Read the rules.

If you are confused, carefully read them again.

If you have read the rules and still think you have a legitimate question, ask it here.

If I deem your question illegitimate, I will heap merciless abuse upon you.

About how long will we get per round? If you are still deciding that is perfectly fine, but I'm looking for a timeframe to work with here... thanks!

What we're looking at is two weeks per round.

One week to build, then another week for judging, adding up scores, making cuts, dividing the survivors into new groups, and assigning new categories.

It's allowed, but it will be up to the other people in your group on how they want to score it. Just a word of warning, a lot of people tend to look down on it because it's not "real Lego."

i know but if there is a castle category or house i may need to use ldd due to low supply of bricks at the moment.

OK,

1. When does the contest start?

2. Let's say I join the contest, but I can't build the second week. Am I still DQ'ed?

(Totally illegitimate questions I'm sure. :) )

Thanks.

If one has a lot of fives (pretty much if sven junga joins) do all of the fives count but one?

1. When does the contest start?

We're shooting for two weeks from now, but it may be three to give people more time to sign up. We'll give you all fair warning before the exact start date.

If one has a lot of fives (pretty much if sven junga joins) do all of the fives count but one?

Basically, yes.

Well, it depends on how many "a lot" is. A score of all fives across the board will still average out to five no matter if you throw out one, or two, or none.

A score that's all fives except one would work out the same -- the non-five would get tossed as the low score, leaving the rest all fives no matter whether you tossed one or not.

Let's say the score is four 5's and two 4's -- then one of the 5's gets tossed, and one of the 4's gets tossed.

Thanks. I didn't know if there was a weird rule if one got all of the same number in scoring.

This is more of an opinionated than factual question. I would like to enter the contest, but because of time issues I don't know how much build time I'd have during it. So would it be better for me to sign up and possibly be DQ'd for not having a build, or to just stay out?
| May 1, 2010, 9:12 pm

Well, I'd stay in just to leave yourself the option, in case you can find the time to build and judge after all. If you have to take a DQ at some point down the line, so be it. At least you tried.

Once we get our teams, can we make our own groups so that we can suck up to each other?

Once we get our teams, can we make our own groups so that we can suck up to each other?

We have no control over what you do outside this group to weasel your way to the top. So technically, the answer is yes.

That said, you're not on "teams," you're in temporary groups, which will change from round to round. Any group made for the purpose you suggest would only be useful for about a week.

I'm sure you all know that sometimes MOCpages runs slow. To me it seems that especially on Mondays the site is darn near impossible to use. Now I'm not positive that a ton of these new groups forming every other week, only to be abandoned when they became useless, would add to bogging it down, but I'm sure it couldn't help. Chris, as a site moderator, may have more information in that regard and want to chime in.

Like I said, we can't stop you -- but I would ask you nicely not to.

I'g going to second Shannon on that one. While the actual "bogging down" of the system would, in the grand scheme of things, be miniscule at best, it would still effect it a little.

Even then, what Shannon said about you only being in temporary groups would be the main reason not to do this.

Again, there's no RULE against it, but I too am asking you nicely not to go that route.

You would think that by now, whenever competitions of this sort come along, it should go without saying that the entries must be built SPECIFICALLY FOR THE CONTEST. But I guess there's always a crowd that needs every little thing spelled out for them.

My aim is to devise a lot of oddball categories that will pretty much force people to build new things anyway.

I'm instituting a special rule just for you: The bourbonbrick is only allowed to build enormous dioramas that cover entire dining room tables, only use rare colors like sand purple, maersk blue, and trans-glitter pink, and every picture must have professional-grade special Photoshop effects.

Everyone else can build whatever they want.

How about you read the rules, and then come back and tell me what you think the answer to your question might be.

I admit I've been curious, but I was waiting for one of my fellow rats to take that bait - I've seen what can happen when you ask questions.

Not a bad thing to enter for the purposes of building and inspiration alone - I sometimes only seem to be building something in the vain hope of placing for contest prizes, whereas I should just be happy with what I build and the fun I had with it - that and the glory. Glory!!!

Heres a question why am I not in any group(I'm pretty certain I am not anyway).

You did not put your name in the sign up thread. You're not in the tournament. Simple as that.

This is the second question from you that convinces me you did not bother to read any of the rules. If you can't follow simple instructions, you can't play. Period.

Let's say I took pity on your poor clueless self, made a special exception just for you, and added you to a group right now. You'd be a surefire first-round disqualification anyway, because of your unwillingness or inability to follow the rules.

Oh I see.But I have another question whats the point in a sign up thread?because if i joined the group i obviously wanted to be in the contest and in the four different rules threads it never even mentions the sign up thread.

No, it is not obvious. Some people join contest groups just to keep track of the action as spectators.

Was the conversation thread entitled "Sign Up Here!" too subtle for you? I'm sure it must have been easy to miss, what with being constantly bumped up to the top from all the people (who could read) signing up to play.

I'm not sure what you want in the way of a heads up. New groups should be announced this Thursday, categories will be assigned that day or Friday (the 28th) at the latest.

Due date for 2nd round builds will be Sunday June 6th, deadline for judging will be June 9th.
