Here it is mocpages! What categories do you want to see in the 2009 Mocie Awards? Remember, you're voting here so even if someone else already put it, add it anyway.

Is Star Wars alright?

A bit broad of a topic, but sure. If anyone wants to help narrow it down a bit here... like best star wars fighter or capitol ship... (BTW, 2008 Mocie award winners are not eligable for 2009 (with the exception of "People". For instance, the Invisible Hand won for best microscale last year so it can't win this years. Sorry Mark. Basically, everything built between June 08 and (we're not voting yet so...) June 09 is eligable. But right now, we're just looking for categories. Not individual mocs.

I want to suggest a "Best Series" category. Something where my series "Beta" or other action series can win an award. I'd also like to see that, except for comedy. Like for O vs Y and Shannon Y's Ocean VS Young thing. Or did you make that Chris?

Alright then, how about Star Wars Dioramas/Vignettes?
P.S. Chris what happened to SigKelso? Last time he was at Heather's place, where's he going now?

SigKelso's last post was by Dave Shaddix. I think he's doing another post before SigKelso moves on to the next lucky sucker.

AHA! A "Best SigOcean Figgy Episode" and "Best SigKelso Episode" category. You know, for the AFOLs.

Yes Alex, I did O vs Y but changed the name to MOC WARS out of respect to Mr. Youngs brilliant work. I did it first, he did it better.

What about a crossover category -- mixing town and pirates, space and castle, etc. It could be funny.
| February 4, 2009, 9:52 pm
I think that maybe instead of Star Wars vignettes/dioramas and other that maybe it should be divided into episodes 1-3 (including Clone Wars) and 4-6 (including expanded universe on either side). I agree with the cross-over idea, seeing pirates ransacking a star destroyer or something like that would be cool.

I think maybe something like a mech or military category. Just my opinion!-Matt

Catagories eh? Hmm, best supersize space ship; best chicken mech; best smack talk line; most redundant moc (sw clones); best male chicken supporting role in a mini series...

I guess I'll have to wait until I'm mature enough to go after non-Star Wars MOCs to have a chance at placing in anything :)

Unless any of them are awesome enough to go for the gold, I think I'll look into making a micro city or something else that's not influenced by Sci-Fi

There really should be a category "Cars/Vehicles" this time, cause there are some great car builders that got a raw deal in the 2008 Mocie Awards.

"Murder Most Foul" or "Murder Most Fowl" in memory of Rory.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this isn't a contest per se guys. Its not something yall are supposed to go build stuff for. Think of it as an awards show, a year-end-review of the best mocs and mocers (and mocettes)of '08. See Chrispys '08 Mocie moc to get an idea of what's going on here. Hope that clarifies things. Peace - Patrick

Thank you Patrick. This is NOT a contest to build for now, it is exactly what Patrick said, a review of the best of the past year. If you want to build something new, by all means have fun, but think of this as more like the Oscars for what has already been published. All mocs built between June 08 and June 09 are in, regardless of whether or not they are entered in this contest specifically.

And yes, once we get the categories picked, then I will be asking for nominations of mocs in each category, but that won't be for a month or two yet.

AFTER we get the nominations, THEN I'll be asking for votes. After that, myself and my staff will be counting the votes and I'll build the 09 mocie awards ceremony (won't be till about early July).

Now that we got that sorted out... looks like Space, trains, cars and Star Wars are the front runners so far... keep em coming! ~ Chris

I'd like to second the car catagory. Sure, Firas is probably a given, but there are some others out there that are pretty good too.

Now I understand. Just like my, ahem, young scholars, I failed to actually read the directions before taking the test. Still like the idea of "Murder Most Fowl" though . . .

Hey Chris - one word: CASTLE. Savvy? =)

I have a bunch of MOCs that I could recommend for the category if you want. I actually have a new one you might want to check out...the bribery money is on the way.

Let me put in my official vote for the following categories this year:

Vehicles
Star Wars
Castle
Town
Sci-Fi (could include space and fantasy type builds Halo, Mecha, etc...Star Wars could also be a part of this category easily rather than being seperate)
Train
Architectural
Landscape
Micro
Humorous
Ongoing Theme
Vig

That's already a lot, and I'm sure others could think of many more. Anyway, those are the ones that come to mind at the moment.

Can we have a "hottiest hottie of MOCpages" category so that Shannon Young can get his Klementina her award? I'm just sayin'.

I'm sensing some tension here.

That's what I was thinking. Can't build it myself, but I think there are some people out there who should be recognized for their amazing WWII stuff. I agree with everything else though, not that I'll be winning any of it.

Can I just say that I think the Sci-Fi category is a bit big. Divide it up into like "Best video game moc", "Best Space moc", "Best Mech", etc.

I personally think that makes for too many categories. Phipson's taking on a lot already, and I can't imagine him having 30 to 40 awards. Although it's not ideal, by condensing many themes into one category (such as Sci-Fi), we could at least give more themes the opportunity to be represented in some capacity.

Any opinions on having a "miscellaneous" category of some kind (for creations that can't seem to fit in one of the award categories Chris ends up going with)?

I think that's a good idea on the note that there's always MOCs that SHOULD be mentioned, but aren't part of any "category".

Ok, so I'm seeing some recurring themes here. I haven't settled on the final list yet (not by a long shot), but some things that will be in this year are: Sci fi (including star wars and halo and steam punk and what not), modern vehicles (this includes all cars and military vehicles and so on) and the Misc. category (just to cover the bases). I think there may also be a "town" category this year. I'll also add in the usual humor, stories, landscapes and vigs.

Right then. What else you got?

And I'm liking the best newcomer idea too. There's a LOT of good new builders on the scene. Maybe I'll toy around with that one too.

Darn, should've had that category last year! I definitely think I improved from '07-'08.

And I started in '07. Just for clarification.

Definitely, though, a "best newcomer" one is great.

I dont have time to read all of the posts, so sorry if it has been sudjested already, BUT: what about the best bandwagon? You know, cave racers, VOAT, Vic Viper, the frog thing on Flickr, Meatpunk, stuff like that?

Well, best figscale car along with best large-scale car would be good, since just "car" would be too broad...
| February 18, 2009, 6:12 pm
Okay, now that I had time to read the rest of the posts, here are the rest of my thoughts:

Castle
post apoc
best new guy
best movie-based thing
best on-going theme
SNOT
again, the best bandwagon,
and micro scale. However, I think Shannonia should be out. It's won it's prize by now.

So, good luck with this again, Chris. If you want any help getting this organized, just let me know and I would be glad to be of service!

I'll say this again because I really think we need it. A gun catagory. The people who build guns are left in the dust. I should know, I build both regular MOCs and guns. Guns are harder to build than you think, especially replicas. It took me a week to build my G36C. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/98549

That's what the miscellaneous category is for Chris.

The nomination list is up. Get to it everyone!

A nice category would be "Best MOC made out of a set." I'd have two MOCs qualified for that, one of which is one of my few non-Star Wars MOCs.

Ummm, I don't think this will be approved, but can we have a decals section, or will the theme of decals go with that category?
