ipod touch 2G VS iphone 3G

Ok so I'm selling my ipod touch 2G to get the iphone 3G. As I was looking at prices I noticed that the ipod was $230 and the iphone was $200. Why is the iphone cheaper? Does anyone here know?

I think it's only if you already have a 2-year contract with at&t, also, maybe cause' the 3G has more screw-ups.
