Quoting Tyler Halliwell .
You wrote on Ribbit's M's creation that he had no link and the link was in this thread before you commented on his creation. Unless he did something else wrong, I hope he isn't disqualified. As far as I know, he followed the rules. Correct me if I am wrong, but I just don't want to see good builders disqualified for what I see as following the rules.

Quoting from the R1 rules:

Requirements:
...
-Your entry must include a WORKING LINK to the MOC Olympics' main group, so that we know that you can make one in later rounds when the judges really need it.
...
- an entry for the Round 1 Eliminatories will be considered valid and reviewed by the judges only once a LINK to said entry is posted in the "R1 Official Entries"

As you can see, he (like others) rushed to post in the Official entries thread before checking out the Requirements list.
We have said and repeated several times to double-check before posting, and I also made that thread to give you all an additional chance to check things out before judging time (a thing that wasn't done last year).
The reason I was angry at Ribbits M is exactly what you said: he's a great builder and I hate to lose him on a technicality, but the rule stands. It's also very early in the round and there were no reasons for him to rush it.

Did my creation meet the rules

Yes. We judged it, didn't we?
As you can read in the intro, some of us Judges may be "purists" and frown at the sight of non-LEGO stuff in your MOCs, but still they're no ground for a DQ.

Well, I feel like I at least have to try:
Could we have a little bit of grace with this link thing this year? I remember the judges being a little more lenient last year in the first round.
Again, this probably won't change anything, but I can give it a shot.

A working link means the builder has included a link to the main MOCOlympics page IN THE ENTRY and this link actually works, which means that when one clicks it he or she is directed to the proper page. These links are important because the judges simply do not have the time or the patience to wade through everyone's homepages trying to find their entries.

I understand the 'find everyone's page easily' part, but why the link back to the MO home page? Is it just for convenience?

Somthing about hitting the nail on the head here...

That's EXACTLY why you have to have a working link on your entry to the groups homepage. We want to KNOW that you can make a link in the following rounds when it counts. We also want to KNOW that you can follow directions.

You guys didn't HAVE to post your entries a day after the round started. If you had read and understood the rules, you would have realized that your entry required a working link to be valid. If you didn't know how to make a link, why post it before you learned?

You could even have posted your entry on MOCpages and then ASKED others for help on how to make the link. Your entry isn't valid until you add it to the group AND (for this first round) provide the link in the proper thread. Plenty of time to fix what needs fixing.

These rules are put in place so that we know you can follow directions without someone holding your hand every step of the way. There's simply TOO many players for us to have to have to coddle everyone individually.

I'm sorry that some of you are getting DQ'd, but let this be a life lesson for you to read and understand everything before you go flying off the handle.

There is a silver lining though. Those of you that have been DQ'd can still play in Yuri's side games later. Just don't pull a "vasillios" and get yourself banned from the group.

Good luck everyone!

The directions are clear: there is a help file available to sort it out AND THAT FILE IS WRITTEN SO ANYONE CAN FOLLOW IT. If you're not smart enough to follow the directions, then don't play. Thanks, and good luck!

Making links is easy if you take the time to read. Here, watch... I'll show you. Follow these steps EXACTLY and a link will magically appear on your post.

Step one: Go to your entry with the missing link and click "edit this entry."

Step two: On the main field of the uploaded entry on the top right hand corner there is a link (in blue) that says "learn some simple HTML" Click on that.

A new window will open with instructions on how to use HTML.

Scroll down in that window until you see "Make links to other pages." There, you will see this:

<a href=URL> </a>

Step Three: Copy and paste that in to the main field of your creation where you want the link to appear.

Now, here's the "tricky" part. Delete the letters URL so you get this:
<a href=> </a>

After the = sign, you will copy and paste whatever URL you need to link to.
So when you're done, it will look like this:
<a href=http://mocpages.com/group.php/12864>; </a>

(For some reason, there's a ; in between the > and <. Ignore that... not sure why it's there but it won't edit out of the post. it should go 12864> </a>. )

Now, step four: In between these symbols > and < you will write whatever text you want to show as your link.

Now, final step. Finish editing your post as you would normally and when you are done, the link will work.

I strongly advise that you LEARN how to do this as when Yuri begins his side events, you'll need to know how to link to another page.

Good luck.

I understand the 'find everyone's page easily' part, but why the link back to the MO home page? Is it just for convenience?

No it's not. there are actually 2 reasons for it.
1- from next round, all contestants will be required to put a link in their MOCs leading to their opponent's page, or his entry, so here you need to show you CAN do it.
2- This round is not called "eliminatory" by chance. It's made to weed out all player in excess of 64.
You can see how it's better to DQ more now than in R2, where people might lose their direct opponents for a technicality like this and therefore have less fun.

As you can appreciate, this was all made to make the games more fun and challenging for those who make it to the direct matches.
If it means to lose some good builders like you so early, for how disgraceful, it's a sacrifice we are willing to make.

Don't leave though. There's still side-events and much fun to be had here!

(this said, you KNOW you're a better builder than half the judges, you can take pride on that)

And, as I'm going to repeat yet again, all you had to do was to wait until you were sure all was OK before posting it into the "official entry" thread. It was made for just that reason, so you can post your MOC, take your time, see what others builders say and fix the errors BEFORE the judges come to DQ your sorry axe.

This said, there's a little link in your "add a new creation" page, named "learn some simple HTML". just open it in a new tab, and it's all downhill from there.

Yes. particularly for these eliminatories, we are using a precise judging method.
When we visit your page, we consider Concept, Design, Technique, Emotional Impact and Presentation.

You can surely understand how even an awesome MOC can be ruined by a bad picture, or a short story with cool settings and cool figs can be spoiled by poor narration.

Even worse, when you see a wonderful MOC you can sometimes even get angry at its builder, because he posted bad pics, and you REALLY wanted to see it well!

So, basically, the judging will be on your MOC, but it will be influenced by your presentation. Just like your every day MOC pages are. Bad pics and bad grammar won't bring you "smiles".
