I'd had the same thought... my guess is that they're leaving it up to us to do whichever we prefer. I'll await an official answer before building too much though!

I have the "splatter and gore vig" category, and it says that it has to be an 8x8 vig. Am I allowed to build beyond that 8x8 base as much as I want, as long as the only part touching the ground is the base? I wasn't completely sure . . .

That is correct gentlemen. You can go as far as you'd like as long as the only thing touching the ground is the 8x8 base.

HOWEVER... this being a "vig" category, don't try to make an 8x8 base for a Dio to sit on...

Keep it in the spirit please. Be creative but also keep it "in category."

I'd say use your judgment on that. The judges are going to judge you based not only on your build, but how you interpreted the category. If you think something like that fits the category then go for it. It's your call, just be sure it fits. Good luck!

G'day judges! Cody and I were just hoping for clarification; the original Blacktron had a secondary trans color for lights and lasers etc. in trans red I believe. Are our guidelines strict, or is their common sense bending to them, ie. I have already built one Moc for my range, and have used one trans color for windows, and have used a second trans color for lights. I intend to keep my color scheme consistent throughout the series. Is that acceptable?

1:40 is generally accepted as minifigure scale. Therefor, anything less than 1:40 would be some sort of micro/mini/midi scale.

In my opinion, the term 3-d used here means that since Lego is a physcial medium it would automatically be 3-D when you made it... but that would be cool to have to wear the glasses to look at it wouldn't it? HAHAHA good luck!

How much will it hurt me if there are other things in the background? (Minimal other things of course, but possibly other things.)

Background clutter distracts from the build, but I think if it is clear you made an attempt, or that the MOC is so large as to prevent the minor background clutter that it will not count against you. At least with me.

A bedsheet will wrinkle every time, no matter if it's ironed or professionally steam cleaned. You're better off finding a clean smooth table top that can be set up against a clean smooth wall. White may be ideal, but really all you're going for is contrast. Background is important, but don't overlook lighting. Find some desk lamps - set one up on each side with CFL bulbs (if available) and try to get lighting from the top as well. Don't aim the lamps directly at the model--that will result in glare.

If you haven't added the link in the thread AND added the moc to the group yet, then it's not an official entry and you can change what you need to. Once you've added it to the group and posted the link, then no changes can be made.

Not sure what to say, but your competitor didn't post either, which would then make you the winner of this round. Alternately, Matt might not have bothered to post with your dropping out of the race. Lee.

I understand what you mean!
I'll write to Matt and ask him...
If he miss only the deadline and I am the "official" winner of this round, I'll meditating for searching inspiration and try my luck on the next round - Only if this is then no problem for you judges, Matt David or the rules of the Olympics!

Congratulations to Ben for his winning entry! I loved his Bionicle bird thingy and I also liked his pirate ship. So, I was wondering what I can do in the future to make my entries even better, and also what exactly put Ben's entry over the top? Could I improve on the details in my build, the Bionicle (with my limited parts), interpretation of the topic, or on my vehicles? I would greatly appreciate feedback from the judges or anyone that's seen my entry. Congrats again to Ben, and happy building!

Your Bionicle supply was not a real issue, in fact I gave you points for making do with what was obviously very little to work with. Your army was a bit too "ordered", maybe. But it's on scale you got beat. Minifig scale MOCs are often more impressive, when depicting an event. It was larger too, and built in an unique style.
I hope to see you in the Side-Gmes :)

I don't think it's fair to me and Lea that Anthony posted his on a separate account. He probably just tried to trick us into giving the wrong account to get us DQ'd.

It appears he was having a problem with his original account and Chris made him a new one:

It also appears Anthony got 2 votes while Lea got 1. I also do not see an indication you or Lea was penalized for having the "wrong" link. Hope that helps!

I don't know man, good luck trying to get that question answered before the deadline! LOL Personally I think of a 3D apple in a 3D bowl as sculpture.

My last Mosaic entry into a contest got smacked because it was 3D in a sense that I built away from the plate. By putting the stipulation that it's a "still life" is very confining as well. I 'think' it technically needs to be 2D for still life mosaic.

Long story short, Anthony's account is having... issues. This is no fault of his own (it's mocpages) and I created him a new account until the old one can be fixed. You and Lea were not penalized in any way for having a link to Anthony's other account.

There was no deception involved in any way. I know because I'M the one that did it. I created the new account for him after I went in to his old account myself and learned that it was the account and not some fault of Anthony's that was causing the problem. The votes were based on build and build alone.

Thank you.
