Some of you may have been in the TFOL Private Club in times past, and if you have, you probably know that they have since moved to an official forum system.

Having said that, I'm sure you can probably guess what's coming next.

I have come to truely detest MOCpages' messaging system, and I think it's time we moved to an alternative. I've got the forum hosting website picked out, I've got a friend who may be able to make some banners and web-art for us (really pro stuff, by the way), and all I need now is your feedback.

Specifically, would you all mind doing this change? It wouldn't mean completely abandoning MOCpages, nor even abandoning this group. It would only mean that we would be moving our conversation. Trust me, the switch will be worth it in the long run.

If you have questions, please post them below, along with your feedback about if you think this forum is a good idea, along with why you think so.

So you're saying we should move all our convo to a new website, abandoning our convo here, all because you detest a messaging system I have never had an issue with? :/

Edit: Just wanted to point out also the fact that, lets be honest, we haven't been posting many creations here for the last few months. You take away the convo here, this group will die.

I think we should stay, to be honest. MOCpages might not be perfect but it does offer both creation hosting and convo. It's also hard to recruit new talent on a separate forum, whereas here there's tons of MOCers and plenty of mech-ers that might want to join our ranks.

Go make the page if you must, but I'm happy here.

This group goes through phases of activity and inactivity, right now I think we're coming off of the latter. If everyone still feels strongly about conversation staying here, I won't stop you. But I really think that we would be better off on a forum.

If worse comes to worse, maybe we could keep conversation here and have a forum offshoot, where more conversation could take place.

And I don't think that this group will die, even if we move our convo away. I would still be approving new members and allowing them to post creations in this group.

As I said to Jak, we could just keep the current convo here and start up an offshoot convo on the forum. We could still comment here, talk here, bring in new members, but we could also have the diversification that a forum offers.

If you're thinking I'm talking about an LMB-esque forum, you'd be wrong. I'm talking a classic forum. Maybe some of you haven't been on any other forum than the LMBs, but trust me, a real forum is much different and much more fun.

I may end up making the forum simply to show you guys the possibilities. If/when I do, I'll post the link for everyone to see. :)

So heres my objection. I for one, and probably others, do not have tine for a group AND a forum. Since the Group is allready established and since i don't have time to sin up for the forum, I vote Against the forum. Its both a matter of Personal Preference AND- more importantly- General Convenience. General Convenience for Everyone. That is all.

If it comes down to a matter of time, than you don't have anything to worry about. I'm not asking that you post and watch the forum 24/7, but rather that you keep up and post when you can. That's kinda the basic principal of forums...

As I've said, I think once you SEE the forum setup, you'll be more inclined to want to at least join, if not switch our convo over to it.

IDK about this move, Bio. It sounds cool, but what site would be hosting us? And personally, I'm content with the MOCpages forum system, except that there is no private messaging.

I'm currently using Forumotion.com, which allows me to approve or deny users, meaning there would be very little chance of spam. And that system allows for private messaging.

I'm very close to finishing customization of the forum, all I need to do now is order a banner from a friend of mine, as well as create some rule posts and such. Even if everyone is opposed to this idea, I am having fun organizing it. I'll post the link to the forum when it is completed and ready for habitation.

I'd say I'm for it, believe it or not I had actually created a website for war world a year or 2 back, but the Lego forums wouldn't let me post about it. (unfortunately I've lost the address to it, if i find it I'll post it here) But i definitely think that'd be a worthwhile venture.

Well arik, we are called "The Elite MechanIers" here, so I see no reason not to bring that over to the forum banner. We've had the "Mechanier vs mechaneer" chat a while back, and mechanier won because, well, it looks cooler and functions exactly the same as mechaneer.

I agree, but LEGOs? Really?

Also I would like to ask Andrew if the whole page will follow this theme, because I've seen forums where the header is all awsumsauce but then the page itself is kinda... ugly? I assume you've thought of this but I felt the need to bring it up anyways.

I dunno. honestly I think that having several Mechs might clutter up the background a bit too much. well, I dunno, it could work.

true. and I have to say I prefer the Grey Wolf to the Goliath any day. but I think the Goliath might look better than the others in that particular picture.

I'm afraid adding a lego model to the background of the forum banner will not be an option no matter how cool it would look. I didn't actually make the banner, a friend of mine did.

Then how would people know it was a LEGO forum? That banner could be for a gokarting group, for all I know.

Btw, I may, MAY, be able to put pics of mechs in. I MAY be getting Photoshop soon. If not, I can try with GIMP (believe it or not, I am one of those arty/ICTy people).

Well, anyone with a semblance of common sense would read the headline directly below the banner, mentioning us being located here on MOCpages. :P Just trust me, I don't think people not knowing we are a lego forum will be a big deal.

Also, you can try to add mechs into the background if you want, but I probably won't use the modified picture unless you do a really, REALLY good job.

Seeing as how MOCpages is deteriorating, (mainly the recent activity bar) I'm going to be stepping up the speed of this project. If I can stay focussed on it, I should have it up and available to everyone by the end of this week.

Once I share the link, I'll be sending a comment to every member of this group, letting them know about the forum, and asking them if they'd like to join.

Upon joining and achieving full membership, admins will receive two rank-ups to the rank "Noble Member", and moderators will receive one rank up to the rank "Honored Member". Normal members will progress through ranks as normal.

Participation is not mandatory, but it would be greatly appreciated.

I've been working on Smilies Administration.

Yes, that is an official role and I have to fill it.

Also, a quick note to anyone planning on joining, things will still be a bit rough around the edges, as I'm trying to bring this forum to functionality, not the pristine, shining glory I hope it will one day be.

I'd like a quick show of hands about who is planning on joining. Likely, we'll get more members once I send out all the comments to our current mechaniers, but I'd still like to know who wants to join right off the bat. Hopefully when some of you see the forum, you'll be much more inclined to want to join.

Well, just so we're on the same page, I wouldn't actually be moving our conversation there. The forum would act as its own unit, connected to this group and MOCpages as a whole, but still allowing other people to join, if they so desire. I'm not sure how you could judge that there isn't going to be anything else to do there when you haven't even seen the layout yet, much less experienced the vibe I'm going for.

Also, I'm not sure if anyone will be interested in this, but I've got a Roleplay section set up, and if I can garner enough interest in it, I'll be running a roleplay.

It shouldn't take too long, I've just got to activate your account before you can do anything. And assuming I'm online at the time you sign up, I should be able to activate your account fairly quickly. However, in the time it takes to activate your account, you can read through the rules, help threads, and any announcements I may be putting up.

Perfect segue to...

I won't be online for most of tomorrow, unfortunately, as I've got a youth group event happening from evening tonight to Sunday afternoon. Thus, I don't think I'll be sharing the link to the forum until late Sunday or even Monday, unless I can wrap up the modifications I'm working on. Even if I share the link today, you may be waiting for account activation, and I won't be able to activate anyone who joins on Saturday or early Sunday.

Quoting ariklego ...The Director!
a roleplay? okay, NOW you've got me interested. :P

a roleplay revolving around Mechs... I can't wait.
While I was specifically thinking about mechs and robots as a center to the roleplay, the forum doesn't need to revolve ENTIRELY around them. I've set it up so we've got a Minecraft section, a general gaming section, as well as an off topic section, all for talking about things other than mechs.

It's going to be more of a forum for the people of "The Elite Mechaniers", rather than a forum designed exclusively with "Mech Chat" in mind.

Also, I'll be giving out the link later rather than sooner, as I'm still working out some details with the forum rules.

As you can clearly see, I've returned from my little trip. I've still got a few more adjustments to make to the forum, I may be posting the link tonight or tomorrow. I'll be checking to activate accounts a few times per day, so hopefully I'll get around to activating everyone in a time-efficient manner.

Nice forum. Plus you got around to openning your Adventure Map for testing. I'll have to see more when I get accepted.

I would like to know how much control you have over the forum, however. Does Forum Motion handle logins and passwords? Or is that down to you?

Anyways, I second Jak's motion. It's just plain annoying.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, here. You don't actually make a forumotion account when you register for this forum, it's a forum-dependant thing. As for logins and passwords, I don't believe I have any control over anyone's passwords, however I can change your username if needed. If you're concerned about private information being shared, there are only two remotely personal pieces of information available to me: your email and your IP address. The IP address only shows up on a private panel viewable only to me, and only when you are browsing the forum. Naturally, the only other information I can aquire is the information that you give me (sans password).

I hope that by now everyone can trust me with this information. If you need confirmation, I promise that I will never misuse any information that becomes available to me through running the forum.

Hopefually that was informative. :)

So I've signed up for the forums. Been a bit on edge of late, and a lot on my plate. Sorry I've not been active.

I'm going to be sending out comments to everyone in this group who hasn't joined the forum yet, informing them of it and also inviting them to join. I'll be doing this soon, but not quite yet. Consider this a final reminder to everyone who hasn't joined yet. :P

I've been meaning to, but I need to ask my dad about it. I also have to help my bro make a MOCpages account so he can post his Bionicle Transformers... Don't worry, I'll get to it eventually, Bio.
