Clarifications for the Curious #2

Ever wondered HOW we came up with all these categories?
Well, many of you did, since they asked it several times...

So, originally we thought about a 7 rounds tournament starting with 128 players, so we needed 129 categories.
There AREN'T 129 categories in LEGO building, so we spliced the existing ones in sub-categories, and thus "Mech" has become "Racing Mech", "Trampler Mech" and whatnot, Miniland has become "Miniland Vehicle", "Miniland Professions" and so on and so forth.
Then, we added some "random" categories, like very peculiar dioramas and other weird stuff like "Mix and Match" and "Crossverse Battle" and other stuff.

However, once it was clear that the people who would sign up would surpass the 128, we introduced the "eliminatories" (hoping to reduce drop-outs in the direct matches, in vain- sigh), and we wrote down a list of "Young-Style" categories for that purpose.

Since R2 started at 64, we didn't need all the 129 categories we had previously written, so we drafted 65 and inserted them into the brackets in a way to avoid redundancies.
Then, players were inserted at random.

Hehe!
Seriously, I'm glad at least one found this little "behind the scenes" interesting enough to comment :)

Thanks for the insight Yuri! I love little factoids like this. That's a pretty neat little system you all have come up with!

Haha, and which one of you judges was responsible for assigning opponents?

Quoting Flare .
Haha, and which one of you judges was responsible for assigning opponents?

None. One of them assigne "Player A" in all brackets, and another assigned "Player B" without telling one another. Then the 2 separate brackets were joined together with the category bracked (known only to myself) et voila!
Perfectly random matchups.

I guess my loss in round one was just natural selection at work :(.

I'm a little curious and I hope I can get some clarifaction here. . . I have made my Round 3 moc. Its uploaded to mocpages. Can I add it to the MocOlympic group and still make changes to it before I add it to the offical entry thread? Or is that illegal?
Thanks,
Spencer the Soccer Player

I would just make all of the changes then add it.

I seem to remember somewhere in the rules or match-up threads for the previous rounds we are encouraged to do exactly what you suggest - it means other MO players/spectators can make helpful suggestions or point out if you've forgotten the link or whatever. The MOC isn't final until you add your entry to the Round 3 entry thread, after that you aren't allowed to change it.
So go for it - and well done for being quickest off the mark!

That is correct. The judges will NOT judge your entry until you post a link in the official round entry thread.

I am quite curious once again Yuri.
What is with the (*) on the end of all their names?
I've seen it on well known Moc-ers like Parrington to other people how I've never heard about. So I just want to know what it means and should I follow suit.
Thanks,
Spencer the Soccer Player

If you do not know what it means, why would you follow suit?

Not a nice comment Flare, I will be deleting it. Please do not imply he is "stu...pid"

I was implying myself more than him... I'm sure you've read the other topic, eh?

Nobody answered you because you didn't bother to read any of the rules, otherwise you'd know that the next chance to join this event is next year.
And might I addd, that without reading the rules you would have little chance to compete successfully in any contest no matter what.

Sorry it took me so long to clarify this, but I'm dropping out. The MocOlympics started right when I was in the process of relocating my Lego into my new room, so I wasn't able to build anything for Round 1. So I'll see everybody next year.
