Welcome to what it sure to be a historic competition. With the approval of the illustrious mind behind this event, Mr. Chris Phipson, we the judges are proud to bring you the new and improved format and rules…
As stated previously, the MOCathalon will run from Saturday, February 13th until Sunday, March 14th at 11:59pm EST (right before the MotD changes).
Each team must consist of FIVE members, at least three of which must be TFOLs or YFOLs. Let us say this another way; a team can be made up of 5 TFOLs or YFOLs, but ONLY two AFOsL maximum.
There will be 30 different categories in which to build. Each TEAM will try to build in as many of the categories as they can. If, and only if, you cycle (and post) in every category, your TEAM may attempt the categories a second time (and possibly, though highly unlikely, more). THE LIST OF CATEGORIES WILL BE ANOUNCED FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 12TH (until then, speculate as you will). Important note: your team must coordinate who is building what. No duplication within a category is allowed. The teams must decide WHO is building in WHICH category. This is why team work is essential to the competition.
Teams will need to form group pages that include the five members of the team and the five judges.
All entries must be posted in the MOCathalon group AND the team group page to be judged. Each MOC entered must have the category of the build and the team name as the first line of the introduction of your post. Entries that do not meet these criterion will NOT be judged.
The judges will rate each creation on the following scale:
1 point: This is basically for just posting… now you have to put SOME effort into the MOC. “Clone on a plate” type entries will be laughed at and you will not receive any points.
2 points: Good effort put forth. You spent some “actual” time creating the MOC and it doesn’t burn our eyes to look at it.
3 points: Nicely done! Pictures in focus, attention paid to details and so on. You put a good effort into this and it shows.
4 points: Wow man, this is REALLY cool! You put a lot of work into this and we’re really impressed here!
5 points: Goldman and Kelso better watch out because YOU have arrived!
The judges will rate the creations during the competition. We will then take a few days to rate the sure to be flood of last minute entries. And finally, sometime between March 15th and 20th, we will announce the final results and champion.
Teams may not start building until February 13th. Any posts made after 11:59pm March 14th will not be judged. Creations must be made from actual Lego (no LDD). Creation are not required to be purist (brickarms may be used).
