MocOlympics matchups Round 2

(Please do NOT reply to this comment... it's WAY too long and will take up too much room in the thread)

The wait is over! Here you go, the matches for round 2! Ok, important stuff first…

Please read and understand ALL the following. If you have ANY questions or need clarification on something, be sure to ask.

NO LDD. Real Lego ONLY.

NOTHING that you have built previously may be used in ANY way. ALL portions of your build MUST be new. (Sig-figs being the exception. Those are OK.)

Round start date: August 26th (MOCpages Time). No entries posted before this date will be accepted.
Round End date and time: Sunday, September 5th at 11:59PM USA Eastern Standard Time. No MOCs posted after this time will be accepted.

For your entry to be valid, you must post it in the group AND post a link to it in the round 2 entry thread (which I will be making in a minute…) Once your entry is posted in the thread it may NOT be changed. I strongly suggest getting feedback from others on the post before adding the link… just in case something needs to be changed.

In your entry, you MUST have a link to either your opponent’s MOC OR their homepage (depending on who posts first. Not rocket science on which one you need…) This is why linking to the main group was so important in round one. Now we KNOW you all know how to do it, so no excuses.

Title: Your entry must be titled as follows.
MocOlympics Round 2 Group (your group) (your name) vs (Opponent’s name)
Abbreviations are acceptable. For example:
“MO- R2-1A-Zak Overmyer vs Stuart Delahay” would be fine.
You may add your own title to your moc in the description.

You MUST (somewhere near the beginning of the post) tell us what category you’re in. You don’t need the full description, but the title of the category is needed.

Here’s how the brackets work…
All the players are divided into groups. Those groups will battle it out until each group has a winner. The winner of group 1A will go against 1B. 1C will go against 1D and so on. Group 2 will follow the same pattern. The winner of 1A/B will go against 1C/D and then a group 1 winner will be declared. That player will then play against the winner of group 2 (who again, were following the same pattern) to determine the 2010 MocOlympics Champion!

Judges:
Each group will have three judges for each match for this round.
The judges for group one are Lee Jones, Chris Phipson and Dennis Price.
The judges for group two are Mr. Bones, Yuri Fassio and Mark Kelso

You must get two votes to advance to round 3.
The judges are not required to give explanations for their votes. All they are “required” to do is put “I vote for you” or “Your opponent.” If they choose to tell you why they chose one over the other, that’s their choice.

Questions are welcomed in the question thread only please. We're more than happy to answer them, but keep it in the correct thread. Thank you.

Good luck to all of you and may the best MOCcer win!

Group 1A

Zak Overmyer
Stuart Delahay
"Classic Castle". Do I really have to explain this? Minifig Scale please.

Ribbits M
Buzz Droid
"Future Farm" Show us what a farm would look like in the future!

Jason Corlett
LegoLord
"Top 10" A great hit in the last MocAthalon. Build a MOC with 10 pieces or less. What counts as 1 piece in official instructions counts as 1 piece here. A minifig assembled counts as 3 parts. Each disassembled fig part counts as 1 piece too.

Rori P.
Uspez Morbo
"Battlestar Galactica" This is a quite broad category: anything from the new or old series, either a model in any scale, a diorama or a story, it doesn't matter.

Group 1B
Space Gypsy
Stuart Lucas
"MOC Armada". Build a whole fleet of micro/nano ships. A battle would be nice, but it's not a basic requirement.

Drew the Sk8ter
Dacheronar Grahen
"Classic Space in the 80s". Create a MOC with the scheme of one of the famous classic Space themes. Only the following themes are allowed:
# 1 Classic Space (1978-1987)
# 2 Blacktron (1987-1988)
# 3 Futuron (1987–1990)
# 4 Space Police (1989)
(look them up in the internet if you never heard of them)

John Dawn
Ryan Tennant
“Justice LEGO” Design a league of superheroes! You can add some LEGO f/x to show their powers or even design some foes, but they are not basic requirements. Just make sure to tell us who they are and what they do.

Shannon Ocean
Michael Sloper
"Micro Layout" Build a micro/nanoscaled city layout. It would be nice to see some "life" in it, but it's not a basic requirement.

Group 1C
Michael Qoyawayma
Dr. Happybaboon
"Mosaic Portrait" Your mosaic should feature a face or a human figure.

Pony Lord 7
Chuke Lapman
"Combiner Set". Build a MOC using as many parts as possible from 2 different official LEGO sets in the same theme. The moc should also be in the same theme as the sets used. For example, using two Atlantis sets would mean building an Atlantis moc and so on. Be sure to tell us which sets you used. A picture of the unused parts laid out would be nice but is not a requirement.

Spencer the Soccer Player
Sam Ellis
"Set Alternate". build a MOC using only parts from ONE official LEGO set. Unlike the “combiner set” category, you do NOT need to build in the same theme as the sets you used. Let your imagination soar! Be sure to tell us which set you used. A picture of the unused parts laid out would be nice but is not a requirement.

Espen Stalder
Matt Pondiscio
"Street Action". Show us the actions of the people who protect our daily lives. Police, firemen or paramedics. The action must take place for the most part outdoors and in a city setting.

Group 1D

Joshua Christenson
John Moffatt
"Racing Mech". Well, your mech should be designed to win a race rather than whoppin' axe. Showing it in a race dio or with an opponent is not a requirement but it would sure add presentation points.

Elnickre
Heath Flor
"Splatter & Gore Vig". Build a gory and bloody vig. (all vigs are 8x8, fig scale. parts of the MOC can go beyond the base border as long as they don't touch ground)

Kevin Walter
Matt David
“Dr. Demented's Lair Diorama”. Build a mad scientist's lair and be sure to tell us what his nefarious schemes are…

Nicks Bricks
Mike Johnson
"Classic Micro Castle". Not much to think about here, just build a castle in a smaller scale than 1:40.

Group 2A

Triple threat match
Lea Khan
Vs
Anthony Dunne
Vs
Joe P.
"Playground Diorama". Build a playground for fig kids to have fun in! You know, slides, swings… one of those twirly things where they spin around till they throw up… You get the idea.

Flare
Dave Kaleta
"Aquastlenauts Diorama!" Build a scene of the famous underwater knights created by Giovanni Seynhaeve!

Moodswim
Commander Chris
“Miniland Vehicle” Create a civilian vehicle in miniland scale driven by a miniland figure

David.
Andrew Somers
"House for Sale" Create a brand-new house, ready to be sold!

Group 2B
CJ
Caleb McCoy
“Star Wars Short Story” Do I need to explain?

Seth N.
Masked Builder
"Superhero!". Design a superhero with NO powers (like Batman) and all his gadgets and vehicles, then give him a worthy nemesis.

Ocho T Cactus
Sebeus 1
"Star Wars Vig". Build a SW themed vig. (all vigs are 8x8, fig scale. parts of the MOC can go beyond the base border as long as they don't touch ground)

Roger Brickjet
Dan Church
"Mix & Match" Mix 3 or more themes into a coherent ensemble. They don't need to be official LEGO themes. It may be Ninja Space Pirates, Or Cowboys Vs Knights underwater, or Spongebob and the zombie cyborgs... I'm not giving out more examples, or I risk ruining your inspiration.
Just remember: there must be at least 3 different themes represented, and they can be mixed together or encounter each other as you please, but still make enough sense to save some of the judges' mental health (if any).

Group 2C
Evan D.
Baron Von Ben
"Crossverse Battle" Portray a fight between a system vehicle/mecha and a bionicle creature of comparable size. Or a giant bionicle monster and a small system army. Or whatever. Just keep in mind the basic concept: System Vs Bionicle.

Master Shifu Leo J
Giovanni Seynhaeve
“Day at the beach” build a seaside landscape.

Klay
Bing Bong Brothers
-"LEGO Wear". Create clothing/hats/shoes in LEGO and wear them! You MUST include a pic of you (or some poor sap that you conned in to it) wearing the item(s). No jewelry, that's another category (though you can add them as an extra).

Mister Sidewinder
Max S.
"Modern Aircraft"- Build a CIVILIAN plane or helicopter or any other modern day air vehicle. NOT military, that’s a different category. (you can use the scale which you find more fitting for your model)

Group 2D

Parrington Levens
Cody G.
"BlackTron III" Create a new LEGO theme for BT3. It should consist in one primary color (black, duh!), one secondary color and one transparent or neon color. Post several MOCs in this scheme like they were some sets form an official line (some smaller, some bigger. You know how it works).

Cameron G.
Leda Kat
“Alternate ending (short story)” Write a different ending for a movie you like… Or don't like. At some point in your write up, be sure to tell us which movie you’re changing AND what the original ending to the movie was. As much as we try, not all the judges have seen EVERY movie…

Erik C.
Tyler Halliwell
"Movie theater (Diorama)" Show us the inside of a movie theater during a show. A drive-in is acceptable too.

Green Man
Topsy Cret
"Lego Logo" Come up with a fictitious company, and build a 3-D symbol for the companies identity (the way Sean's done Google, Chase Bank Logo, etc.)

True, and you're quite right, I would have loved Dr. Demented or Future Farm! Still, random determination has shown me the way, I already have an idea and building will commence ASAP. Got to finish & photgraph a build tonight for a Flickr contest, then i'm camping again all next week! With any luck i'll at least get 3 or 4 nights on this round rather than 1 like last time!

Thanks for the good luck wishes Rori! I watched a couple episodes of the original on Hulu.com last night just to get some much needed inspiration. I was kinda hoping for a non-space category since that's what I usually build and I have a sneaking suspicion that the judges aren't going to be good to me if I just build a Viper... Chuffed to bits with "Combiner set", not in a "I'm so gonna kick Pony Lord7 to the curb" kinda way, but in a "It's an awesome category" kinda way.

Read the theme's description. It's quite detailed and your opponent isn't having any problem with it.

It's interesting how some of you got a category they EXCEL in, while some others got their very worst case scenario.
But I assure you, you will face worse and worse.
The categories are different in every round and regardless who may pass R2 or not, it will take a MULTITUDE of skills to become the M.O. Champion.

i do find that quite funny, at first i thought with my catergory i would hate it, but now wi'll builing my entry i actually quite find it not so hard, and may return and build something microscale after the games. Oh yeah Yuri thats very incouraging when you say worse and worse :p

It happened to me last year with Spastle. I had precious little castle, but I liked the stuff I came up with, and I'm still carrying it on!

Ditto. Where am I gonna get blue or shades of blue bricks for a seaside? + no bikini-clad minifigs ... *still stuck in commode without T.P.*

So you think you're in trouble, eh? my collection of tan counts five (5!) bricks. if the judges are expecting something hawaian, it's going to be nada: one palmtree. fortunately, my son came up with something that might do the trick. if you have a problem, go round it. limits trigger creativity...

I'll embrace that mantra ... 'coz what else can I hang to upon my impending doom? XD

I have scraped a few blue pieces from my kid's collection. Hope he does not notice ...

My Battlestar category is getting more and more enjoyable by the day. I've actually watched quite a few classic episodes thanks to this. I've only seen blips of the new series but think it looks not so good. Turning Starbuck into an annoying girl gets a thumbs down from me.

I believe Parrington would like some clarification as well. While the rules state that we can have one secondary color and one transparent (neon) color, it fails to say whether or not our secondary color can appear in both solid and transparent form, like the windscreens in the Blacktron 1 sets. (Sorry for being super worried about the details in this, I still haven't recovered from the endless rules in Shannon's Vig-orama contest. ;P)

For aquastlenauts, do I have to build it underwater? Do I have to have knights in it? Can I just build it on a lava planet, with shock-troopers who may or may not be genetic copies of each other? Also, can I use Playdoh to sculpt the landscape? BTW, I'm going to be posting it on my MySpace page on September 31st, so be sure to look at it there, k? kewl
