Thanks, Chris. I wouldn't want to spend all that time putting my creation on a background then get points taken off for it.

Whenever the maximum amount of people join. Probably before the scheduled kickoff, August 26th.

There is no such thing as a maximum amount of people, this year.
Depending on the number of contestants, we may hold an eliminatory round, free for all.

You will get your category the day your round starts. I know some of you would like to see a list like last year's, but this time each round will be a surprise.

what do you mean by eliminatory round, would that be the first round, and you rate everbodys mocs on a scale of 1 through whatever and the so many people with the lowest get booted out or different?

I call them "eliminatories" yet it's simply Round 1 in royal rumble version, before passing to Round 2 where the normal 1 vs 1 matches will resume.
Let's say for the sake of decency that the highest ranking will pass to round 2.

Pretty sure no one's asked yet, but... as an entry, can the creation be from a movie or book or something. For example, if you were in a steam punk round, could you build something from a Ghibli film?

So, is the due date still going to be Aug. 26th, or will it be later or earlier?

As of today, no changes in the time frame.
Stay tuned in case we need to host eliminatories, though.

Sorry Arthur, we missed this. We currently have no rule against you asking questions dring the games. You can ask the judges for clarification if you wish, but asking other builders what to build may tip your hand. Cheers!

It is highly recommended that, before asking questions, read the "Rules" thread, in case your query has already been answered. Case in point, the comment above mine.

K. This eliminatories, is it a big free for all build off, or do the judges just tell people they've been eliminated?

We will tell people they've passed, ad probably post a list, so you know where you stand in case of drop outs.

This seems to the hardest concept in any of these contests. You will answer this question more than any other.

I don't really have a question but a suggestive idea: It would be cool to have a little something for the losers especially from the first round....perhaps we can have a round where the losers get to vote for an upcoming category. Just give them 3 choices and bring it to a vote.

Dropouts and contestants should be excluded....general public could be included.

During the previous MocOlympics, the losers could enter something known as the "Dark MocOlympics", if they wished to. This was essentially the same as the real thing, only it was exclusive to the losers, and no prizes were handed out. Perhaps a repetition of this could be considered for this year?

Like Bones said, you can ask for clarification BUT...

There's going to be a lot of categories that are vague on purpose. The reason for this is twofold. One, to give you more freedom in creating what you want and two, because we're sadistic and want to see you squirm with tough ideas! HAHAHA

Seriously though, when we post the matchups and the categories, the category that you're assigned will either have a detailed description of what we're looking for OR... nothing, just the name.

In the event that you get a category with NO discription attached to it, you are NOT allowed to ask for clarification (well, you're "allowed" to ask... but we're not going to clarify it hehehe).

The rounds themselves will be ten days. The time in between rounds will vary depending on how quickly the judges can score all the entries and we get things ready for the next round. This will average about 3 to 4 days between rounds before the next one starts.

As of right now, the "official" start of the games is Aug 26th. HOWEVER, we may need to have an eliminatory round (Yuri's AWESOME idea). If we need the eliminatory round, that will most likely start about 12 or so days before the start date. We should know something on those within the week.

To directly answer your question, we will be posting a new thread at the begining of each round with who you're matched up against and what your category will be.

Keep an eye on the important announcement thread for other updates!

Whats the eliminatory round for?

Dennis is right, but allow me to elaborate.

Stick with me here...
Ok, so we all know that this game is a series of one on one matches so if you work your way backwards from the final match it works like this. The final match is 2 players, the round before that was 4, before that was 8 and so on right? As you keep doubling you get to 64 players, then the next available number for one on one matches (keeping it even here) is 128 players. In order for everyone to have an opponent after 128 players, our next goal would be 256 players. Although I believe we're currently over the 128 mark (I haven't counted in a couple days so I don't know right now) we're no where NEAR the 256. Ok, now that we got the numbers concept sorted out...

The eliminatories will be set up like this. We've only got 128 places for players so everyone will be divided in to groups (let's call it for arguments sake, groups of 20 or so). That group will be assigned a category to build in and will have 10 days to build (just like a regular round). HOWEVER, the difference here is, you're not competing against another player, rather being judged on a point system. After the points are tallied, the top 128 players will be put in to matches at random and the games will proceed as normal.

This is of course assuming we don't have "exactly" 128 players (in which case, we'd just GO).

Hope that made sense. If not, don't worry. It'll all become clear IF we need to go that way.

We only have 121 people so far so why even do a elmintory round if we can just stop at 128. It would save a lot of time in the game.

The trickbag that we're going to find ourselves in is if we don't get the 128 in the next couple of days, we'll have to do the eliminatory round anyway and narrow it down to the top 64 for the "games proper."

It's a numbers game here that can only work with the exact amount of people. If we get 127 or 129, we'll need to do the eliminatory round.

You'll have to keep checking the group. We'll be posting schedules of rounds as soon as they're available. My advice would be to just check everyday. You don't need to be "active" just check to see if any announcements have been made in the announcement thread OR if a new thread has been made to announce a round (where all category, match and instructions will be posted).

Your inquiry is ambiguous at best. You should not be using old MOCs or parts of old MOCs, build new, I thoght we had made this clear. If you use a design you liked from the past, fine and good, but make sure it is the design concept only.

Yes. Yuri's got some secret side project thing that he's cooking up (he still won't even give US the details on that... wait, who's in charge again?) for the players that don't advance. As long as you participate in the battle royal, you'll be in for the duration.

Wow... Dennis is going to crucify you for that run on sentence... Anyway, the signups are "technically" open until the end of the eliminatory round. Anyone can still sign up and post an entry throughout that round (that's starting tomorrow by the way). Anyone who has not submitted a post by the end of the eliminatory round will not be eligible to compete in the one on one matches.

Crucify him AND schidazzel his burger. This has probably been asked before, but how are we going to be assigned our categories? Will we receive comments or will there be a conversation thread? (Good thing Shannon isn't running this contest, I'd get at least ten lashes for making him answer any question, let alone a question someone else has most likely asked.)
