When Gods Fall: Chapter 2: The Fall

[Capries]

A blasted heat amidst the icy desert served as the point of impact for Capries' escape pod. The Forsight was overrun by savages. He, it's captain, had abandoned ship. In the escape, he'd broken his leg and dislocated his shoulder. Things were not looking good.

By the smoke on the horizon, it appeared as though he was not the only one worse for wear. His ship must have crashed. Pity.

Capries refocused his attention to the transmitter. The sky, literally torn open to the empty space above, gave him the perfect oppurtunity to contact help from the Vangaurd.

"Here's hoping it comes at all..."

Kor checked his gear for the billionth time. He'd was so eager to get to the crash site he thought he'd explode. He quickly twisted some dials on his examination gauntlets and changed some settings on his radiation suit. Now (he thought) he was ready.

Ghaile tapped something into the intercom above Iiko's head.

"Haro, go sub-sonic NOW. We've got a Protocol Herald on our hands. We need to get the auth-codes for lethal weapons from High Command. Now, get me the public access."

There was the noise of frantic fumbling on the other end, and then an ear-piercing shriek of static.

"This is Commander Ghaile. We have a possible Great Being excursion. Treat all non-natives at the site as potential Great Being threats, I repeat, treat all non-natives at the site as potential Great Being threats."

There was the roar of engines soon after, and the abrupt decelaraction of the shuttle as it went sub-sonic.

Enias began to internally organise all those memories he'd extrapolated from J'krel's mind, simply as a way to pass the time on this long trek.

It seemed that these creature were at war with the Beings. Unlikely as it seemed, but they were actually surviving against the most powerful force in the galaxy.

The ship that crashed was not their's, it turned out. It was a Great Being ship, carrying some sort of map to this planet. The bhakari had taken it by force, using their own interstellar technology to take back what was their's - the map.

This map was incredibly vague. Enias had to concentrate very hard to gather as much as he could about this "map".

A picture formed in his head - A night-black pyramid, and a name; K'telmunkh Fall.

((Just a little back story. I'll reveal more later on. Otherwise, we're at the shuttle.))

[Iiko]

"I- W-what?? Threats?! But, the Great Beings surely aren't threats, they made us!"

Ghalie whipped at the Ko-matoran, a sterness her eyes.

"The Great Beings blew up this PLANET. You haven't been up to speed with Agorian history, have you? They literally broke the planet apart with war. If that's not a threat, I don't know what is!"

Mabtren stopped staring through a nonexistent window, and gripped her weapons (Fang of Fate, Order shield) tightly. "What if the Battera are there?" She wondered aloud.

Meanwhile, D'mrali was gathering his belongings and preparing to leave. He looked up. He used his ZoomVision+ technology to zoom in on orbiting objects. Bad news- a Class 5 Capital ship and a Class 2 escort. He thought it was best not to tell his fellows about this. They were frightened enough. The chances were, his secret was not going to last long, near to psionic beings.

((I'm gonna be camping for the next few days, so expect inactivity from me.))

[Rixicus]

Rixicus grimaced as he stood in a corner of the shuttle. So the Great Beings had finally decided to show their faces once again in this world. And as far as he was concerned, they were not welcome. After all, it was they who caused the Shattering of Spherus Magna, and most Agori and Glatorian were not ready to forgive them for it.

Still, he wondered. If the Great Beings were so powerful, why did their spacecraft crash instead of land? Was it shot down? And if so, who did the shooting?

((In case you haven't noticed, Rixicus is very introspective and thoughtful. He mostly keeps to himself, and sort of has a monologue going on in his mind. He only speaks when completely necessary.))

"What if the Battera are there?" She wondered aloud.

((Oh, You'll see. I have something in mind for the baterra.))

Enias focused on the name. It was encoded.

After a few seconds, it began to break down. Now two names were present in connection with the black pyramid.

The first, the Black Spike Mountains.

The second scared him.

The Baterra Fall.

((What is it? Hmm. Watch this space...))

Ghaile was quickly briefing the team on the situation.

'Now, first you need to know something. It's quite a high-ranking piece of classifyed information. There are two know factions within the Great Beings: the first were our creators.

'This is where it becomes complex. This first faction were, for the most part, benvolent. Their technology was incredibly advanced. Enough to make the other faction jealous.

'Soon after the Shattering, this faction was killed out of jealousy by the other faction. There was a piece of technology they wanted - the Arcana Tempus.

'I shouldn't really be saying any of this - Enias would kill me, literally. The Arcana is a trans-temporal dimensional gateway, similar to the Olmak. It opens a portal to another universe that has it's timestream flowing in direct opposition to our own several hundred times faster. When the user returns to this universe, they will have gone back in time.

"You can see why this jealous faction wanted it. Great Beings, spreading across Time itself
((Bad news for Aridike)).

'The faction that was killed managed to save something of themselves, gentically and aethetically speaking - in the form of the race we now know as the Vorox.'

((Ben, you can come up with the name for the less nice faction - the GBs we're dealing with now. I already know the name of the nice, dead ones.

J'krel thought back at how she started first contact with a lie. She checked her mental map. Almost there.

"Before engaging with ANY non-natives, ask them to identify. The'll understand what you mean - you're requesting their faction name. If they're Great Beings, anything other than Arkitect, then it's bad news ."

Ghaile turned, and spoke into the intercom.

"Haro, have you zeroed in on that signal yet?"

There was a crackle of static, and the pilot's faint voice.

"We're approaching it now. Don't worry, he shoudldn't spot us..."

From an outside point of view, the thin, tear-drop shape of the shuttle was beginning to slow down, its' pointed prow more readily visible.

A sudden thrumming of anti-grav engines builds up, and the craft slowly begins to disappear as it uses a complex gravitational field pattern to mask its' approach.

((Btw, Enias "memorized", thru J'krel's mind, the entire bhakari lexicon. This can be passed on to Ghaile, as well.
What I was hoping would happen is that Capries and the Bhakari are taken as prisoners aboard the shuttle when it lands in the vicinity. Then Capries/the Bhakari do something to make the shuttle crash where Kor's GB is.))

Enias finished chewing over these new, disorganised memories. Evidently this map that the two races wanted so much lead to this "Fall". Perhaps it was some Great Being colloquial term.

He refocused on the issue at hand; they were nearing the main impact site. The ice beneath them was slowly turning to slush, a result of the heat of impact, and the plume of smoke very close - less than a half a clik. Enias imagined just what it would be like at the heart of the site.

However, the signal they were now tracking was much closer - three hundred metres, less. Enias knew the Being would not see them, as the lip of his crater, assuming he landed in a pod, would hide his group's approach. Of course, they would not see the Being until the last moment, too.

Suddenly, the ground beneath Enias dropped away, steeply, ice giving way to jagged shards of rock.

An impact site.

((Someone get me out of this ship. Who's driving the shuttle?))

What little conversation might have arisen following the various revelations was stifled by the ominous roar of the shuttle's engines, so Haro had to turn the volume up somewhat on the intercom to make himself heard.

"We're going into a freefall swan-dive in thirty seconds, so if all passengers would secure themselves and their belongings in case the weightlessness induced by the inertial trajectory causes only accidents. Blood tends to make things rusty, y'see."

Twenty-five seconds of fumbling and panicking slightly sufficed for the team to ready themselves, and make sure nothing was going to explode before the engines fell silent, and the shuttle fell into a stomach-turning planetwards dive.

This ordeal lasted for fourty sickening seconds worth of screaming - the shuttle was quite high up in the atmosphere, y'see - before Haro announced they were nearly there, and the anti-grav engines thrummed into life once more, swinging the craft out of the vertical into the horizontal.

The sudden increase in air pressure was enough to make anyone feel queasy, but then the shuttle's engines discharged one huge, downwards tsunami of anti-gravity, cancelling out it's momentum, bringing it to a perfect standstill on the icy plains of the north, still hidden by it's gravity shield.

A round of applause went up again, access ramps were lowered and the team prepared themselves to meet the aliens.

((Of course, the Bhacari and Capries spot them too...

Bhacari: proly good two hundred metres away.
Capries: Same distance, but in opposite direction and hidden by his crater's lip (His escape pod was bigger than the Bhacari's).

So Enias is currently ahead of the Bhacari, at the lip of Capries' crater, and the shuttle is the midway point tween the Bhacari and Enias.

Thus two situations: the recon team, who suspect the Bhacari of being, ah, Beings and that between Enias and Capries.))

[Ronin] the tall skrall walked slowly down the ramp toward the slushy ground through the group of individuals with little patience for those around him. He held his arms to his side with his palms toward the ground. His eyes began to glow brightly as he released a small pulse of energy, floating into the air and over everyone else, touching down again at the bottom of the ramp

((As a few might know, and most probably don't, Ronin gained Telekinetic abilities after an encounter with a powerful entity. The encounter also turned his eyes blue.))

Ghaile was supervising the relocation of the various pieces of equipment when she spotted some creatures she did't recognise as natives of Spherus; a trio of curious insecto-reptilian creatures on sapial legs. ((The bhakari))

A quick command sufficed to make the team aware of the situation. She was surprised no-one else had noticed - some kind of psychic defense, perhaps?

[Ghaile]

The shuttle had landed not half a mio away from the source of the distress beacon, the lip of a small crater from which smoke rose up faintly.

A strange group of beings, tall and reptilian, stood in the opposite direction, facing the Recon group. They seemed tense. Everyone was.

A squad would have to be sent first and foremost to establish contact with these...strangers. They could be Great Beings...and if so, they were to be regarded with extreme caution.

"Okay, I need a squad formed now. Myself, 6 Marksmen, a Medic, and is there a Toa with a Rau here?"

[Na'vesh]

"I don't like the looks of this..."

The expression was the same for all of them. The first diplomat of the planet was now on the other side of a ship that had dropped in out of no where. Beings of all sorts were unloading. They had weapons. Fortunately, so do we. Na'vesh gripped the key-ring tightly.

"What do we do?" D'mrali asked.

"We keep calm." J'krel responded, "Nothing says they will attack immediately. That other didn't."

"These don't seem like the same kind of beings...The other said he was made by the Great Beings."

"Well, we shall see soon enough. Here they come."

[Iiko]

The group was formed in a tight knit circle. He and Ghali were near the center, fortunately. It was all very exhilarating for Iiko, but he was ordered to keep calm. Things could be explosive here with these beings. 'Great Beings' possibly...

Only a few long minutes before they were up close and personal to the beings. They were nearly monsterous, and conjured images of Zyglak to Iiko, yet...there was a hint of cunning in their eyes which no Zyglak could ever have.

The Toa with the Rau was at the front, with Ghalie by his side. He was a Toa of Fire, and gave the gesture for "I'm Unarmed" before attempting to use his mask power. The Translation was rough, but the introductions went a little something like this:

"Greetings. I am Mikof. This is my superior, Ghalie. What Faction are you of?"

The three looked at each other, a bit in shock, but one stepped forward and said:

"Greetings to you, Mikof. I am Jakril ((Matoran Version)). We are-"

The being halted and looked up quickly, and jumped back to the others, who had drawn what appeared to be weapons.

The marksmen fired as an erruption of ice blew up from beneath them all. A makuta had landed on top of them.

[Enias]

Well, it's not really smooth of someone to trip off a ledge, but it's just plain rude if you were to trip off a ledge and land /on top of/ somebody. Unfortunately, this was the case for Enias.

He had tumbled down the steep slope and hit right into a being at the bottom. The both of them fell into the semi-liquid slush of the crater. Enias groaned whilst he was thrown off of the being by a strong hand.

Before Enias had even gotten to his feet, he felt a huge elemental power being amassed in front of him.

"Oh Ka-"

[Capries]

The thing had come from nowhere. It appeared at first to just be a heap of metal falling from the edge of the crater, but it was soon evident that it was alive as it let out a raspy moan. A familiar raspy moan.

"A-a Maker!? What is that doing here?!"

With no forethought, Capries charged his fire powers and blasted the thing out of the crater and far beyond.

((Thank you! Now this can really get under way.))

(( Also, I'm back now.))

[Na'vesh]

So, this was bad.

All he had wanted was some friendly contact. Even a tension-filled stalemate would have been fine!

Instead, they were being shot at by some natives.

Enias had also just fallen out of nowhere and didnít seem to be in the condition to do any sort of diplomatic work, either.

His musings were suddenly interrupted by a fresh wave of bullets and energy blasts from the warriors. He quickly focused on using his telekinetics to deflect the projectiles away from him and his companions.

While one of the warriors paused to reload his weapon, Na'vesh made his move. A small, thin slot opened in the armor on his forearms, and from them came a hail of thin, blue, glowing disks. Yes, they were a weapon taken from the Great Beings, but those electrified disks were SO effective.

While they were preoccupied, he tried to identify some form of commander. He picked out one, a red, white, and black armored being, presumably a female. She seemed likely.

Focusing on her, he activated his telekinetic powers once more. Perhaps it would be prudent to take a hostage.

[Rixicus]

Rixicus shook his head as he slipped away from the main group. Everyone was focused on the shootout going on outside the crater. HE, however, was much more interested in what was happening INSIDE. He already knew that something was sending a distress signal from inside the crater by eavesdropping on his superiors.

He still wondered. It seemed to him that the group of creatures that the others were engaging was headed toward the distress signal as well.

But why would they be doing that?

Of course, they might believe that the distress signal came from some of their own kind, and they were coming to assist them.

But things still didnít add up.

Why was that signal so strong?

Suddenly a thought came to him, one that was not pleasant.

What if there were not one faction of these aliens, but two?

But he had to get to the crater first.

Having a shield was relatively useful, especially with bullets everywhere. Mabtren slowly stepped over to protect their probably most valuable asset- Iiko. Over the course of the firefight, her shield made the oddest noise at various points:"pwoosh" She jabbed at any unfortunate Bhakarian who walked up close enough to be in the range of her envenomed sword, and spent a lot of time on the defensive.

D'mrali was interested in other things. He was intent on finding and capturing Capries, and his path intersected with Rixicus' quite often. His LTSR*, or, Local Terrain Scanning Radar(which provides a detailed 3D map of the surrounding terrain, and locations of objectives, allies, enemies and other NavPoints) was on, and he could have a sort of clairvoyance to the path up ahead, and it also showed the prisoner's location. D'mrali, 1, that other guy, 0, He thought.

*Sometimes this device is nicknamed the "Lieutenant Sir".

The instant Enias detected all that elemental power being amassed before him, he quickly moved one of the anti-grav cubes he'd taken from the Bhakari's escape pod((See Ch.1, midway)) external to his armor and used the last of his energy to mitigate the blast with it.

This, however, did not change the laws of physics.

As Enias flew through the air, various thoughts blossomed through his mind, such as: Not again, how did the Being know he was a makuta since he wasn't his creator, and would having the anti-grav cube external to such heat weld it to the Being's front-

Then all these thoughts were driven out by the ice and the snow, and the sound of gunfire.

Ghaile was furious.

"Who the h*ll took it into their pathetic little heads to fire on the non-natives, eh? Some marksmen! Next time I'll take a job up herding Rock Steeds rather than work with such a bunch of incompetent fools!"

The marksmen flinched at the remarks, but remained silent otherwise.

Ghaile shook her head again. The aliens had draw their weapons, apparently - and the marksmen decided to fire on them. Fortunately, one of the aliens - the leader, a female, Ghaile noted - managed to disarm them before any serious damage was done.

They did what any normal Order member might have done, she thought, but it was unwise to let them go unpunished before the newcomers. Show them it was truly, an accident.

Ghaile turned to the makuta - Enias - who was apparently the cause for all this mess. His form was sprawled unruly over the silver skin of the shuttle, and Haro was currently attending to him - feeding him with a power cable that connected to the shuttle's main generator. His eyes would flicker occasionally - a good sign, as he had been out for several minutes after his accident.

Ghaile, as Enias was waking up, she detected a short psychic surge emanating from the female. The message was somewhat sketchy, but she managed to guess it's meaning - feeling it rather than hearing it.

Behind her, Enias's eyes flashed, strong now, a constant blue. He slowly stood up, what little frost that had formed on his armour shattering.

'I suppose you met my friends here. I hope you didn't try to hurt them - they are our guests, after all.'

He turned to Jakrel - was that her name? His new lexicon was a little vague on names.

'My friends here can be a little over eager at times; we have had our fair share of bad experiences with the Great Beings.'

Jakrel shook her head in the negative.

'We expected no less.'

Enias turned to survey the scene of slushy ice pockmarked with explosions.

'Where is the armoured one, you know - he has legs like mine.'

Jakrel looked thoughtful.

'He went off to see where the signal was coming from...'

Ghaile finally saw something she though she'd never see on the face of this makuta: fear.

D'mrali activated his mobile communicator. "I'm going to attempt capture of our prisoner."he said to J'krel. However, the captain could barely hear him; the magnetic field generated by the Foreshadow's damaged reactor was interfering with his "Lieutenant Sir" radar and comms. Enias practically roared.

'We need to get to the crater! Now! And I want a team of six elements put together.'

The team began to mobilise, the Bhakari with them - so that was their name. No wonder Jakrel's communication efforts hadn't made sense.

Internally, he hoped that the anti-grav cube had been welded to the Being's chest plate. It would make what he was planning to do easier.

((Okay, this is the situation:

A ship has crashed on the pole of Sphereus Magna, a Great Being ship, the Aurora. It was captained by Capries, a Great Being, who was taken prisoner by a race at war with the Great Beings, the Bhakarians. The ship crashed, Capries escaped in a drop pod, and there are now three Bhakarians, J'kril, Dm'rali, and Na'vesh, who set out from the wreckage to find Capries and investigate a local.

The local in question was Enias, a Makuta wanting to make contact with the Great Beings for personal motives. Unbeknowst to him, a Recon Team was sent to investigate the crash, headed by Ghalie. Iiko, a medic, intercepted a distress beacon, sent by Capries in his escape pod, and led Ghalie to believe that Great Beings were up to no good, starting to make trouble in the neighborhood.

Upon landing, the Recon Team sighted the Bhakarians at the same time Enias had stumbled, literally, upon Capries, and was thrown right in the middle of an act of diplomacy, leading to much confusion.

Enias is now in medical care in the recon shuttle with the Bhakarians in tow. Capries is still in his crater, only disturbed by Rixicus, and trying to contact Valces on the Vanguard.

Kor should be outside near the ship, for now. I have a plan for this all, don't you worry. ))

((Oookay...

There appears to be some confusion as to which ship crashed on the pole. According to Ben's first post, there was a ship called the Forsight as well. We can sort that out later in Story Outline.

At any rate, this is of no immediate importance to the storyline.

Enias: currently mobilising the Recon team for action. He's an Order member himself(he was commander of that outpost at the beginning of ch.1), and knows Ghaile quite well. He was not aware of the recon mission.

Capries: Still in his crater, now battling with D'mrali. Rixicius: Probably sneaking up behind the Being. Meh.

Bhakari: Following the RT.

I'm going to post this here AND in the story outline, so if there are problems we sort them out there, so as to not clutter up this thread with continuity arguments.))

While the rest of the team relocated themselves and their equipment the four-hundred-and-something metres to the impact crater, J'krel, Ghaile, Enias and Na'vesh walked near to the back of the procession, and talked strategy.

The plan was somewhat simple: The team would pretend to be a group of devout Great Being worshippers, using that race's natural arrogance to their own advantage.

A team of six experienced element wielders would be positioned strategically throughout the team. When the time came, they would each fire a blast of pure elemental energy at the Being, hoping to trap it within a Protodermic Cage.

They did not account, however, for the actions of one vorox...

[Rixicus]

Rixicus traveled down the crater slope with murder in his mind.

It had been quite the shock to learn that his race were actually the descendants of a faction of Great Beings.

Even worse was the fact that they had all been killed by their brothers, another faction of Great Beings, out of jealousy and hatred.

Now those cowards had returned, and Rixicus knew that the time for revenge had come.

---

Now at the bottom of the slope, Rixicus watched, waiting for a time to strike. The traitor was already in combat with one of those strange aliens, the one that looked slightly cybernetic.

All he needed was one clear shot with his explosive launcher. Then the traitor would be no more.

Enias turned to Ghaile, Na'vesh and J'krel talking amongst themselves as they walked the icy waste. Both had grasped the rudimentary principles of the Matoran language with surprising ease; they had a facinating capacity for hive-mindedness - information psychically exchanged, enabling one individual's know-how to spread to an entire group.

'How long until the Tracers get here?'

Ghaile c*ocked her head to one side, thoughtful.

'I'd expect twenty minutes. Even if they didn't pick up the Protocol Herald, they'll have picked up the Being signal that should be bouncing round the atmosphere by now.'

Tracers were the Order Retrieval - an elite team, usually toa and skrall, equipped with black, carbon-exsidian reinforced armour and superluminal jump-packs that enable them to travel an inhumanely high speeds.

She looked over again to the horizon. The rest of the impact crater was still to be explored - it was less that a klik from this Being's crater, a huge brown-and-white smear on the landscape ahead.

'How do you know whatever's in that crater is a Great Being?'

'You see Ghaile: I know for a fact that the faction that created the Mata Project is dead. Totally and utterly dead.

'From my, ah, observations, it seems quite powerful, and since it knows, somehow, I am a makuta I can quite reasonably conclude that it is a Great Being.

'There is another scenario, but that would include a Being as well.'

'So why are you wondering how it knows you're a makuta?'

'Because I - and the makuta as a whole - were created by Mata-Nui, not the Beings. Not even an Architect would know who I am. But, ultimately, the most likely alien to know it would be a Being. And not one of the nice ones.'

Ghaile turned her attention from Enias's deducing, and to the matter of the team.

The fallen object that had created the crater had obviously been quite sizeable; it had displaced a bank of ice several metres high to the lip on one side, giving the team a screen with which they could hide behind.

Ghaile raised her fist, and her voice.

'I need six elementals for a proto-cage team, six DIFFERENT marksmen and a medic. Oh, and has anyone seen that vorox?.'

((That means Mabtren, Mulciber and anyone else.

Oh, and Gideon - your A'zaiah can teleport, so what's to stop him picking up the Being's signal and teleporting there? But him back in the story a bit.))

((Seems like it's time for the start of the showstopper...))

[Ghalie]

Ghalie led from behind the group of Toa assembled for the Protodermis Cage. She, Enias, and several marksmen (not the ones who had fired earlier, mind you, they had been demoted), followed in tow and disguised themselves as best they could.

The crater was oblong with the closest side a 10 bio sheer dropoff, but the opposite side was a much flatter slope, thanks to the pod's angle of impact. They would have to make their descent into the crater there.

They heard sounds of battle below them. They would have to hurry.

[Capries]

"Oh, what the XXXX are YOU doing here, Savage?!"

Capries amassed his powers and two fireballs erupted in his hands.

"You are not getting the better of me twice, you pirating scum!"

The Bhakarian said nothing but raised his cybernetic arm and in doing so unsheathed an electrified blade from within the limb. He grasped the sword in hand and dashed at Capries.

((Sorry, Quad, that's the best I can guess at for "Project Vorpal". He grasped his vorpal sword in hand, long time the manxome foe he fought, eh? Anyway))

[Rixicus]

Still crouched, armed and out of sight, Rixicus saw the group of Ghalie, several Toa, and that makuta from earlier descend down the farther side of the crater. What the Karzahni were they trying to do? Start a giant brawl? No matter. Stick to the plan.

Rixicus affixed his sights on the Great Being.

[Enias]

It was near total chaos when they had reached the bottem of the crater. It seemed their hope of appealing to the Great Being's ego wasn't going to work as he was already fighting that Bhaki-whoever that Enias had seen with the others, and, surprisingly, he was keeping up pretty well with the Great Being, too. There was something about his sword maybe...ah, whatever. Time for a change of plans.

"Ghalie, it seems we have no choice but to join the fray. Listen, I'll go and distract the Great Being, but you have to be ready for my signal to make the cage."

Enias broke formation while Ghalie ordered the Toa to stay put and get ready with their powers.

*I guess I'll have to side with that Bhiko-whatever guy for the time being until I can see what happened to that anti-grav cube...*

((No, she isn't. It was the marksmen's fault...))

Enias decided that a distraction was unnessacary ((Because his creator (me) didn't want him tooooo)) and jumped to the second stage of his plan.

A quick look at the Being's armour told him all he needed to know: a silver greebled cube sticking unevenly out of the Being's chestplate.

Quickly he synched with the five other anti-grav cubes in his antidermis, and then with the cube on Capries's chestplate.

The look of surprise on the Great Being's face was evident as he was borne aloft, the curious luminal distortions of the gravity field ablaze around him.

I need to manage characters, sometimes many of them, through events which make the story progress. If I weren't to do these occasional kinds of things, the story would stay disconnected and dysfunctional, as a result. Gringat did the same in the First BRC.

I do try to keep people in character and not change their position drastically. So far, what I've done is handled the situation in the crater, which is a very touchy situation, I'm sure you can see. If I don't take action for everyone as a whole, we'd get a whole lot of nothing happening. Kor felt this explainable urge to jump in front of the great being.

Enias smiled as ribbons of multicoloured elemental energy wrapped around the Gladiator in ever-decreasing circles.

But what's this? An agori, clad in some kind of gunmetal radiation suit clambered over the lip of the crater.

And jumped.

The figure fell right into the paths of the beams, their force knocking him back into Being.

And then there was a flash, brighter than a million suns, as the Caging met it's climax.

---

The leftovers of the Caging were so grotesque that only Enias, Ghaile and the medic could look at them. The agori's body had been reduced to little more than mounds of charred, inside-out flesh. The Being was the better off of the two corpses; it had only been killed by the anti-gravity cube overloading. Electrified stone dead.

There was no doubt that both of them were dead. The Caging beams had released some of the protodermic binding energy that had held the agori together - hence the bright flash and dismemberedness.

Now a marvel of medics were carrying the Being's body up the crater's slope, back to the shuttle. While it might be dead, you couldn't be too careful.

As they, and the rest of the disheartened team trudged up the rocky incline, Enias engaged conversationally with D'mrali in the insectine tones of the bhakarian language.

"How long do you think it will take the Great Beings to get a ship down here? Assuming they're in orbit."

"How long do you think it will take the Great Beings to get a ship down here? Assuming they're in orbit."

"In orbit, y'say? Well, they would normally be here now... 'nless they're waiting for something..."

[Ronin] returned to the ship as per orders. The events of the day had been quite unsettling, even compared to some of the things he'd gone through back when the world had been split, and it wasn't even half over. He shook his head and took his seat on the shuttle.

[A'zaiah] the soldier was on the far side of the crater, watching the Caging before being blinded by the intense light. When his sight returned to him he watched the natives hauling the corpse of the great being away before vanishing in an implosion of shadow of light, reappearing at the crash site moments later to continue assembling the few survivors he had found.

Kor tested everything in the room. The figure remained silent. It wasn't until he checked every nook and space of the room several times that he resorted to banging his head against a wall.

[Mulciber]
Mulciber was near the ship when he realized what he had done, he helped imprison a Great Being! A Great Being! The species that created his kind! The species the ripped this world in three parts! He walked on pride pushing away thoughts of anything else.

"I know /exactly/ which kinds o' ship. Y'see, my cybernetic powers allow me to teloscope my vision, and it's one huge one, and one slightly smaller one."

She walked over to Ghaile and ,looking her in the eye, she enquired "How can we contact the people who sent you here?"

Ghaile was supervising the team back at the shuttle when the Bhakari leader approached her. She was mildly surprised at the speed with which the alien had learnt their language.

"There's no need. We've already-"

A series of figures, one after the other, flickered and solidified not so far from the shuttle, like they'd been travelling at such speed they left their images in the air behind.

Tall, and clad in black, streamlined armour, they wore round, full-face helmets and had curious blue discs inset on their chestplates, toting powerful-looking rifles.

Tracers.

The Order's elite fast response; usually toa or skrall. Prototype superluminal ((faster-than-light)) jump-packs - the blue discs - meant that they could reach anywhere across the globe in a matter of seconds.

Ghaile smirked. Now they could show these aliens what the Order could really do.

"Looks like the cavalry has arrived."

Night was falling.

"I undertand that today was a dark hour for all of us."

Enias confidently spoke to the crowd.

"But we must be every on our guard. My alien friend tells me there are Being ships in orbit. They appear to be waiting for something. What, I cannot say. Tonight, however, we go to the main crash site."

Enias stepped aside to allow the medics to carry the body of the being aboard the ship.

Agori legends often talked of the Great Beings as being gods; angry, powerful.

But, today, one had fallen.

((And...cut! That's a wrap!
Chapter three I will call thee, "Nightfall".

Sorry guys, but this thread was getting a ittle stagnant.))
