my group, Tons of Guns and Lego Firearms are pretty big

I think it would be great if we metaphorically "bought out" the groups that had a creation count lower than 200, and consolidated their creations, leaving a couple big groups.

Yes you guys are probably right. I think we should consolidate these small groups. Here are my picks for the groups that stay so far:

Guns Smiths (of course) as our main

Tons of Guns and Lego Firearms

And maybe a few others. Oh and by the way I am getting out of all these small groups and those groups like the masters, etc.

I have now consolidated all my groups down to 5. Here are my groups that I am staying in:

Gun Smiths
Tons Of Guns
Lego Firearms
Gunnerz RBG Group
The Sub Machine Gunners

All of my other memberships have been deleted. So please don't invite me to anymore groups. This makes my life a lot easier on mocpages instead of keeping track of so many groups. This also will help your groups by having me become more active in them. I know this is kinda sudden and drastic, but I think this is the wave of the future for my mocpages enjoyment.

Thank you for taking action; I had already started to remove my creations from groups that had few members because the group box on my pages would interfere with the large pictures I put up. There should only be a few dedicated gun groups. One main one, and maybe categorical ones like shooting, non-shooting, SMGs, rifles, pistols, etc. Even then it can get complicated, but at least each gun MOC would be in a max of 2 or 3 groups. Good move.

Here are my guidelines on this whole group thing. Personally, I think we should have the 5 groups I am in stay as our main groups. I refuse to get rid of Lego Firearms, because my contests are absolutely great! Our last one had 13 entries! So I think it would be in our best to keep these 5 groups so we could have a little variety in our comments. Keep gun smiths, tons of guns, lego firearms, gunnerz, and the sub machine gunners. Those I think are the 5 best around.

I am debating on if I should change my group into one of these catergorized groups as you guys are talking about. I would like any ideas on that please.

There, Lego Firearms is now changed into a RIFLE ONLY group. So please add only your rifles into this group. I plan on having this as our main rifle group along with the other groups for other catergories.... man that was a lot of working changing it over!

Chris, I think you should change your group Tons Of Guns into a specialized group like I did to mine. It would make it a lot easier for us to keep track of group stuff, and you could still keep your group. Trust me, it's a great idea. :)

Absolutely, which is why it's a great idea to contact the group owners themselves, as it's not really a crucial issue.

Even if we do contact Sean I don't think the request will go through because it would be considered discrimination I'm pretty sure and we would risk the Gun Smiths being deleted. Say this does go through and we get rid of the small groups what would happen when someone makes a new group? It would just end up getting deleted because it would only have about 3 people in them. The only other approach to this would be, as Bin Dover said, to contact the owners of the groups and tell them about this whole situation and ask them if they could delete their groups. But the consequence with doing this is that we would again risk the Gun Smiths being deleted for hatred or this group get a bad reputation.

What we need to do is contact the others and ask them to join us as we are consolidating the gun groups and give them the option to keep their group. Always be considerate, but we can't please everybody. Give them a list of reasons to join us...access to the largest collection of Lego guns and also by type. The ones by type are easier to browse and this one is easier to grasp just how many guns have been made.

We don't have too, most of the groups are public, and by having a chosen messenger who posts a comment requesting them to join us is all it really takes, the private groups are almost always smaller anyways.

Perhaps Bohdan or Jack would be up to the task.

Well technically I'm a retired MOCpage member... So I don't think I would be qualified I was just reading my e-mail when I came across this conversation. So maybe Chas, Jack, or someone trustworthy could handle this job. But if you over do it and get this group deleted I'm gonna be so mad... Who ever is gonna do the job, just politely ask them to join the group if they say no then the answer is no.

Exactly, just a polite statement describing the stiuation, then a simple question asking them to join your group. Nothing rude or disrespectful.

well whose going to talk to those groups while taking lots of criticism

I will take care of it. I have prepared a post for all of the groups.

"I, as a representative of the super-group "Gun Smiths", am requesting that your group should consider joining ours as part of a consolidation movement designed to reduce both server usage and speed the access of quality guns across MOCpages. By joining our group, you should request that your members transfer their creations to the group, as many already have, and remove the group when everything has been transferred. We do recognize and have put much thought into the subject of specialty groups, such as categorized firearms, and have several categories within the group that would allow you to retain your group identities.

Sincerely~"Gun Smiths"

Hold on there guys. We already have a few specialized groups like mine and the submachine gunners. So they probably shouldn't be deleted. With these specialized groups you don't need to send out all those messages. Just leave those other groups you don't want a part of. I still believe in the 5 group thing for specific gun types.

Why was this conversation even brought up? It's never gonna happen like Communism. People can't just get along in other words not everyone is nice. Some of the nosy people won't go for this. Why can't we just ignore the little groups? Sure they are a waste but as time goes on there will be more gun groups to worry about.

ahhh yes thank you brave solider you will be remembered as a hero even if you do get banned in the process!

No... actually I'm pretty sure this would get us all banned because we were part of this...

Let's use a real world example: Cuba is a small country, so cleary it should be part of Mexico. Luxembourg is even smaller; it should join with a nearby country. I would give more examples, but I can't think of any right now. In other words, this idea would fail miserably. Look at all the Star Wars and Halo groups made by 6 year olds. Combining all groups of a specific theme is just as likely as a central world government. It won't work.
You logic is flawed. I now agree that we should leave them alone, but your examples are on a much larger scale, and are not completely on the internet as this is. Perhaps a central world government won't work in reality, but gathering groups on a specific site is much more realistic and can be accomplished. However, let us just leave them be and join/quit groups by personal decision.

Here is my opinion on this whole topic. Darcy, if you don't like all those messages, just get out of those groups. I personally like the idea of specialized groups like my ALR and others. Just leave all the groups you don't like. You have that option.

So do you think it would be wise to delete all the other gun group links from the group? Like you know so it doesn't encourage people.

It's a great idea, and guys, even if i posted in every single gun group, there is nothing offensive in that, and the Idea isn't cruel, I would guarantee that Sean would not believe it to be a horrible idea as well. Besides, it's a request, not a demand. Basically everyone in here needs to man up and understand the lack of consequences of the entire issue...

Hold on there cowboy. We aren't telling you that you should join EVERY group. Join the 5 best specialized groups. Look the solution to this is simple.... DON'T JOIN THE GROUPS YOU DON'T WANT TO. It's as plain as black and white. Also, don't slam other group members just because some don't agree with you. Keep it cool please.

Besides, why are we even fighting over this. Joining a group should be left up to the builder themselves. I think this is kinda pointless to fight over a bunch of small groups. Do what you want but going through all this is not necessary.

almost nearly precisely my point, I personaly am in like 3 groups, and am only active in this one, I could care less if there were 10000 groups. To me, it would seem ideal to have an easily accessible index of every lego gun in MOCpages.

i think the problem is that there are more unexperienced builders trying to fit in and make their own group. and the more they do that, the more other people will want to make their own group, thus resulting in people you've never heard of asking to join their group with a total of 1 member. does that make sense to you?

I liked the idea Pybrick had on his own homepage. He put up pictures of the 5 gun groups he belongs to and put links to those groups up. I did that too and I think its a great idea. Maybe we should all do this? I don't know, I am just throwing ideas out to help everyone.

Well, the best way to put up the pics is to use a site like photobucket. Then you can use the direct link and copy it into the MOCpage picture code.

You didn't miss any of the large groups on your homepage. Now on changing your group. I think you should become specialized like my group. You could make it a machine gun group. That would be kinda interesting to see. Or you can change it into something else. It's up to you though.

I think I'll change it to just firing guns. Thats all anyone makes anyway. And, I'm working on a new pic for the homepage, so stay tuned and tell me if you like it when I put it up.
