If you have a question, and it hasn't already been answered AND you've already looked through last year's awards show to see if the answer is there...

THEN feel free to ask away.

If I, or one of the mods/admins of the group doesn't answer you, it means that the answer is out there already so please go look again.

Other than that, whatcha got?

When is this years cut off for the nominations. Is there a certain month that the MOCs have to be posted for them to be nominated? An example would be something like Aug 2009 - April 2010.

Do you get a prize if you're #1? And I'll be happy if I get last!

I thought most people thought of you as number two...

Perhaps you could go back and READ how this works. THEN come back and try your question again. Although after you READ how it works, you'll realize this question isn't relevant.

Yes, there will be cut off dates. I haven't decided the "end" date yet, but the start date for nominations was the post date for the 2009 mocies preshow redcarpet that I posted... not sure what the date is off hand on that, but I'll be sure to put the exact dates in when it comes time to nominate MOCs.

There will also be a slight overlap in cut off dates from last year to make sure we don't miss any straglers that may have slipped through the cracks.

Would a builder like me, with MOCs that sometimes get bad reviews, someone who builds small things, and a strange person get an award? Maybe for BEST GRAMMAR?

Everyone who is a member of MOCpages and has posted a MOC is eligible to win. It's all about the votes.

Are there any ategories based on age? I mean we all know that the "Moccer of the year" will be won by an AFOL or some incredibly skilled TFOL, who is probably a month or two away from being an AFOL, just sayin'

That was kind of what the best new guy award was supposed to be last year, but I would like to see a best under 18 category this year. We'll see what happens... remember, this show is in YOUR hands. I just organize it and count up the votes. What goes in to it is "MOCpages" (that means you) decision.

Hi Chris, thanks to put this on, one more time :-)

I've got an "important" question : you said the best new girl/boy must have joined from May 2009 - But I know a guy who REALLY deserves to be nominated (an even win) this category, and he has posted his first MOC here, on April 17, 2009. Can we make a little exception for him ??? less than 15 days of difference is not much... Thanks for your answer :-)

Is this going to work like last lear, when we nominated different MOCs for each category, you chose five or six for each category, and then we voted on those? Or do you have a different plan in mind?

While I may agree with you that he most likely DOES deserve the nomination in this category, the question of fairness would rear it's ugly head were I to allow it.

Let's put it this way, say I move the date for him to sneak in, then the next guy comes to me and says "hey, my moc was posted 11 days before the cut off, can it be nominated?" Then the next guy says "Mine was only a month off, why can't IT be in?" and from there it's a downward slide.

Why not just nominate him for best moccer of the year? He was here the entire 12 month period after all... Just a thought.

I've been putting some thought in to that actually. I think this year "moccer of the year" will be divided into 3 subcategories. AFOL, TFOL and YFOL. I'll talk to the "staff" about it and we'll come to a decision.

It's still in the works. And technically, the MOCies haven't "happened" yet. The awards won't be announced until late June to early July. But don't worry, the next "games" will begin soon... (most likely AFTER BrickWorld)

Are you considering designing a 'virtual ribbon/trophy' that winners can add to the page of their winning MOC? I'm thinking something that could be pasted into the main picture by the winners indicating they won. Just an idea.

No, they don't HAVE to be in the group. Once the final nominations list is up, then we'll make sure that each nominee knows they are nominated via a comment on their moc or something. Being a member of this group is not a prerequisite for being nominated or winning.

There isn't really a limit on nominations. HOWEVER there will be instructions on how to nominate people when the time comes (probably next week if not sooner).

Don't go by the letter here, but we're looking for 2 or 3 nominations in each category from everyone. This is just a rough idea right now and we'll sort out the details soon.

We're going to go by the honor system for the most part here. If you posted your first day (or within a day or two) you can go by that date. If you KNOW you were here and making comments for a month or so before that, then go by that date. If it becomes an issue, we (MOCpages staff) can find out when your account was created, but we're hoping that it doesn't come down to that 'cause that means that someone is questioning someone's honesty.

If you are nominated I'd imagine you would be up for YFOL because these awards are covering activity over the year just gone, when you were 12.

It's all about the votes dude. What could be more fair than letting the public decide by casting their votes? If the winners were "chosen" then that would be a different story. It's all about the majority of the public's opinion.

The problem with at least Precipice is that it is a story that takes place in a theme of the Coalition of Planets. I understand how it could be a theme, but it is supposed to be a comic series tying in three other comic series.

I see your point. What we're looking for with "story" is something that people can read through fairly quickly (let's say... about 5 posts max) so that they can understand the story as a whole. A "theme" is something that's ongoing over many, MANY posts as well as a "bandwagon" for others to jump on. I'm not familiar with the one you're talking about personally, so just ask yourself this and you can figure out where it should go. How many posts are this story and would it be easy for someone to jump in and catch up on? If it would take someone a month to read all the "chapters" then it should go in theme. Also, if you DO decide that it is a story, please be sure to provide links to ALL the chapters of it, in order, so we can all catch up (unless of course he has it all under one folder on his homepage, then a link to the folder is fine)! Now you got me interested... Hope that helps clear it up.

While we don't have an "official" category for LDD on it's own, we can always throw them in with where they would fit were they "brickbuilt." Your bird of prey for example fits nicely in the sci-fi category.

I was thinking it was more along the lines of 'actual size' or at least bigger than minifig (miniland?). I thank you for your time.~H

You are correct Hans. That category is for things that are built to "human scale" or larger than one would "normally" build in Lego (minifig scale).

The one that would fit in that category that Shifu nominated would be Gio's moc. The other three... not so much. Great mocs to be sure, but not in that category.

Hope that helps clear it up a bit.

Mr. Phipson I've got a question for you: How long do the nominations go on, and when and how will you run the votes?

Mr. Phipson I've got a question for you: How long do the nominations go on, and when and how will you run the votes?

The nomination process is open till the end of this month (April for those of you without a calender).

Voting will take place starting early May (give us a couple days to get the "official" nomination list together after that phase closes). You'll get instructions on how to vote when we post the final list.

Once the final list is up, I'll also invite ALL the nominees to add thier nominated creations (for new guy and moccer of the year, they'll have thier choice of which moc to add). NO ONE ELSE will be allowed to add creations. I'll reiterate this again later, but any other creations other than official nominations will be deleted.

Hope that puts everything in place for ya.

Anyone else have any questions?

If two people get the same number of votes, then would they BOTH be MOCcer of the Year?

Nevertheless, they are called the MOCie Awards for a reason, and that reason is because they were posted on MOCpages. To quote the group info box:

"The annual awards show for the best of the best of MOCpages! Cast your vote and let your voice be heard!"

Luckily in past years, we haven't had that happen. If it DOES happen, the staff and I will get together and come up with a solution. If it doesn't... then no problem.

In ongoing theme, is that the same as comics? Because I would like to vote for Justin R.'s Legend of the Lionknights, but I am not sure if it fits in that category.

That's kind of tricky. It depends on how many "comics" he's posted. If it's only two or three, then you'd be better off nominating it for the story category. If it's been going on for a while and there's a LOT of "episodes," then it would fall under the theme category.

You're going to have to use your judgment on that one. Good luck. ~ Chris.

It'll pick up once the nominees are announced and we start getting votes thrown around. 9 more days to get those nominations in people!
