Welcome to the official 2009 Mocie Awards page. Last year, I got a little flak about not opening it up to EVERYONE so here's how we're going to do it this year...

I'm starting this thread to get EVERYONE'S ideas for categories. Of course things like "best builder" and "MOC of the Year" go without saying.

What I'm looking for here, is your choice for different catagories. I'm kinda doing this on a "vote" type premise so even if someone else already said your idea for a category, put it in anyway. I'm going to take the top 8 or so categories and go from there.

We'll use this conversation thread as the "talk about things that don't matter" thread. I'll start a thread where you can add your votes for categories. In a couple of months, I'll add the threads for the who's and whats.

I know... I can't believe it's that time already either...

Can we add creations to the group now? Or do you want us to wait until further notice?

This page isn't really for creations. It's more for suggestions. If you want to get your stuff out there for people to see, then knock yourself out. Just be sure it's up to Mocie Awards standards...

Standards? You mean we have to have them? That's asking an awful lot.

What is this group I saw the name and it sounded interesting and I wanted to ask what is it for like do you host the Mocie awards or something

Yes I do. Check my home page for the 08 mocies. It's not REAL awards or anything. Just bragging rights. But it's fun none the less.

I just randomly joined seeing that my friend Alex did. I hope that's O.K. PS: Does this have to be a certain theme like the Rory, or can we post mechs? Yeah, I know, I'm too mech-obsessed.

Funny Phong Funny.

I dont think my mocs can make it yeah.

maybe I should sighn out of the group what do you think Phippy

This group is for your opinions on other peoples builds. You don't have to enter yourself. Take a look at the 08 mocies on my page and then you'll see what the deal is. I just decided to open it up to everyone this year so everyone can have a voice in what they think is the best of the best. So no, you don't have to sign out, just give us your thoughts.

Hey, Chris, when is this planned to start?

Funny you should ask. I was just thinking about this on my way into work today. I'm going to go over and start a new thread for nominations in categories in a few minutes (Maybe a half hour or so). I'll put out the categories and let you guys go nuts with that. The awards themselves won't get started until AFTER Brickworld (Which starts on June 18th). I've got WAY too much moccing to do between now and then to add the Mocies to the mix. Now then... where did I put that catagory list...

Oh, so quite a while. That's fine, though: gives me more time to come out with "award-winning" MOCs ;^)

Hey Phipy (or Mark, I don't know who reads these), you'll probably think I've fallen completely out of my tree by suggesting this, but I've been looking through the nominations and have noticed that almost all of them are large to very large in scale. I can only imagine how busy you guys must be sifting through all these nominations and assigning categories and what-not and you'd like to at least get THIS years awards over and done with, but what do you think about adding size sub-classes to each category for... *wait for it* next years awards. I know, I know, I'm nuts for even bringing it up, but it might be a nice opportunity for us small to mid sized builders who don't have the entire LIU treasury department at our disposal to fund endless Bricklink orders of 2x2 gray tiles to have a chance at some recognition.

Patrick, I think that's a solid point. Chris is the head cheese in this group, but I'd be interested in discussing it with him in the future. We don't want to get too carried away with numerous categories, but something for the smaller MOC's might be worth considering. It would be nice to offer some form of recognition to those that don't have the big bucks for a massive collection. We'll see.

I think this sounds like a GREAT idea. For this year, feel free to nominate any smaller creations in any of the categories (misc. may be your best bet for some things). But in the grand scheme of things, like Yoda said, Size matters not... something kelso's wife keeps trying to make him feel better about.
