true the the company.
Since lego is clearly the most superior building block company, why give your business to other companies (like megablock)! Support Lego by not supporting other companies.

That's all I can think of for right now.

I recently just presented a Photography essay on the arguementative topic of Teens with LEGO. I Obviously supported the idea and was able to get people to agree. I was happy once it was over, too. I get nervous when it comes too public performances, except when I'm playing my trumpet. Probably because I'm more focused on the music than the people.

Well its also alot about how Lego markets their products. No one in highschool will think it's cool to play with Lego because whenever Lego advertises it's products, they try to appeal to a younger kids. If Lego marketed it's products more like The Modular buildings line and technic line, then they would deffenitivly see an increase in popularity in older kids. After all, whenever most people think lego, they usually think about the sets made for younger people, as Lego advertises them more.

I think people make fun of teens who play with LEGO because they want to feel like their cooler and older.
Yes, so true! I also think that a lot of people only make fun of it because others do. Like some of my friends think they're cool, but like around other people its all "lame" and stuff.

Good point. They really should try and change their marketing strategy

People may also think LEGO is not cool because the last memory they have of it was playing with a set and not actually creating their own thing so they think we play with them as sets than collectpieces for MOCs and such.

Quoting MCLegoboy !

Ha, I play the trumpet too!
