Welcome to the “Spring Fling” contest!

This is a quick little “throw away” contest idea that I came up with while tossing suspects across the hood of the squad car and here’s how it works.

First, if you are a member of the Mob Rules game, THAT game comes FIRST! We’re not saying you can’t compete in both, but please, make that game your priority.

There will NOT be any prizes for this game. This is simply for bragging rights.

The object is VERY simple. Make something out of Lego that “flings” something! That’s it. And technically, it doesn’t even need to “fling” it. Anything that is built out of Lego and causes motion when “activated” is acceptable. It can be a catapult, trebuchet, crossbow (little brothers are GREAT for target practice with this one) or even something like a roller coaster or like my “waterlogged” post I did for the MocAthalon.

The deadline is June 20th (that’s Father’s day and the final day of Brickworld). Then judging will begin.

You are free to enter as often as you like, but remember, it's not the number of mocs, but the quality of your build that will be judged.

I will be looking for 4 judges to help me on this (more on that later).

Get to it MOCpages! It’s Spring so let’s FLING!

Awesome. Rubber bands, acceptable or illegal? Because that just opens up all kinds of possibilities. Great idea however, I'll try to get a creation in between contest builds.

Awesome, I should be good at this. Do I get extra points for joining first?

No. But thanks for asking.

Quoting Brendan Dore
And one question: Is it only one MOC that we have to build, or is it in rounds?

I edited the rules above. You can enter as many mocs as you want, but it's only one "round."

Quoting Sam Ellis
Awesome. Rubber bands, acceptable or illegal?

Totally acceptable! I wouldn't have it any other way!

So how do you confirm that the build actually flings an object?

Don't worry chris, I got this. He said that it didn't actually have to fling something it just has to have motion when activated, correct?

Chris, I'm confused. If your going to be at Brickworld (most likely) how are you going to judge? Also, how big dos it have to be?

The last day for entries is the last day of Brickworld. Judging will take place the week after. Also, there will be plenty of laptops floating around Brickworld I want to check in and see what's going on. And finally, I live 15 minutes from where Brickworld is held, it's not going to be a problem for me to find a computer.

Now this should be fun, I haven't built one of these in a year or so. I do think that the creation should actually fling something, though. Just moving isn't good enough.

Thanks for the invite, Chris! This should be a fun challenge. I've never built a Lego moc that shoots projectiles before (odd, isn't it?).

I went with that on the basis that someone could build something like my waterlogged moc. That one doesn't "fling" anything either, but the spirit of the contest is there.

What we're looking for here is something that when you "launch" it, makes you stare at it blankly for a second before busting out in laughter going "dude, that was awesome!"

Chris, I respectably decline the invitation to enter the contest. Since I am involved in the MOB rules, trying to get ready for BW, leaving a week early for BW, reviewing video games while trying to leave for BW, etc...I just don't have the time to put forth the effort.

I do however offer my services as a judge if you need it, as we should be home by Tuesday after BW at the latest.

Phip you really don't know how giddy you've made me feel. I've been complaining about not joining a contest for months. Its like affirmation that I have been accepted into the nerd group. For so long I've been circling the table with Pokemon cards in hand and now I've finally been asked to sit down and play. Today is a good day.

Actually I'm sort of already there because I am coming up to my first year anniversary, my 50th creation and this. I will tie them all in to it. I will post on June 4th. It's something you won't be expecting. And I also built a gun about a year ago (It was my first creation, a crossbow.)

Yeah, umm, sorry about adding that creation! I put it up before seeing the contest rules... One of my favorite builders joined, and I went and read the rules, or lack thereof. :) I thought, "Oh, just an open group. I'll add a creation." So, now it's fixed, and I apologize for adding it. I know what your doing with the group now, and I'll keep out of it.

And 5.

Now Cade... I've tried a FEW times to have a non AFOL be a judge in a contest and it pretty much always turns out... less than desirable.

Don't flake out on me on this. The entire "under 18" group of builders reputation is riding on your shoulders. If you flake out and don't live up to the expectations of this, I'm not going to let any more "kids" judge any more contests (with a few exceptions... but they already know who they are).

The pressure's on my young friend. I have faith in you. Don't blow it!

I will stand by as an alternate judge if one is needed. I will not have a lot of building time in June so I will probably not enter the contest.

sure but tell me something for anything that flings, fires, or releases, is almost always a weapon unless it is like a guy throwing a baseball and even that could be considered a weapon. so i put it to you. can you build something in this group that is not a weapon???

Good question. But Chris did mention his log ride and roller coasters. While I admit that it can be tough finding a topic that isn't a weapon, they do exist. I don't want to spit out my own ideas for fear of tainting the pool. But I assure you they do exist.

Sure, I already said you can enter as often as you like. The only thing is that one person can NOT win more than one of the top "spots," how ever many we decide to do for the winners (top 3 or top 5 and so on). It'll most likely be top 3, but it's not decided yet.

Somebody's probably going to complain, and rightly so, that since my (first?) entry was intended for the Mob Rules, it is allowable here. I'll admit, it probably shouldn't be a contender, for that very reason, if nothing else. However, enjoy the "flinginess" of it. I love the shot of the clown nose taking out the monkeys.

Don't get me wrong, the quality of the moc was very nice. I really liked the mech. Where my issue was was with the "fling" portion of the build. Again, don't get me wrong, it certainly fits the criteria for the contest, just for me... it was a flick missle. I guess for me, I'm just looking for more of a "WOW" factor in these. Either in build (like Gio's) or in the "FLING" portion.

I guess what I'm REALLY looking for here is for someone to make something that flings "something" 15 feet and uses it for target practice on the neighbors cat who keeps going on your lawn.
