MocOlympics matchups Round 3

You worked hard and won over your judges in round 2! Welcome to round 3! Best of luck to all of you.

Please read and understand ALL the following. If you have ANY questions or need clarification on something, be sure to ask.

NO LDD. Real Lego ONLY.

NOTHING that you have built previously may be used in ANY way. ALL portions of your build MUST be new. (Sig-figs are acceptable)

Round start date: September 9th (MOCpages Time). No entries posted before this date will be accepted.
Round End date and time: Sunday, September 19th at 11:59 USA Eastern Standard Time. No MOCs posted after this time will be accepted.

For your entry to be valid, you must post it in the group AND post a link to it in the round 3 entry thread (group A or B depending on your group) Once your entry is posted in the thread it may NOT be changed. I strongly suggest getting feedback from others on the post before adding the link… just in case something needs to be changed.

In your entry, you MUST have a link to either your opponent’s MOC OR their homepage (depending on who posts first. Not rocket science on which one you need…)

Title: Your entry must be titled as follows.
MocOlympics Round 3 Group (your group) (your name) vs (Opponent’s name)
Abbreviations are acceptable.
You may add your own title to your moc in the description.

You MUST (somewhere near the beginning of the post) tell us what category you’re in. You don’t need the full description, but the title of the category is needed.

Judges: Each group will have three judges for each match for this round.
The judges for group one are Lee Jones, Chris Phipson and Dennis Price.
The judges for group two are Mr. Bones, Yuri Fassio and Mark Kelso

You must get two votes to advance to round 4.
The judges are not required to give explanations for their votes. All they are “required” to do is put “I vote for you” or “Your opponent.” If they choose to tell you why they chose one over the other, that’s their choice.

Here’s how the brackets work… (again)
All the players are divided into groups. Those groups will battle it out until each group has a winner. The winner of group 1A will go against 1B. 1C will go against 1D and so on. Group 2 will follow the same pattern. The winner of 1A/B will go against 1C/D and then a group 1 winner will be declared. That player will then play against the winner of group 2 (who again, were following the same pattern) to determine the 2010 MocOlympics Champion!

Good luck to all of you and may the best MOCcer win!

Round 3 matchups

Group 1A

Stuart Delahay
Vs
Ribbits M.

Vignette
"Horror Vig". Build a spooky vig. No splatter though, only classical horror concepts. Think “old school Universal movies” for this category. (all vigs are 8x8, fig scale. parts of the MOC can go beyond the base border as long as they don't touch ground)

Jason Corlett
Vs
Uspez Morbo

Random
"Musical Bricks" Pick a piece of music and come up with a MOC that you feel best represents it. You do not HAVE to attach the music to the post, but you must post the lyrics.

Group 1B

Stuart Lucas
Vs
Dacheronar Grahen

Landscape
“Slartibarfast” Fjords! We want award-winning fjords! (I suggest googling it…) No really, google, wiki, ask an old person… this IS something real but we’re leaving it up to you to find out what it is and give us your interpretation of it. Good luck!

John Dawn
Vs
Michael Sloper

Miniland
“Miniland Professions” create a miniland figure depicting a recognizable job/profession.

Group 1C
Michael Qoyawayma
Vs
Chuke Lapman

Vehicle
"Modern Military Vehicle". Build a modern military vehicle. For the record, WW2 is not modern… (you can use the scale which you find more fitting for your model).

Spencer the Soccer Player
Vs
Espen Stalder

Diorama
"Science Fair". Build a Science fair diorama with all the pesky kids and their petty (or doomsday) projects, parents, teachers, all that jazz.

Group 1D

John Moffatt
Vs
Heath Flor

Mosaic
"Still Life" Your mosaic should be a still life.

Kevin Walter
Vs
Nicks Bricks

Landscape
“Dreamscape” Build a dreamlike space where the laws of physics seldom apply.

Group 2A

Anthony Dunne
Vs
Dave Kaleta

Vignette
"Humour Vig". Build a humouristic vignette. (all vigs are 8x8, fig scale. parts of the MOC can go beyond the base border as long as they don't touch ground)

Moodswim
Vs
Andrew Somers

Minifig Design
"Minifig Collection X" Create a fig collection as colorful and as diverse as the recent collectible series. You may use those nice stands too if you have enough, if not any plate would do. 16 of them thx :)

Group 2B

Caleb McCoy
Vs
Seth N.

Sculpture
"Classic LEGO Sculpture" Create a sculpture of any real subject. Architecture is not allowed.

Sebeus l
Vs
Dan Church

Mech
"Trampler Mech". Create a mech built on strong and tall legs designed to crush smaller vehicles without wasting ammo. It would be cool to see it do so, but it's not a basic requirement.

Group 2C

Baron Von Ben
Vs
Giovanni Seynhaeve

Space, fig sclae
"Classic Space in the 90s". Create a MOC with the scheme of one of the famous classic Space themes. Only the following themes are allowed:
# 1 M:Tron (1990–1991)
# 2 Blacktron II (1991–1992)
# 3 Space Police II (1992–1993)
# 4 Ice Planet (1993–1994)
(look them up in the internet if you never heard of them)

Bing Bong Bros
Vs
Max S.

City, fig scale
"The Corner Drugstore". Build a corner drugstore or general store. Attention to detail is very important in this category.

Group 2D

Parrington Levens
Vs
Leda Kat

Landscape
“Waterfall Landscape” Create a majestic waterfall.

Tyler Halliwell
Vs
Topsy Cret

Space, micro/nanoscale
"Micro Space Carriers". Show us a micro/nanoscale ship or space base deploying fighters or drones.

And now for something COMPLETELY different.....

So there was a moment in art class when I was in school that tainted all art classes before and after the event for me.

We were making 3-D shapes of our initials out of cardboard and tape. We were using exacto knives and I specifically remember the teacher telling us to "be careful". Almost immediately afterwards the girl next to me (her name was Bambi...no joke) sliced her wrist with the thing. Straight down her forearm, she went for gold. I never seen such a gory sight....the blood was pure black (since it didn't hit oxygen fast enough to turn red)

Needless to say that is all I remember from art class....all of them. LMAO This should really be interesting. And yes she survived to tell the tale.

Au contraire my little froggy friend, I think 8x8 vigs should have impact without the requirement for my usual outpouring of verbal nonsense. Be more concerned about the fact I like horror movies and have done a bit of vig building recently.....

Anyway, we should be happy, we only have to build and photograph one thing that's not too big!

Slartibartfast fjords?!?! Certainly didn't see that one coming! Quite a challenge with a pile of Lego bricks rather than a Magrathean terraforming fleet. Still, even more of a challenge with a pile of Bionicle parts... good luck Dacheronar, I fear you're going to need it...

Hey, this is going to be a challenge for me too! I've never build a mech that carried anyone, or that is taller than 10 studs... So this will be a challenge for the both of us. And yes, that dragon was rough, very rough...But I have a semi-valid excuse. I forgot I signed up for MOC Olympics and didn't check the group again until 3 days before the due date, so that whole thing was thrown together on saturday before the due date. And the dragon in 30 minutes... After the build, I actually replaced it with a megafig cyclops that looks much better.

Anyways, Good luck, this will be fun!

Mate, try pulling legs apart first up, and mixing in different colors combos on all three pieces of their make up. I have gotten great results doing that, though am yet to most of the figs I have come up with doing stufff like that.

Also, turn some of those torsos around to get them to plain occasionally, and use a contrasting cloaks on those guys.

Other than that, sticl to doing as many female mini-figs as you can, cos the hair pieces etc add heaps of appeal.

Also, on female you can use a plain 2x2x2 slope as a dress leading up to a like colored torso, and then drape flesh arms of the torso, looks good...

Hope any of that helps?

Blame it on the LEGO group. It's them who came up the "fig collection" idea.
After all, nearly any LEGO theme became a category for contests, why shouldn't we do the same for this?

Remember: this year you ARE allowed to buy stuff for the M.O., and fig collection #2 is on the shelves... I expcet with a wide SW fig collection and just a few of those someone like you can easily come up with a hit fig collection.

Hahahaha, I brought this very topic up with Bones through e-mail; this is by far my least favorite category. I would totally kick posterior in this, but a LOT would struggle, like you. 16? Ridiculous. Unfortunately for you, I really have no helpful ideas, just empathy. Clone-on-a-plate in the MOC O's, who would have thunk it?~H

Blame it on the LEGO group. It's them who came up the "fig collection" idea.
After all, nearly any LEGO theme became a category for contests, why shouldn't we do the same for this?

I actually have a small handful of non-SW figs and am currently working on this build. I don't have such a bad feeling about this anymore...

Lets review whats happened here:

1. AFOLs at the "I" group decide to add (*) to their names
2. It spreads through the active AFOLs
3. Dr. Klay adds one to his name as well
4. Flare adds one to his name also
5. A lot of stu.pid cra.p happens
6. AFOLs pretend that it is the black spot and that whoever has it is cursed to be banned
7. Flare removes his (*) not because he is afraid, but because "why the bleep did I add it in the first place?"
8. AFOLs pretend Flare is a coward and stuff. (Baaahhh)
9. Flare repeatedly facepalms
10. AFOLs try to make Flare embaressed

Proof against your case:
A. Chris Phipson is one of the first people to have (*). Are you saying he marked himself to be banned or something?
B. Sean, Mark, and Chris already have a list of violators... I don't see how (*) would affect anything. After all, there have been some pretty ru de people who should have the (*) on their name, but guess what? Their not AFOLs. I wonder why.
C. Even if the two above points don't make sense, it doesn't make sense that just because I put a (*) in my name marks me for banishment.

Lets add an "11." to the first list: "11. End of conversation."
