The Rules

Welcome one and all to the 2010 MocOlympics! By now, you all know how this works, but for any new players out there, here’s the basic rundown.

Step 1: Read ALL the rules! Be sure you understand what you’re signing up for before step 2.

Step 2: Sign up. Put your name AND a link to your homepage in the sign up thread. Please don’t chat or post needlessly in that thread. We want to make it easy for the judges to keep track of how many players we have. Any chatting or smacktalk can be directed to the smacktalk or gen convo threads.

Step 3: Tell your friends! We want as many players as we can get! Last year, we had somewhere in the neighborhood of 120 players and I’m hoping to blow that number out of the water this year!

Step 4: Talk smack until the games begin.

The basic game works like this. All of the players will be assigned randomly to matches where you will be pitted against another player in a category that is also chosen randomly. From the time you are given your category and match, you have 10 days to build and post your moc.

When the categories are assigned, there will be a “due date” posted with it. You MUST have your MOC posted by 11:59 PM MOCPAGES TIME which is Eastern Standard Time USA (be sure to account for time zone changes) on the due date or you WILL be disqualified and your opponent will advance.

ONLY NEW BUILDS will be allowed! NOTHING that you have built before the round starts may be used for your entry… NOTHING! The judges will then vote on who they think the better moc is (for the first few rounds, there will be 3 judges per match). The winner of each match will advance to the next round until we reach the final two players. Those two players will then battle for the title of MocOlympics Champion!

For those that didn't understand the previous paragraph let me put it another way...

NOTHING that has been built before your round begins may be used in ANY way! Yes, that means that if you have a car built from a previous moc and use it in a brand new dio, you WILL be disqualified.

Depending on how many players we get, there may be a series of qualifying matches before the “real” games begin AND there will most likely be a few “first round byes” for veteran players (those who have competed in past MocOlympics) if the need arises.

The (hopeful) start date for the games is going to be Aug 26th. I really can’t tell you when the end date is as it depends on the total number of players and how many rounds we need to accommodate them.

IF for some reason, you signed up and are NOT going to play, do not put anything in the sign up thread about dropping out. Simply DELETE your name from the list. It will be much easier for us to keep track that way.

Do not ask any questions in this thread. There is a question thread for any questions.

You will NOT be told what any of the categories are until they are assigned to you in your match. Some categories will have detailed descriptions as to what we want, and some won’t. If there’s no descriptions for your category, then it’s up to YOU to interpret what it means and do your best. This is done intentionally for some of the categories so please, if you get a category with no description, don’t ask what it means.

Rules about Photoshop and Bricklink:

In the past games, we’ve said that no photoshop or Bricklink will be allowed. For this year, if you want to take the chance of not getting your order in time to post your creation, that’s totally up to you. Buy whatever you want just be sure your entry is posted on time.

As for photoshop, it IS allowed, but sparingly. We will be judging your MOC in this contest, not your computer skills. Clean backgrounds are ALWAYS welcome but if you want to add special effects to a MOC, just realize that not only will it not give you ANY points on your presentation, but if it distracts from the build, we may even hold that against you in the judging. The option is yours but be careful how you use it.

This is not a purist contest. Brickarms and Brickforge and the like are allowed and you're free to customize your parts BUT as with photoshop, use it sparingly. If we are distracted from the MOC with an overflow of customization, it could count against you in the voting.

ALL judges decisions ARE FINAL! There will be no whinning or complaining. Once we have voted, that's it. End of story.

Now, if you don’t have any questions, get over to the sign up thread and let’s get this party started!
